Military applications emerged fairly early in the infancy of aviation, in the form of first trials to establish the superiority of the third dimension over the battlefield. Well- known examples include the balloon reconnaissance efforts made in France even before the birth of the aircraft, and it was not long before the first generation of flimsy, underpowered aircraft were being tested in a military environment. The Italians used aircraft for reconnaissance missions at Tripoli in 1910-1912, and the Americans made their first attempts at taking air power to sea as early as 1910-1911. -

The demands on sensors, state observation, missile guidance, and simulation for air-defence is the subject of this research. Historical reviews for each topic, justification of favoured techniques and algorithms are provided, using a nomenclature developed to unify these disciplines. Sensors selected for their enduring impact on future systems are described and simulation models provided. Complex internal systems are reduced to simpler models capable of replicating dominant features, particularly those that adversely effect state observers. Of the state observer architectures considered, a distributed system comprising ground based target and own-missile tracking, data up-link, and on-board missile measurement and track fusion is the natural choice for air-defence. An IMM is used to process radar measurements, combining the estimates from filters with different target dynamics. The remote missile state observer combines up-linked target tracks and missile plots with IMU and seeker data to provide optimal guidance information. -

The includes the concept behind it, the technology used and the applications in modern warfare. While the paper will largely deal with CLOS guidance, the theory behind basic functioning of a guided weapon/missile will also be discussed. The MCLOS (Manual Command to Line of Sight), SACLOS (Semi Automatic Command to Line of Sight), and ACLOS (Automatic Command to Line of Sight) are also presented along with their applications. KEYWORDS: ACLOS, MCLOS, SACLOS I. INTRODUCTION A Guided weapon may be described briefly as a weapon system which the warhead is delivered by an unmanned guided vehicle. Guided missiles have only been in practical use since the advent of World War II. It is because the technology has enabled the invention of the final product has been around for a lot longer. From the oldest of discoveries, like that of gunpowder in the 1st millennium BC by the Chinese to the rapid advances in the field of science, they have all been required to the practical enabling of the concept of guided missile systems [1][2]. The Germans were the first to field guided weapons with the use of V1 guided bomb and the V2 rocket. -

Marines run out of ammo and told to put down arms by Commander. 1500 Argentine troops against 80 but what a fight. RAS(L) with BLUE ROVER – 158 tons 4 April South Georgia invaded marines from ENDURANCE put ashore, put up a good fight, fired anti-tank rockets at CORVETTE, seriously damaged it and brought down helicopter. We are on our way to the Ascension Islands. Big Task Force underway. RAS(L) TIDESPRING – 200 tons 5 April Britain mustering task force, Hermes and Invincible made ready, Cmdo Brigade and 1st parachute battalion embarked and with others. “Tally Ho! Here we come Argies” 6 April Fearless sails from U.K. We are moving South. Banshee Jet 80 Specifications
The current version is fitted with twin 40kg thrust gas turbine engines giving a total of 80kg of static thrust. This offers an increase in the maximum straight and level airspeed of up to 180metres/second. The use of an auxiliary fuel tank ensures that endurance is similar to that Banshee of the single engine version with a typical mixed throttle mission time in excess of 45 minutes. When fitted with the patented Hot Nose the target provides a forward and side-looking IR source with output in Bands I, II and III, whilst the Jet 80 jet engines provide a realistic rearward looking IR signature. Aerial Targets All other well proven augmentation devices traditionally available to Banshee can be fitted to this latest twin jet engine derivative. LAND ROVERS THAT FIRE MISSILES Clive Elliott describes how the humble Land Rover can have the audacity to destroy tanks and even aircraft! The Land Rover represents a very cost-effective military vehicle and its appeal lies in the ability to be modified into a wide range of roles. This can be as a delivery vehicle for troops and equipment or as a platform for installations such as radios and weapons. These installations range from the weaponry just being bolted down to a more thoughtful design for a fighting machine. In the early stages of weapon development it is more likely to take the form of an improvisation that can be used to demonstrate a weapons system. Many of the missile systems fitted to Land Rovers were really adaptations of man-portable weapons, most of what follows is about British weapons including some information that has not been published before. Although this is meant to be about Land Rovers, it is as much about the story of British guided weapons. HESH & HEAT Warheads HESH (High Explosive Squash Head) warheads work by the warhead squashing into a “cow pat” and on detonation the shock wave blows large scabs of metal from the tank itself to cause devastation within. HEAT (High Explosive Anti-Tank) warheads produce a jet of liquid copper, which burns a narrow hole through the armour to cause a pressure wave inside the tank that can kill the crew and detonate explosives. Alternative and more descriptive titles are “shaped” or “hollow charge” warheads, the hollow part refers to the conically shaped copper lined cavity in the warhead that is surrounded by the explosive. -

The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) decommissioned its fleet of six Missile Gunboats (MGBs) in a ceremony at Changi Naval Base this evening. Officiated by Chief of Navy Rear-Admiral (RADM) Chew Men Leong, the sunset ceremony marks the closure of a significant chapter in the RSN's journey and the start of a new one, as 185 squadron completes its transformation into a frigate squadron. 2. The RSN's first MGBs, RSS Sea Wolf and RSS Sea Lion, arrived in Singapore in 1972 and were commissioned in 1975. The remaining three MGBs, RSS Sea Tiger, RSS Sea Hawk and RSS Sea Scorpion, were commissioned the following year. Shortly after their arrival, RSS Sea Wolf heralded the RSN's entry into the missile age by becoming the first ship in the region to successfully fire an anti- ship missile. The MGBs also led developments in naval strike warfare and remained at the leading edge of naval warfare with upgrades in her weapon systems, shipboard sensors and other combat systems in the 1980s and 1990s. 3. For more than three decades, these pioneers of the RSN conducted numerous operations at sea, as well as maritime surveillance, patrol and escort operations. They served as dependable guardians protecting the nation against seaward threats. The Missile Gunboats have also served as ambassadors of Singapore in numerous interactions with other navies and countless port-calls abroad.
