19 HISTORY

¥ 1980 – 1995: The original New Music Seminar was a catalyst for change and helped introduce hip-hop, new wave, house and many other new forms of music. NMS helped break out the likes of Kid Creole & the Coconuts, Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince, Living Color, Boy George, They Might Be Giants, GWAR, The B-52s, The Cure, Nirvana, and Madonna ¥ During its 15-year run, the first NMS became the world’s biggest and most influential music business gathering attracting over 8,000 people from 35 countries. It spawned almost every music conference worldwide, including SXSW, Canadian Music Week, The Winter Music Conference, and many others ¥ In 2009, NMS was revived as a traveling conference stopping in LA and and is now home in NYC. In that time it has become the ultimate destination where artists, industry players and companies are provided the knowledge, tools and connections they need to succeed and build the New Music Business
