What Standing Rock Gave the World Jenni Monet, YES! Magazine Monet writes: "At the height of the movement at Standing Rock, Indigenous teens half a world away in Norway were tattooing their young bodies with an image of a black snake. Derived from Lakota prophecy, the creature had come to represent the controversial Dakota Access pipeline for the thousands of water protectors determined to try to stop it." Pesticides, guns, ocean microplastic, fossil fuel CO2 ocean acidification, overpopulation, etc. are as responsible for Elizabeth Kolbert’s sixth extinctiony event as that Chicxulub impactor. How embarrassing for the integrity of our species. We are that middle finger finger-nail scraping at the end of 4.5 billion Earth-time years. So much for Great Art. A Trump-mentality win.

I have speculated on the homonym nature of that man’s name. White supremacy greed has trumped this planet. Of course it’s only temporary, in geologic time. But this extinction event includes you-know-who.

Shoshone Language And Culture's video.

Shoshone Language And Culture January 17 · The Buffalo is a very SACRED animal to many tribes, ranging from the Rocky Mountains into the Eastern Woodlands and Beyond. The Plains Indians first ran Buffalo off of cliffs, but after acquiring the horse they became more efficient.

The Eastern Shoshone bands adopted the Plains Indian ways and became adamant Buffalo Hunters. These Shoshone bands were called "KuchunDekka" (((Buffalo Eaters))) by other Shoshone Bands and neighboring tribes.

All parts of the Buffalo were used for tools, weapoms, clothing, and shelter.

The women would create spoons and cooking utensils out of the horns and other various bones. The men could create many arrow/spear heads out of the bones. The hide around the Buffalo shoulders was the thickest, so warriors would cut a circular shale out of the hide and create War Shields.

The Buffalo is still a very Sacred Animal, and many tribes are coming together to bring the Buffalo Herds back to its Traditional Homelands.

Experiences in Russia, Montana, and at Harvard converge in freshman Dasha Bough’s creations March 26th and 27th: EPA Seeking Tribal Representatives to Provide Input on Draft Lead Strategy

From our partners at EPA Good Afternoon,

The Presidentʼs Task Force on Environmental Health Risks and Safety to Children (https://ptfceh.niehs.nih.gov/) is developing a federal strategy on lead to focus federal efforts on actions to reduce childhood blood lead levels. The Task Force would like to invite tribal representatives to share their perspectives on what they should include within the Federal Lead Strategy on Tuesday, March 27th from 12:00pm-1:30pm ET. This may be the only opportunity for tribes to provide input.

The Strategy will influence policy, decision-making, funding and technical resources of 12 federal agencies and 7 White House Offices for years to come. Proposed goals of the strategy are to: 1) Reduce sources of lead in childrenʼs environments; 2) Improve identification and monitoring of lead-exposed children; 3) Improve the health of children identified as lead-exposed; 4) Communicate effectively and consistently with stakeholders about childhood lead exposure; and 5) Research to advance our scientific understanding of the effects, evaluation, and control of lead hazards in childrenʼs environments. In preparation for the Tuesday, March 27th Meeting, the National Tribal Toxics Council is hosting a tribal ONLY discussion. Please see the details below. If you are interested in participating, please provide your contact information to Amanda Hauff at [email protected] or at 202-566-0603 to be added to the meeting invitations.

Meeting 1 – Pre-Meeting for Tribal Representatives ONLY, Hosted by the National Tribal Toxics Council (NTTC) • Date: Monday, March 26th from 12:00pm-1:30pm ET • Purpose: To provide an overview of the Task Force, Federal Lead Strategy and to brainstorm tribal input on the Strategy in preparation for Tuesdayʼs meeting. The NTTC is seeking participants with knowledge on lead exposures in Indian country. Meeting 2 – Meeting with the Presidentʼs Task Force to discuss the Strategy • Date: Tuesday, March 27th from 12:00pm-1:30pm ET • Purpose: For tribal representatives to provide input on the Strategy to the Task Force. For additional background information, please see the attached PowerPoint slides.
