EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 1.1 Introduction The proposed mining lease area for Black Granite over an extent of 5.0Hectares is located in Sy. No. 51/P of of Ummadivaram Village, Vinukonda Mandal, Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh. The lease was granted by Asst. Director of Mines & Geology, Dachepalli vide proceddings No. 3447/Q/2005 dated 02.12.2009 for 20 years for Black Granite in favour of Sri.S.Balakrishna. The Mining Scheme was approved by Deputy Director of Mines and Geology, Guntur vide letter No.2582/MS/GNT/2015, dated 01.07.2016. The salient features of the project are given Table 1.1. INTRODUCTION OF THE PROJECT/ BACKGROUND INFORMATION 2.1 Identification of Project and Project Proponent Sri S. Balakrishna is a private Lessee in granite business. The proposed Black Granite mine is located in Sy. No. 51/P of of Ummadivaram Village, Vinukonda Mandal, Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh over an area of 5.0 Hectares. The Black granite has got good demand in the domestic and international market. It is being marketed since 5years and can expect good market demand will continue for years to come with improved technology. The owner has contacted the buyers at Chennai and other important trade centers to export Black granite from this area. 1 Black Granite of Sri. S. Balakrishna Pre-Feasibility Report 2.2 Brief Information about the Project The mining lease area of 5.0 Hectares opencast manual mining is followed and it has been proposed to produce approximately 6000 Cu. m/ Annum of Black Granite. The nearest habitation, Ummadivaram is located at a distance of 0.8 km due E from lease area. 2.3 Need for the Project and Its Importance to the Country or Region The demand for granite increased due to rapid industrialization and growth in infrastructure. So the number of granite producing quarries is increasing in India. Granite is the chief material for the export industries like monuments, flooring slabs, Kitchen articles, sculptures & export. Based on the demand of Granite, the lessee intends to produce the required quantity of Black Granite for domestic market. As per EIA notification 2006 the project falls under Category- B, the proponent is submitting the proposal to get Clearance for production capacity of 6000 Cu. m/ Annum of granite blocks from SEAC, SEIAA, Andhra Pradesh for the purpose of grant of quarry lease. The demand and supply for the Black granite is growing which makes a lot of scope for revenue generation. The granite is further processed and supplied to industries after quarrying. India is amongst the leading exporter countries of stones in the world. The major importers of Indian stones are USA, China, UK, Italy, Belgium, Germany, UAE, Hong Kong, Spain, Taiwan, Netherlands, Canada, Turkey, France, Russia and CIS countries. The growth is continuing and the demand for marble, granite, sandstone and other dimensional stones and stone products is anticipated to grow at around 15% CAGR. 2.4 Employment Generation Open cast manual mining semi mechanized is going to be used except for transport. About total 12 workers are going to be engaged for at least 300 days in a year for loading Black granite in to trucks / tractors/ tippers. It will provide indirect employment to several workers in the area. The occupation of the local inhabitants in surrounding villages of the mine area is Agriculture. The mining activity in this belt will benefit the locals both directly and indirectly. The directly beneficiaries will be those who get employed in the mines as skilled and unskilled workers. The indirect beneficiaries will be those who open small business to sell goods required by the residents whose “per capita” income will be enhanced by the mining activity, and thereby their purchasing power will be increased. In the long run a lot of social goods are expected in the comparatively backward area when the inhabitants will be able to send their children to school. 3. PROJECT DESCRIPTION 3.1 Type of Project Including Interlinked and Interdependent Projects, If Any. No interlinked projects were associated with this project. 2 Black Granite of Sri. S. The lease follows open cast semi- mechanized mining. 3.4.1 Topography The area is connected by well established roads. All the administrative and infrastructure facilities are available near the villages. The quarry lease area constitutes a (hillock & boulders) The average rainfall of the area is 300 MM. Most of the land around the lease land is fertile and is useful for cultivation or some of the land away from the dyke hillock is rain fed cultivated uplands. 3.4.2 Local Geology In this area the granite is exposed with boulders of varying sizes from lease boundary. Therefore the reserves exposed to surface are considered as proved reserves; Some of the boulders are useful and would yield recoverable However in view of the inherent natural defects like, green line and black lines, joints the recovery is low to medium. The general standard of recovery the hill is considered as 5 percent and hence is considered for calculation purposes. 3.4.3 Regional Geology Stratigraphy The region comprises Dharwar Supergroup of rocks and the associated intrusive of Archiean age. As the deposit is essentially a dyke form having free boulders that are unaltered that is covered under the soil layer which can be removed by Excavator. The semi weathered rock may require mild blasting, depending on the degree of weathering. At this stage, adequate care should be taken to avoid the impact of blasting on workable / unaltered rock. The unaltered in-situ deposit is covered by sub soil, weathered hard morrum and weathered rock as indicated from the geological field study. Initial production is mainly from boulders, obtained solely shaping and sizing them. Later on as the pits are deepened the boulders eventually turn in to sheet formation where in "Open-Pit Method" Quarrying operations are 6 Black Granite of Sri. S. The following method of working is proposed. a. Over burden removal. b. Extraction of blocks from boulders c. Extraction of blocks from bed rock with advanced methods like wire sawing. d. Development of Benches and working Faces 3.5.2 Mining program for next five years Mining over the period of next five years is expected to produce about 30000m3 of market grade rough blocks with an average annual production of 6000m3. India 2Dept of Chemistry, K L University, Vaddeswaram-522 502, Guntur Dt., A.P India Abstract: The present work is a comprehensive study on the quality assessment of the ground water of 13 villages of Vinukonda Mandal, Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh in India, a fluorosis-prone area. Various physicochemical parameters such as pH, EC, TDS, TA, TH, Turbidity, Ca2+ Mg2+, Na+, K+, Cl-, , DO along with Fluoride have been assayed and the values obtained have been compared with WHO and BIS guide lines. A systematic calculation of correlation coefficient (r) and regression analysis have shown significant linear relationship among different pairs of water quality parameters. The results have indicated that the ground waters are un-suitable for drinking as they have fluoride concentration ranging from 3.28 to 4.27 mg/lit and the waters need treatment before consumption. Application of batch mode of adsorption process with activated carbons: NVNC, NSOC, NAbIC and NAcIC derived from some plant materials, on ground water samples has been found to reduce the concentrations of all physicochemical parameters to less extent and the concentration of fluoride has been reduced to permissible limits Keywords: ground water quality, physicochemical parameters, correlation, regression, activated carbons, de- fluoridation 1.
