After developing all those necessary skills from Phil (Kev's father), Colin then went on further to become an accomplished Carpenter, gaining vital experience working with and alongside a wide range of prestigious companies in and around the New Forest area. In 2006, he left the UK and set himself up as a Project Manager and Site Foreman, running the works department of a major construction company in Perth, Western Australia. He returned to the UK in 2014, where he has been busy renovating homes, adding extensions and generally creating the living space that people are craving right now. Kevin's respect locally as a true artisan craftsman is no secret within the industry, with his company offering opportunities with in-house training schemes and a managed team of top craftsmen. KDCarpentry has provided carpentry and carpenters locally for the last 20 years or so within the Lymington and New Forest area. His design and eye for detail is all about creating beautiful spaces. After all these years of friendship and the professional respect they share for each others building knowledge, they now know its time to provide a new partnership here in the New Forest, offering their expertise, craftsmanship, eye for detail and design back into the buildings where they live. Apple Court is found halfway up Hordle Lane and has been open under new management since last summer. We enjoyed showing people around the lovely White Garden and Rose Walk and loved the tranquil Japanese Garden and relaxing Summer House. Tea and homemade cakes are always available, as well as a lovely selection of plants in the nursery. We are always happy to chat to visitors about the plants in the garden and are on hand to advise which plants are suitable for your own garden. We are blessed in Hordle with a relatively mild climate and protection from the coastal winds. If your garden is quite sheltered, like ours, then you might want to consider a few, more tropical, specimens that those ‘up North’ can not plant. I would recommend gingerlilies (hedechyium), canna lilies and devils tobacco plant (lobelia tupa) to add a wow factor in the summer. Palms and tree ferns add a tropical feel year round, and there are the exotic looking daylilies (hemerocalis), which come in so many colours and will grow in any location in your garden. We have all these in the garden, where tropical sits alongside traditional, cottage garden planting. We also welcome suggestions and advice from all the experienced gardeners out there! There are many trees, shrubs and flowers from around the world packed into 1 acre; if you want some inspiration for your own garden then we are always happy to help. Apple Court Garden and Nursery.
