• Northside Kan Nu Løfte Sløret for Yderligere Fire Navne På Årets Program. Navnene Tæller En Enkelt Live-Veteran Og Tre Nyer

  • 25Th Super Bock Super Rock 18 – 19 – 20 JULY Meco Beach, Sesimbra – South of Lisbon, Portugal
25th Super Bock Super Rock 18 – 19 – 20 JULY Meco Beach, Sesimbra – South of Lisbon, Portugal New line-up announcement: Calexico and Iron & Wine 19 July, EDP Stage 18-19-20 July Herdade do Cabeço da Flauta, Meco - Sesimbra The countdown for the 25th edition of Super Bock Super Rock has officially started and we have a new name on the line-up: Calexico and Iron & Wire are back together for the first time in 14 years and their reunion will happen in Portugal, on July 19, on the EDP Stage. They will play songs from “In the Reins”, released in 2005 and some new songs that were born from this collaboration and of course, some of Calexico and Iron & Wine’s repertoire. CALEXICO AND IRON & WINE Sam Beam is better known by his stage and recording name, Iron & Wine. His intimate indie has conquered the most sensitive souls with his introspective lyrics and his shaky voice giving body to that atmosphere. His first album, “The Creek Drank the Cradle”, released in 2002, quickly became a lo-fi classic. Sam Beam’s music is influenced and has been compared to artists such as Nick Drake, Simon & Garfunkel, Elliott Smith or Neil Young but no one questions his original South Carolina signature. On the other side, Calexico are named after a city on the border between Mexico and California and somehow that makes perfect sense when we listen to Joey Burns and John Convertino’s music. Influenced by some westerns’ soundtracks, Mariachi music and even jazz, Calexico’s proposal is unique, without an equivalent in the American rock scene.

  • What It Takes to Be a Successful Concert Artist: Conversations with World Renowned Musicians by Rebecca Jackson
What it Takes to be a Successful Concert Artist: Conversations with World Renowned Musicians By Rebecca Jackson Introduction How does one become a successful concert artist? During my twenty one years of studying and performing as a violinist I continue to witness many like myself spend tireless hours trying to master the great works. Besides the obvious requirement of work on your craft I have always been curious of other factors present in the journey musicians take to establish their success. Why become a classical musician in the first place? Odds don't seem to be stacked in our favor. At first glance, what you see on stage may seem glamorous. Hundreds of people flock to watch and listen to beautiful music performed effortlessly. Paganini, Liszt, Heifetz, and Horowitz are some of the legendary performers that come to mind. Despite the initial attraction, the life of a musician is strewn with difficulties and unpredictabilities. Leila Josefowicz said, “The lifestyle of this whole business is awful. I'll not mince words about that.”1 The unattractive aspects I have observed create a substantial list: (1) It is a life led in solitude within the four walls of a practice room. While I was studying at Juilliard the average daily practice session was between five and eight hours. And this is a ritual that begins very early in life. (2) Musicians spend equal if not more time studying than doctors and yet “starving artist” depicts the characteristically little money we earn. (3) One endures constant scrutiny. Even the note-perfect Heifetz made Dallas front-page news, “HEIFETZ FORGETS,” when music came to a stop during the Sibelius Violin Concerto.2 (4) Perfectionism is a common trait making it rare to feel completely satisfied with one's performance.

The Squirrel Bait and Rodan genealogies continued to dominate Kentucky's and Chicago's post-rock scene during the 1990s. Half of Rodan, i.e. Tara Jane O'Neil (now on vocals and guitar) and Kevin Coultas, formed Sonora Pine with keyboardist and guitarist Sean Meadows, violinist Samara Lubelski and pianist Rachel Grimes. Their debut album, Sonora Pine (1996), basically applied Rodan's aesthetics to the format of the folk lullaby. Another member of Rodan, guitarist Jeff Mueller, formed June Of 44 (11), a sort of supergroup comprising Sonora Pine's guitarist Sean Meadows, Codeine's drummer and keyboardist Doug Scharin, and bassist and trumpet player Fred Erskine. Engine Takes To The Water (1995) signaled the evolution of "slo-core" towards a coldly neurotic form, which achieved a hypnotic and catatonic tone, besides a classic austerity, on the mini-album Tropics And Meridians (1996). Sustained by abrasive and inconclusive guitar doodling, mutant rhythm and off-key counterpoint of violin and trumpet, Four Great Points (1998) metabolized dub, raga, jazz, pop in a theater of calculated gestures.
