P Bus Stop 3 HOW TO USE THE URBAN BUS SERVICE On the following page is a map of Palmerston North with the bus routes marked. All routes are complete loops. Once the bus departs the Main St Terminal (MST) it will travel in either a clockwise or anticlockwise direction until it arrives back at the Main St Terminal. Routes take approximately 35-40 minutes to complete. The colour of the route name corresponds with the route colour on the map, indicating the direction the bus will travel when departing the Main St Terminal. (For Summerhill services please see separate timetable). 01 Find your current location on the map and where you wish to go. 02 Choose the time you wish to travel and be at the stop 5 minutes prior. 03 Please signal the driver when you see your bus approaching. On the bus, place your GoCard on the reader, or pay your cash fare and tell the driver your destination. Take your ticket with you, especially if 04 you are transferring to another bus. 05 Push the bell as you approach the stop. ! PLAN AHEAD Download the GoHorizons bus app free from the Apple Store or Google Play. Enter your current location, where you would like to go and when you would like to arrive/leave and the app matches you to the right bus. 4 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What does HOME ONLY mean? The driver will not pick up passengers on the route, only dropping off. The service departs the Main St Terminal and drops passengers off at the stop nearest their destination. The bus will not return to Main Street Terminal when it finishes and the route may take longer than 40 minutes. What is an OUTER TERMINAL (OT)? The OT is a normal bus stop that is halfway along the bus route. Help I've left something on the bus, who do I call? Give the bus operator a call on 06 355 4955. Please note no responsibility will be accepted by the bus operator or Horizons Regional Council for lost property. I'm a Massey/UCOL student or staff member, how do I catch the bus for free? Make sure you have your current student/staff ID ready when you catch the bus. Your ID means you can travel for free on the Palmerston North services. Only current internal students and staff based in Palmerston North, with active smart cards, can travel for free. All other ID allows discounted travel only. I need to catch two buses to get across town, do I have to pay two fares? As long as you are catching your second bus within one hour of your original trip you simply need to have your original ticket with you and show it to the next driver. Transfers are not valid for return trips. Buses are wheelchair accessible, what does that mean? Wheelchair accessible buses are low floored, no more steps to climb up, and there is enough room for wheelchairs to fit. Please note if your wheelchair takes up a space of more than 700mm wide and 1200mm long and/or has a combined weight (passenger and chair) of more than 240kgs it cannot be carried. 5 PALMERSTON NORTH JOHN F KENNEDY DRMILSON LN GILLESPIES LN BENMORE AVE ST PETERS OT COLLEGE FAIRS RD BOTANICAL RD BOTANICAL WOOD ST TREMAINE AVE TREMAINE AVE TREMAINE AVE ST KAIMANAWA M c PARNELL HEIGHTS RANGITIKEI ST CLEAVEY DR RUAHINE ST RUAHINE VOGEL ST OT HOSPITAL LN JAMES OT BOYS HIGH FREYBERG HIGH SCHOOL SCHOOL AMBERLEY AVE AMBERLEY PEMBROKE ST OT FEATHERSTON ST FEATHERSTON ST FEATHERSTON ST ROBERTS LN RONBERG ST UCOL CHELWOOD ST RANGIORA AVE BROOKLYN HEIGHTS DR PENCARROW ST BROADWAY AVE MIHAERE DR CUBA ST PIONEER HWY ALBERT ST MAIN ST NAPIER RD CHURCH ST MAXWELLS LN MAXWELLS RUGBY ST LIMBRICK ST FERGUSON ST FERGUSON ST MANSON ST RUAHINE ST OT ALBERT ST COLLEGE ST AWATAPU FITZHERBERT AVE COLLEGE PARK RD OT GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL SLACKS RD PAHIATUA ST TO MASSEY (TURITEA CAMPUS) TO IPU 6 ROUTES GRAB-A 1 Awapuni 8 Roslyn 2 Rugby 9 Rangiora 3 Highbury 10 Brightwater GoCard! 4 Takaro 31 Fernlea 5 Cloverlea 32 Heights JOHN F KENNEDY DRMILSON LN 6 Milson Timing Points 7 Rhodes OT Outer Terminals (OT) GILLESPIES LN All routes are complete loops, once the bus departs the Main St BENMORE AVE ST PETERS COLLEGE terminal (MST), it will travel in either a clockwise or anticlockwise OT direction until it arrives back at the Main St terminal. The thesis may not be reproduced elsewhere without the permission of the Author. Te Reo o Ngā Kaumātua \ Voices of the Elders A thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Philosophy in Māori Studies at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand Brigitte Robin Te Awe Awe-Bevan Rangitāne, Ngāti Raukawa, Toa Rangatira, Ngāti Kauwhata, Te Atiawa, Muaūpoko 2013 Abstract This study explores and discusses the concept of kaumātua and their roles. Key questions are from a Māori perspective. Discussed are the concept of kaumātua, what the role of kaumatua entails, and the role’s importance to Māori society. The makeup of kaumātua is also studied to ascertain qualities, attributes, skills and mannerisms towards ‘kaumātuatanga’, that is, ‘being kaumātua’. Kaupapa Maori research and western research methodologies are used throughout this study. The findings of the study show that kaumātua are people who have been recognised by whānau, hapū and iwi for the leadership roles they undertake. They are the elders of the iwi, respected and acknowledged for their knowledge and wisdom, and are in constant demand as mentors, advisors and teachers. Kaumātua roles are many and diverse, and are underpinned in the values of tikanga Māori. Crucially, kaumātua are committed to working for their whānau, hapū and iwi. They also have strong supportive whanaungatanga relationships with other kaumātua and build and gain from each others strengths while striving towards the same goals.

The rezoning of approximately 24ha of Race Training Zone land to Residential Zone to establish the Kikiwhenua Residential Area. This area forms part of the wider Kakatangiata Growth Area (formerly City West) identified in the Palmerston North City Development Strategy (2017) as a preferred residential growth area. 2. The repurposing of District Plan Section 7A Whakarongo Residential Area to be the framework for all new greenfield areas including the proposed Kikiwhenua Residential Area. The Kikiwhenua Residential Area refers to the land bounded by Pioneer Highway, Te Wanaka Road, and the Mangaone Stream. This area is considered Stage 1 of the wider Kakatangiata Growth Area, bounded by No 1 Line, Longburn Rongotea Road/Shirriffs Road, and the Mangaone Stream. Kakatangiata is the formalised name for the previous City West Growth Area. The name Kakatangiata has been chosen by Rangitāne o Manawatū through researching old maps for the area. The name translates to “Kaka welcoming the morning”.

  • Council Meeting Held on 7/08/2017
Appendix Two Fax: 06 355 4115 File: 8933050 6 July 2017 Geography Review 2015 Statistics New Zealand PO Box 2922 WELLINGTON 6140 Email to: [email protected] Dear Sir/Madam GEOGRAPHICAL AREAS: REVIEW OF AREA UNIT NAMES Palmerston North City Council welcomes the opportunity to make a submission on the review of small-area geographies. The creation of small-area geographies, using Statistical Area 1 and Statistical Area 2 units has been very helpful for the Council, offering access to useful statistical data for small settlements within the Palmerston North territorial authority area while bringing more consistency to urban area units. Some of the existing area units now have sizeable populations due to growth at the fringe of the urban area. We therefore support a five-yearly review of area unit boundaries prior to each Census. Increased recognition of Council District Plan business zones in the City, through the creation of new area units, has been particularly useful for Council and the reporting requirements it now has to meet under the government’s National Policy Statement on Urban Development Capacity 2016. Small-area Geographies – Statistical Area 1 We support the creation of new statistical area 1 units for Longburn, Bunnythorpe and Palmerston North CBD. Small-area Geographies – Statistical Area 2 We support the creation of the new statistical area 2 units but seek the following changes to the draft area unit names: Current draft name Proposed name Reason for change Kairanga Newbury Recommended by Rangitāne o Manawatū,
