Sep 28 2020 Luxury Boutique Hotels – a growing concept in India Luxury boutique hotels and resorts, a widely prevalent concept globally, is still at a nascent stage in India, with very few brands and properties. The increasing desire for experiential travel, by not only the millennials but across different cohorts often looking for unique and exclusive stays, has led to the growing popularity of this concept in the country. So, what are luxury boutique hotels and resorts? The term has evolved over the years, and while there is no standard definition, a luxury boutique hotel is typically a small property with less than 60 keys with its USP being the customized service and ‘elevated experience’ provided to guests. The differentiated experience is often a result of various factors such as the location, design, architecture or even the specially curated theme or events at the property that provides the guests with a unique story and memory. The luxury boutique segment is expected to become an increasingly preferred choice in the post-COVID era as people rediscover the pleasures of traveling but are still cautious with safety, cleanliness and privacy being their top priorities. These hotels are best positioned to leverage this demand by gaining guest confidence and trust due to their smaller size, with lesser number of rooms and smaller public places. • Luxury boutique resorts can help in tapping the full potential of leisure tourism in India. CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION A. The Initial Idea The tourism sector is no longer a foreign industry to the community. Tourism has become one of the largest and fastest-growing economic sectors in the world. It doesn’t only accommodate an aspect of life. Almost everything is now a part of the tourism industry, starting from providing us for our leisurely needs to creating new job opportunities. Lodging establishments, restaurants, travel agents, tour operators, airlines, car rentals, cruise lines – these all revolve around the tourism industry. Not only to the rest of the world, the tourism industry has also been playing a big part in Indonesia. Over the past decade, tourism in Indonesia has more than doubled. According to the Central Bureau of Statistics of Indonesia (2020), the arrival of foreign visitors to Indonesia kept on increasing throughout the year, with 2019 reaching the number 16.10 million. It is noted a 1.9% per cent increase than that of 2018. No one expected for this big of a turn towards the world today. Since the outbreak of the Coronavirus in the beginning of the year, the World Health Organisation has declared the situation a pandemic. The virus doesn’t only spread to a certain place or person. It has affected 218 countries and territories around the world, 2 international conveyances, and millions of lives (Worldometer, 2020). Though 2020 has taken a huge toll to the world, this will not stop the tourism industry from spreading on its wings. Countries such as China, Italy, 1 and Spain are starting to recover. -

In the early 1980’s hotels began to convert a portion of their sleeping rooms to permanently nonsmoking rooms. It is common to find entire floors of hotel sleeping rooms designated as non-smoking. Today, most hotels have a minimum of 50% of their rooms designed as non-smoking. In some markets that figure is as high as 75 to 80 percent. A few hotels have begun to experiment with entirely smoke-free guest rooms. Types of rooms A hotel’s salesman should have a complete knowledge about its products. All those involved in selling of rooms should have the required knowledge about all the rooms in the property. They will then be in a position to recommend & sell the rooms meeting the guest’s requirements. They should know the existing category of rooms, their location & facilities in such rooms. Some of the popular types of rooms found in hotels are as listed below: - 1. Single rooms: - The term refers to a room with a standard single bed to provide sleeping accommodation for one person. The furnishings & fixtures & the amenities of such rooms would be as per the policy of that hotel. The size of a single bed is 6’-3’FT. 2. Double rooms: - The term refers to rooms, which have double beds & provide sleeping comfort for two persons. -

Shangri-La Hotel, New Delhi and Leela Kempinski Mumbai. B) Classification on the basis of Star.
