Irrigation Profile of Guntur District 10/31/2018 District Irrigation Profiles IRRIGATION PROFILE OF GUNTUR DISTRICT *Click here for Ayacut Map INTRODUCTION The Guntur district was formed on 1st October 1904 with head quarters at Guntur.57 Mandals have come into existence with effect from 25.05.1985 in Guntur District in place of erst while taluks and Firkhas. The population of the district is 48,87,813 persons as per census 2011. The District is bounded on the North by Krishna and Nalgonda district of Telangana State, on the west by Prakasam and Mahaboobnagar districts on the South by Prakasam district and on the East by Krishna district and Bay of Bengal. It is situated between 150° -18' and 16°-50', of the Northern Latitude and 70°-10' and 80°-55', of the Eastern Longitude. The District is rich in mineral resources. The principal minerals available are lime stone, lime kankar, copper and lead. Limestone is being utilized by the Cement factories. There are copper mines at Agnigundala of Ipur Mandal. The District head quarters is connected with broad gauge railway line from Secunderabad, Guntakal, Bangalore, Visakhpatnam and Chennai. The area of the district is mainly covered under major irrigation i.e. Nagauna Sagar Jawahar Canal and Krishna Western Delta & Guntur channel and No. of other minor irrigation sources. The Average rain fall of the District is 1072.60 mm. The climate is generally warm in Summer and the heat is very severe in Rentachintala. The important rivers in the district are the Krishna, Gundlakamma, Naguleru and Chandravanka. The river Krishna travels about 250 Kms, along the border. • Geology of Eastern Ghats in Andhra Pradesh
GEOLOGY OF EASTERN GHATS IN ANDHRA PRADESH BY A. SRIRAaMADAS (Geology Departrael;t, Andhra UMversity, Waltair) Received October 2, 1967 (Communicated by Prof. C. S. Pi¢lmmuthu,t.A.sc.) ABSTRACT The lithology, structure, metamorphism and stratigraphy of the granite gneisses, charnoekite series, khondalite series and .granites occur- ring in the Eastern Ghats of Andhra Pradesh are described. The granite gneisses consist of the garnetiferous granite gneiss, the grey granite gneiss and porphyritic granite gneiss. The charnockite series consists of granite, diorite, gabbro, norite, amphibolite and pyroxenite. The khondalite series comprises gneisses, schists, quattzites, and granulites, metamorphosed from argillaceous, arenaceous and calcareous sediments. The granites include the pink granites and pegmatites. The formations are highly folded with thrusts and strike slip faults. The granite gneisses, charnockite series and khondalite series are metamorphosed to the gra. nulite facies, with a few members in the amphibolite facies and occasional members in the eclogite facies. Some granite gneisses are the oldest rocks present, and others contempolaneous with charnockite selies, which are themselves older than or contemporaneous with the khondalite series. The pink granites and pegmatites are the youngest rocks of the region. LOCATION TttE Eastern Ghats in Andhra Pradesh are situated between Latitudes 16° and 19 °, and Longitudes 80 ° and 85 ° , and stretch for about 350 miles from Srikakulam District in the north, through Visakhapatnam, Godavari and Krishna Districts, to Guntur District in the south. They include Kurupam, Madugula, Anantagiri, Gudem, Chodavaram, Papikonda, Kondapalli and Kondavidu hill ranges. GEOLOGICAL FORMATIONS Fermor ~1936) included the Eastern Ghsts in the garnetiferous type (manganese ore) marble provine belonging to the charnockite region.

  • Studies on Lead-Zinc Mineralization in Karempudi Area, Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh
STUDIES ON LEAD-ZINC MINERALIZATION IN KAREMPUDI AREA, GUNTUR DISTRICT, ANDHRA PRADESH BY K. KAMESWARA RAO AND C. MAHADEVAN, F.A.Sc. (Department cf Geology, Andhra University, Waltair) Received. July 29, 1960 ABSTRACT The geological formations near Karempudi area in Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh (Lat. 16° 20' and 16° 26'; Long. 79° 38' 40" and 79° 45') consist of slaty shales of Cumbum, Irlakonda quartzites, Kolumnala slates and shales with intercalations of siliceous dolomitic limestones and Sree- sailam quartzites of Krishna Series, forming a perfect conformable sequence, all the formations striking N.E.-S.W. and dipping on average 25° S.E. The Srisailam quartzites are overlaid unconformably by Palnad limestones (Narjis) of Jammalamadugu stage of Kurnool Series with a constant dip of 8-12° in the same direction. The Krishna Series were subjected to local but intense structural dis- turbances resulting in an overfold. Subsequent to the overfolding, lead mineralization has taken place in dolomitic limestones. The lead-zinc minerals of Karempudi consist of Galena, Sphalerite, Jamesonite, Tetra- hedrite as primary minerals, and Anglesite as secondary mineral; there is association of chalcopyrite with Sphalerite. The textures are due to replacement and unmixing (?). The paragenetic sequence of the minerals is established to be sphalerite, chalcopyrite, galena, jamesonite, tetra- hedrite and anglesite. Correlation of field to laboratory studies revealed that the minerals are of hydrothermal (hypogene) origin. The structural and lithological favourability and controlling of the mineralisation are also explained. Anglesite owes its origin to the oxidation of galena due to air-water pro- cesses. The mineralization is surmised to have taken place in Pre-Palnads and Post-Krishna times.

  • Identify the Feasible Shallow Aquifer Zones in Coastal Sands in Part of Krishna Western Delta Region of A.P
International Journal of Applied Environmental Sciences ISSN 0973-6077 Volume 11, Number 2 (2016), pp. 535-540 © Research India Publications http://www.ripublication.com Identify the Feasible Shallow Aquifer Zones in Coastal Sands in Part of Krishna Western Delta Region of A.P. R. Venkata Ramana Research scholar, Department of Geology, Acharya Nagarjuna University and Assistant Professor, Department of civil Engineering, VFSTR University, Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh, India. Abstract The management of groundwater plays a vital role even inCostal zones. Costal sands in Guntur district occupies in an area of about 400 sq.km., covering Bapatla, Karlapalem, Pittalavanipalem, Nizampatnam, Cherukupally and Repallemandals. The groundwater in these coastal sands is being utilized through shallow open wells known as Doruvus. The Water table has been influenced by canal irrigation system and Krishna western delta and Precipitation. Fresh water in the coastal sands is floating above the saline ground water which occurs in the underlying clay layers. Thickness of sand aquifer is very limited in the area and varies from 2.5 to 5.0m. Occurrence of sand aquifer is not uniform and hence these coastal sandy areas with shallow fresh water in saline ground water region need better management technologies of Skimming and recharging to maintain environmental balance and sustainable irrigation. The paper discusses the distribution of costal sands and possibilities of management technology of skimming and recharging under Prevailing hydrogeological conditions. To assess the thickness of top sandy aquifers, subsurface lithological characteristics, detailed investigations were taken up in the study area. Keywords: Groundwater, Shallow aquifer zones, Coastal sands, Krishna Western delta, Andhra Pradesh INTRODUCTION The area covered with coastal sands consisting of mandals and lies in between East longitude from 80 25’25’00 to 80 50’00’ and North latitude from15 50’50’to 16 05’00’ as shown in the map(plate-1).
