PRESIDENT’S REPORT

It is with great pleasure that I present my fifth President’s Report. The 2012/13 season saw the Association take the next steps to ensure the longevity of the game of cricket in the St George area. Thanks to everyone who helped make the season a success, with the introduction of a T30 program for senior players who have trouble with availability on a weekly basis due to family and work commitments in particular. In the lower 10 and 12 Grades we changed rules to allow for more equitable participation. This is an area where in the past teams had one or two players who dominated. By ensuring equitable participation, we are allowing all players the chance to perform. For cricket to survive some traditions do have to make way for modern day thinking and these measures are the first of many for the association. I know that next season further refinements are planned for all competitions. On a sad note, the start of the season saw the passing of long term Patron and former Georges River Penshurst President Fred McKinnon. Fred had been a member of the association since the 50’s as a player before moving onto the Presidency, a position where he contributed with passion to establishing a strong Association. As a player, he was a strong keeper and batsman who enjoyed local success with his Penshurst Club. He also played in the first winning Martin Shield team for Georges River Penshurst. He had been a Patron for 20 seasons and was about to start his 21st with his untimely death. The Association Executive took sometime before appointing two new Patrons. We welcome former President Kevin Greene and long term Life Member John Yates to the role. January saw the passing of former Umpire and Junior Committee member, Neville Ebsworth. Neville simply oozed cricket, taking on responsibilities of helping his sons as they played juniors for St Joseph’s Riverwood and De La Salle Kingsgrove, even taking on the role of secretary of both clubs. He was a member of the Junior committee before he took up umpiring, first with the Association and then moving through the Grade ranks to First Grade. His best umpiring experience was no-balling Geoff Lawson 5 times in an ! Our sympathies are extended to both families on their loss in the season and to all other families who had a loved one pass away. For this season completed, I would like to acknowledge the contributions of Secretary, Janelle Carew, and Treasurer, Rick Francis. These two committee members have worked tirelessly for the Association and without their support, the Association would not be in the great shape it is today. I would like to thank the other Executive Committee members for their support and tireless work throughout the season. First, Junior Competition Secretary, Danny Williams and Ron Ryan as Senior Competition Secretary who both kept a good watch over the progress of the Competitions. Matt Boland as Junior Registrar and Senior Registrar Ken Tildsley supported both competitions with their expertise. Assistant Secretary, Peter Smith, Vice President Graeme Fleming, Mick Able, and Michael Venn, my thanks as well for your contributions to the Association. Thanks to Rick Francis, Rep Team Coordinator, for organising the Representative Teams for the season. Our Representative program started in August with the Junior Development squads. These squads, thanks to the support of St George DCC and Kingsgrove Sports Academy, have been vital in preparing our elite cricketers for the rigours of the Representative Program. On the field, we were not successful in winning any competitions but was pleasing to note that the Watson Shield team competed in the playoffs. This was the first time this team has competed in this level since the Foster Shield so well done. At the other end of the scale, it was also pleasing to see that that our tradition of having competitive teams in the Foster Shield continued with this team also making the playoffs. Well done to the Cawsey Shield team who also made the playoffs, just falling short to eventual premiers Sutherland in the semi-final. This was this teams first ever loss in a play off series after 6 previous games. Congratulations must go to Colin D’arcy who achieved the NSWDCA Weblin Shield Player of the Year Award and the Weblin Shield Award. I would like to express my thanks to the coaches and managers of all our Representative Teams but even bigger thanks to the players and families for representing the Association in such an outstanding manner. The Martin Shield team, although losing three close games, were outstanding representatives of the association. We do look forward to next year where the Committee has decided to put more effort in the senior representative competitions. The Association thanks go to the NSWDCA for providing opportunity for all the representative competitions, especially to the Executive Officer Eric Myatt for his outstanding organisation. Locally, all competitions were close. In the juniors, with Blast and increased flexible arrangements in how some of the lower junior grades were organised, offered some exciting chases for semi final spots. I must give my personal congratulations to winners of our Benchmark Competitions: Penshurst West for winning the 16A Premiership and Illawarra Catholic Club for securing the First Grade trophy for the ninth time in eleven seasons. More thanks must go Tom Davies, who in his role of Publicity Officer, ensured that the web page was kept up to date in terms of the points score and publicity results. This season, both Tom and myself, continued to work hard on the website and we must thank all the clubs who took on the challenge of putting the results on the website every week. This year we established a Facebook page to help disseminate information and we are looking at establishing a Twitter account for the upcoming season. While we were unsuccessful at a representative level this season, this could not be the case of our cricket partners, St George DCC. The Club managed three flags, including the Club Championship, 1st Grade and 4th Grade, while runners up in 5th Grade. What is pleasing is the large number of local juniors who contributed to all these successes. This was also seen with the Green Shield team where every player was a local junior from our Association. This team made the playoffs for the second year in a row. We offer our congratulations to Executive Officer, Jon Jobson and President, Kevin Greene, for their continued support and interest. Thanks must also go to the Umpires League and their executive. While our umpire numbers on a weekly basis are not strong, the support provided to us during the representative season is outstanding. I thank President Roger Spindler, Secretary Roger Ridway, Appointments Officer Ron Ryan and Delegate Graeme Fleming for their work. Again this season, we partnered with the Sydney 6’ers in BBL2. With former juniors Moises Henriques and Kurtis Patterson in their team, it was a good fit for us. While they won the World Championship it wasn’t a good local season for the team in “Mengenta”. Thanks go to their administration for their support, which included a little monetary value and tickets to home games. Finally, the Association thanks our sponsors: Kingsgrove Sports Store, A.G. Thompson’s (Kookaburra), Club Rivers, The Maso’s Club, Club Central, Oatley Hotel, Punchbowl Bus Company, Veolia Transport, Bresnahan’s Butchers and the St George Bank. Without their support we would not be able to provide a representative program that is of no cost to the participants as well as manageable registration, playing and administration costs. Please support our sponsors as much as they support us. Of course, the three major sponsors of the Association are the councils: Hurstville City Council, Kogarah City Council and Rockdale City Council. Without their support in providing the grounds and maintenance, we would not be able to run the many opportunities for cricket that we provide. We thank the Mayors and Officers of the councils for their continued support. The 2013/14 season will see a continuation of change and direction for the Association as we look to build and strengthen cricket in the St George area. See you all there. Jeff Evans PRESIDENT SECRETARY’S REPORT

As I write this, my last report, I look back on my time as Association Secretary with good memories, from allowing helicopters to land at Gannons Park to allow an elderly neighbour to celebrate a special birthday present from his family to attending what I hope will be the first of a regular “road show” by touching base with the grass roots of the game. This season has been no different with the successful T30 competition on Sundays, the joint 1st and 2nd grade in the senior competition to provide a variety of game play because of the low numbers of graded teams and a highly competitive junior competition. As has been my experience over the past few years the committee has worked hard at ensuring all competitions have run smoothly and fairly and over the past few weeks the current outgoing committee have been working hard on competition rule changes. I’d like to thank the committee of the 2012/2013 season Jeff Evans, Graeme Fleming, Rick Francis, Peter Smith, Tom Davies, Ron Ryan, Ken Tildsley, Danny Williams, Michael Venn and Mick Abel. Over my time I have worked closely with our Councils, Hurstville (Christine Irwin), Kogarah (Judith Howes) and Rockdale (Hayley Suwistra). These ladies have always appreciated the information about damage or use issues provided by you to me and then passed on to them. As they have said to me, Council does have eyes out there, being Council Rangers, but they can’t be at every ground every minute of the day. Your continued reporting to me of damages to the pitches, damage to run ups, issues with drainage or toilet facilities helps the Association work closely with our Councils. All Councils have continued to tell me over the years that they love it when Summer season starts as we provide information on Council grounds to Council rather than complaining. I wish the incoming Secretary the best of luck, I will be happy to answer any questions that arise as did my predecessors, Richard Cheney and Mark Keene who were a great help to me when I started out. I wish the incoming Committee the best of luck. The rule changes that have been worked on will ensure a greater competition for our Association. Finally, I wish all our players, Coaches, Managers, Scorers, and Clubs the best of luck for the upcoming season. Janelle Carew Association Secretary

Membership at 23 members remained stable. This number includes 2 active Life Members and 20 Members who are joint members of our League and NSWCU&SA. The number of members available to actively officiate each week averaged 4-6, generally permitting coverage of one grade each round, with each grade receiving official umpires at least 3 times, in some cases 4 times, throughout the competition rounds. We were also able to ensure that all NSWDCA Inter-Association matches were provided with an official umpire. This was achieved with the assistance of NSWCU&SA members Daniel Brightwell and Steve Starks who were able to re-schedule their work commitments to help us out. I sincerely thank my fellow committee members and officers for their efforts throughout the season, as well as those members who regularly attended our monthly General Meetings. This trophy is awarded on a 3-2-1 points basis by the officiating umpire in 1st Grade games. To all teams and players in our district, thanks for the respect and sportsmanship that was shown to officiating umpires and your opposition teams throughout the season. On behalf of myself and all our Members, I thank Roger Ridgway our Secretary and Ron Ryan our Appointments Officer for their great work throughout the season. We look forward to continuing our good relationship with the Executive Committee of GRSGDCA and to another successful season again next year. Roger Spindler President

VALE

FRED McKINNON

It is with great sadness that the start of the season saw the passing of our Patron, Mr Fred McKinnon.

Fred had a long history with the Association: first as a player, then an administrator. Fred played most of his cricket with The Penshurst Cricket Club in the Georges River Penshurst Competition in the 50’s through to the 70’s. He was the of the first ever side from Georges River Penshurst to win the Martin Shield in 1968/69. Fred was a well-accomplished batsman and keeper throughout his time as a park cricketer.

When Fred stopped playing, he turned to administration becoming president of the Georges River Penshurst Association in 1969/70 and served in that position until 1986/87. He had a great wit and many of us remember the way he controlled meetings with good speed and authority, though this was more to allow him time to play the pokies with his friend Ron Gee.

He was duly appointed Patron in 1987/88 until his passing this season. It has been in recent years that Fred’s health has deteriorated but he still managed to attend a couple of our presentations and AGM’s.

As a mark of respect, all teams observed a minutes silence prior to the commencement of all games on Saturday, 1 September 2012.

He will be missed dearly.

KEITH COMPTON SPIRIT OF CRICKET MEDAL

In 2010, the Management Committee agreed to institute a ‘Spirit of Cricket’ award to commemorate the many years of service given by the late Keith Compton as an administrator and Patron of our Association. It was the express wish of the Compton family that the award be known as the “Keith Compton Spirit of Cricket” Award. After discussions with Life Members and fellow club administrators who had known and worked with Keith over many years, to determine an appropriate recipient and applicable criteria for such an award, the unanimous conclusion was that: (1) players are already more than adequately catered for with various individual performance and team awards and that the addition of another player award would not lend the “Keith Compton Spirit of Cricket” award the prestige that it deserves; (2) the Spirit of Cricket represents an overall belief based on a number of traditional values associated with the game, and is not just performance related; and (3) the award should recognize the efforts of a volunteer club coach or manager who is primarily responsible for fostering the values associated with the Spirit of the Game each Saturday morning with the young players under their control. Volunteer coaches are the lifeblood of junior cricket and their efforts, essentially, go unrecognized. The Award: To be eligible for the award the following criteria must be met:  The nominee must be a volunteer coach, manager or official involved with Junior cricket.  Years of service may be considered appropriate.  The nominee has demonstrated appropriate codes of behaviour on the field and encouraged their players to do the same.  The nominee has displayed control and shown respect for other coaches and players.  The nominee operates within the rules and Spirit of the game and teaches their players to do the same.  The nominee avoids overplaying talented or favourite players and ensures that all players receive equal opportunity to bat, bowl and field.  The nominee is considered by their opposition equivalents to be a worthy recipient of the award.

SOUTH HURSTVILLE RSL CARSS PARK FOURTH GRADE PREMIERSHIP 2012/2013

T/30 COMPETITION

SOUTH HURSTVILLE RSL CARSS PARK T/30 PREMIERSHIP 2012/2013 COMPETITION RESULTS UNDER 16A GRADE 6 teams participated in the 16A competition this season. Penshurst West and South Hurstville Carss Park were 14A finalists and appeared to be the main contenders for the Premiership. Ramsgate RSL was a very competitive team although somewhat hampered by player availability. Kingsgrove CC had picked up players from St George Leagues and Beverly Hills, and had a very strong bowling attack. ICC was made up of mainly first year players and will be a strong team next season. Lugarno Sports made up the 6th team after assistance from Mortdale Hts. Lugarno struggled but was competitive. In the Qualifying semi-final Penshurst West easily accounted for SHCP. In the Elimination semi-final Kingsgrove’s bowling attack restricted Ramsgate to a moderate total which was chased down for the loss of only 4 wickets. SHCP scored a very defendable 150 on a very slow Olds Park 1. Kingsgrove’s scoring was restricted by tight bowling in the first 30 overs and never really threatened to overtake SHCP. The Final saw a repeat of the 14A Final. Aggressive batting resulted Penshurst West scoring an imposing 220 on a somewhat faster Olds Park 1. On this occasion SHCP found the task too difficult and fell some 70 runs short. This reversed the result from the corresponding match 2 seasons before. Competition points to the end of Round 10 were:

Penshurst West (Minor Premiers) 56 South Hurstville RSL Carss Park 36 Ramsgate RSL 32 (Q 1.1363) Kingsgrove CC 32 (Q 0.7532) ICC 26 Lugarno Sports 16

UNDER 16B GRADE Beverly Hills Eagles provided 2 teams for the 16B competition, finishing at opposite ends of the table. Kingsgrove, Penshurst West, Ramsgate RSL and Illawarra Catholic Club made up the 6, with Kingsgrove and Penshurst West presenting the greatest threat to Minor Premiers Beverly Hills (Blue). A high scoring Qualifying semi-final saw BHE (blue) defeat Kingsgrove CC to go through to the Final. The elimination semi-final was a more lop-sided affair as the points table suggested, with Penshurst West easily defeating Ramsgate RSL. The Preliminary Final was a very close match with only 7 runs separating the 2 teams. Penshurst West was victorious and went on to the Final. The strong batting of the Beverly Hills (blue) allowed them to post a total that proved just beyond Penshurst West. They proved to be worthy premiers. Competition points to the end of Round 10 were:

UNDER 14B GRADE Four teams competed in the 14B competition. Despite Kingsgrove (Green’s) early dominance, there were several close results, including a dramatic tied result between Kingsgrove (Green) and Penshurst West in round 4, and Ramsgate managing to reverse an earlier loss to the Greens in round 6. Disappointingly, poor weather intervened in several games which had a marked effect on results and the final table. With only four teams in competition, no semi-finals or preliminary finals were played. In the Grand Final, Kingsgrove (Green) defeated the Ramsgate RSL Youth team to take out the premiership. KINGSGROVE CC (Green) U14B PREMIERSHIP 2012/2013

UNDER 14C GRADE Six teams competed in 14C competition. Two teams from the same club, Mortdale Heights (Blue and White), lead from the start and battled it out for minor premiership. Additional interest in the competition structure came from South Hurstville RSL – Ramsgate RSL Youth fielding a combined team while Kingsgrove fielded a combined team after St George Leagues merged into that club. Mortdale Heights (Blue) went through the preliminary competition undefeated, but a strong performance from the Mortdale Heights (Whites) in the major semi-final reversed two earlier season losses. After winning against the South Hurstville/Ramsgate side, the Mortdale Heights (Blues) again met with the (Whites) to decide the title. The (Whites) however proved that the semi-final result was no fluke as they again won through to win the Premiership. Despite the dominance of two teams, there were some closely fought games and the competition was played with great spirits and a high level of sportsmanship. Congratulations to all players and coaches. Competition points at the end of Round 10 were: Mortdale Heights (Blue) 61 Mortdale Heights (White) 54 South Hurstville RSL Carss Park / Ramsgate RSL Youth 31 Beverly Hills Eagles 31 Kingsgrove 22 Illawarra Catholic Club 11

UNDER 10A GRADE Following the regrading of Illawarra Catholic Club team to 10Bs after round 3, there remained three teams in the 10A competition – Kingsgrove, Penshurst West and South Hurstville RSL – Carss Park. Despite this small number of participants, the competition was of high interest throughout, with no team being able to dominate and several close results being recorded. With insufficient numbers to allow for semi-finals, the eventual 10A premier was decided after the two top teams, South Hurstville RSL – Carss Park and Penshurst West played off in the Grand Final. SOUTH HURSTVILLE RSL CARSS PARK U10A PREMIERSHIP 2012/2013

COMPETITION RESULTS

UNDER 10B GRADE At start of competition rounds, four teams competed in the U10B Grade. From Round 7 however, Illawarra (later Illawarra – Green), Kingsgrove, Penshurst West and Ramsgate were joined by a second Illawarra team (Gold) following a regrade of the U10A competition. The 14 round competition provided many close finishes – including a rare tie between Kingsgrove and Ramsgate in round 3 and it was well into the season before the final table started to show some clarity. Ramsgate ran out “minor” premiers and went on the face Kingsgrove in the first semi-final. The two Illawarra Catholic teams fought out the second. Following its win, Ramsgate advanced to the Grand Final, while Kingsgrove played Illawarra Catholic (Gold) in the Preliminary Final. Victory in this game had the Kingsgrove and Ramsgate teams again facing off in the Grand Final with Kingsgrove reversing the previous result to take out the premiership. Competition points at the end of Round 14 were: Ramsgate RSL Youth 61 Kingsgrove CC 51 Illawarra Catholic Club (Gold) 39 Illawarra Catholic Club (Green) 30 Penshurst West 18 SEMI-FINALS

KINGSGROVE CRICKET CLUB U10B PREMIERSHIP 2012/2013

CLUB REPORTS

BEVERLY HILLS EAGLES CRICKET & SPORTS CLUB INC. After being out of the Secretary’s job for some 20 odd years, what better way to re-start a “new career” than having another premiership in our possession. Of our 7 sides in competitive grades, with the Under 8’s playing non-competition , it was wonderful to see 6 of those make the semi-finals, with the Under 16B Blue taking out the premiership. Whilst they did not make the semi-finals, the Under 16 B White are to be congratulated on the way they went about their cricket this season. Being the scorer for this team, I was able to observe first hand how much they enjoyed their game each week. They may have only won one game, but they received many accolades from opposition coaches and supporters on the way they played the game and enjoyed their cricket. This was most important to the Club’s image and all players, parents and coaches are to be congratulated. They were great ambassadors for the Club. Now to the rest of our wonderful teams and players. Both Under 12’s progressed to the preliminary finals of their grades, going down narrowly to their opponents, who ultimately went on to win their respective grades. Certainly no disgrace in going down to the eventual premiers. Under14’s performed creditably in their semi-final but unfortunately did not score enough runs. All three teams showed great spirit and sportsmanship throughout the season. Fourth Grade made the semi-finals but were beaten on the day by a better team. Third grade won their semi-final by one wicket but lost the preliminary final by one run on the very last ball of the match. A great year anyway. Though small in numbers, our Under 8’s also had a great season, with their fair share of wins. With no individual scores kept for this grade, I am sure that there were many memorable performances. Hopefully they will return next season more experienced and ready to give other teams some “hurry- up”. Unfortunately, we did not have an Under 10’s team this year, but steps are being taken to overcome this gap in our Club. I would like to thank the managers of the various teams, Craig Bashall (Under 8’s) Daniel and Matthew Abel (Under 12C’s), Gerry Daher (Under 12B’s), Kevin Hicks and Noel Gwynne (Under 14C’s), and Gary Crowder and Debbie Nader (Under 16B White). Also congratulations to all the club’s trophy winners this season Keeping the good wine until last, special thanks to Ernie DeSisto and Terry Abel who guided the 16B Blue to a premiership in the final against Penshurst West. It was pleasing to be there when the opposition coach addressed all our team in front of their parents and supporters and congratulated them on their success and the way they played the game. A great compliment to them and all of the Club. This team has lost only one game during the past two seasons. What a fantastic record for them and the Club! Also, there is only one member of this team who will have to progress to the senior Competition next season, but hopefully will be re-united with them in 2014-15 when the team progresses to the Senior Competition Finally a special thanks to all the parents, carers, grand-parents, supporters, scorers and “snack providers” who turned up every week to support the team and the Club. Without your support, help and input a greater burden would be placed on the Management Committee. Thank you to all parents and carers for getting your children to each match and training and being there to support them throughout the season. Looking forward to seeing you all again in 2013-14. Ron Ryan Hon. Secretary

DE LA SALLE KINGSGROVE CRICKET CLUB In 2012/13 DLSKCC experienced growth in terms of player participation, registrations, sponsorships and connections with the community. The cricket club managed to field four sides {1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Grades} in the senior competition and one side in the o/35 social competition.

All grades benefited from an intake of talent from new players and this resulted in some great team performances across the grades. The top 2 sides enjoyed some fierce internal competition in a combined 1st/2nd Grade competition. Sharing the points during the season, both teams went on to CLUB REPORTS represent the club in the Grand Finals. 3rd Grade were seen to be a very strong group in their come from behind finish to take out ICC and claim the first premiership for the club in some years. 4th Grade experienced a high player turnover, but a core group of players provided some strong performances throughout the year.

The 2012/13 season marked some significant losses for the DLSKCC community. Leila Lyle, Brian McNamara, Peter Pezzutti, Neville Ebsworth, Gerard Williams and Keith Reginald Coyle sadly passed away in the course of the season. All individuals part of the DLSKCC community respect these individuals’ contributions and we thank them as parents, players and supporters of the club.

The DLSKCC playing contingent would like to especially thank the support received from our sponsors that enable our continued participation in this great game of cricket: Kingsgrove RSL Club Ltd., Great Lakes, Maxwell Foods, Better Health Tai Chi Chuan, McMahon Building Services, Glide Cleaning Services and Transport Freight Solutions.

ILLAWARRA CATHOLIC CLUB The 2012/13 season represented our Club’s 45th year in the Junior Competition and our 40th year in the Senior competition and saw us field a total of 9 Junior teams and 6 Senior teams, providing cricket for in excess of 180 Junior and Senior players. In the Senior Competition, 1st Grade won the premiership for the fifth year running. This is the Club’s 15th First Grade Premiership. This is quite an achievement! In the Junior competition, our Club provided the opportunity for many players to enjoy cricket in some wonderful teams. Our Club takes great pride in the overall improvement in skill of all teams and fully recognise the time and effort put in by their respective coaches throughout the season that was necessary to achieve this. We are always pleased with the way in which players at ICC receive a fair go, regardless of ability, and hope that this adds to the enjoyment of all players. To train all our teams and put them onto the field each Saturday requires a lot of effort from many people. To all of our coaches, captains, managers and parents who volunteered to assist in so many ways throughout the season, the Club is sincerely grateful. It is only because of the strong support we receive from so many volunteer parents that Illawarra Catholic Club cricket remains strong. A pleasing aspect is that each year our performances have been achieved by a different group of players and reinforces our belief that the Illawarra Catholic Club is a special place to play cricket. Our club has a proud tradition of providing the opportunity to play in both Junior and Senior grades for players of all ability levels. Congratulations to the following ICC players who represented Georges River St George at various representative levels this season: Creak Shield: Cawsey Shield: Gee Shield Weblin Shield: Watson Shield: Joshua Vella Michael Kennedy Joshua O’Shannessy Karvan Silva Brent Atherton Michael Keiran Wyld Karahalias Lachlan Forrest Finally, I would like to acknowledge and thank the Board of the Illawarra Catholic Club through Club Central, Hurstville for their continued generous financial support of our club. This sponsorship enables us to not only provide our players with quality playing equipment but also keep our fees to an affordable level, particularly for families, that provide many of the youth of our community with the opportunity to play cricket.

CLUB REPORTS

KINGSGROVE CRICKET CLUB Our 34th senior and 19th junior season saw continued growth and success on and off the field. We welcomed many players from St George Leagues Club who helped form or 3rd grade, 16A and 14C teams. Our junior numbers stayed above 200, forming 20 junior teams, including 4 non competition teams. We had 5 junior minor premierships and 10 teams in the Semis. In seniors we had 3 teams with 4th grade making the Final. We also fielded an over 35s team. Congratulations to our 4 premiership winning teams - 14B Green, 12A, 12B Blue and 10B, and the over 30 players selected for various representative honours. A real highlight was the success of the club’s Multicultural Winter IN2CRICKET program. More than 200 children between the ages of 5 and 12 registered and participated in the skills sessions conducted at Bland Oval Riverwood, Smith Park Kingsgrove and Hurstville Primary School. We look forward to doing it again during the off season. We are indebted to our sponsors whose support has been crucial in placing the club in a strong financial position with which to fund our development programs and continue our general activities of providing cricketers with the opportunity to play and learn about cricket. KCC thanks Daltone House (Sylvania Waters), Hotel Macau Hurstville, Kingsgrove RSL, Club Rivers, David Chambers Chartered Accountant, Mullane's Pharmacy Oatley West, People Practices Australia, Payce Communities, Sunny Harbour Seafood Restaurant Hurstville, Transfield Services and our new sponsors Bankwest, Canterbury Leagues Club, Guardian Funerals, Lantern Club and Ramsay Health Care. I would like to acknowledge the outstanding effort of the captains, coaches, managers and scorers in organising their sides. Without their contribution we could not field our teams. Thanks to the parents who do the transport of the players each week and provide other support to the teams and club. And thanks to the Association, Jeff Evans and his enthusiastic committee, for their continued promotion and management of cricket in our area. Everyone appreciates your level of commitment. Best wishes from KCC.

LUGARNO SPORTS CRICKET CLUB The previous season LSCC became a one team Club. Pre-season it appeared that we might not have enough players to form a team and LSCC would no longer exist. Matt Boland from Mortdale Heights came to our rescue and encouraged 2 of his players from the 16Bs to play with us. Evan Young and Chris Spanos proved to be excellent additions to our team and fitted in very well. We were also fortunate to have two players join us from the Sutherland Shire Competition. Tom Makowiak and Jacob Williams proved themselves to be A grade cricketers, with Jacob going on to Representative honours. We were also lucky to have Robert Henby join the team. Robert had never played competitive cricket before. He showed great enthusiasm and was an inspiration to his teammates. We were happy to have a team and play cricket. We also expected the season to be difficult and this proved to be the case, winning just the one match. However we were always competitive and went close to defeating both the finalists. Several players achieved Representative honours. Saahil Parekh, Matthew Lecce, Jacob Williams and Peter Francis were selected in the Weblin Shield. James Paitos was a shadow player for this team. Peter and Saahil were also selected in the St George DCA Green Shield team, which made the quarterfinals. Throughout the season there were some excellent individual performances: Lionel Lui – 308 runs @ 28 Matthew Lecce – 231 runs at 38.50 CLUB REPORTS

Peter Francis – 522 runs @ 74.57. Peter also won the 16A batting aggregate. Our President Rick Francis continued his work with the Association as the Treasurer and took on an additional role as Representative Team coordinator. We are hopeful that LSCC can provide a team for the 16A competition for season 2013/14. Some of our players have been together since the U8s and it would be fitting if they can finish their junior cricket with Lugarno. LSCC would like to thank the Association for their hard work without which cricket would not be possible. Ian Faulkner Secretary LSCC

MORTDALE HEIGHTS CRICKET CLUB A big year for a small club. While our sole senior team in second grade only won one game in the mixed first/second grades, our juniors did us proud with the three sides all qualifying for grand finals in their grades and two going on to win. Like most clubs in Senior grade our biggest problem was having players available each weekend to play, necessitating us to register just one team despite having 22 players on our roster. The Association’s innovative idea of having a mixed round of preliminary games was much appreciated, but proved our downfall as we suffered against some much stronger teams – although it was ironic that the one game we did win was against the eventual First Grade premiers – ICC. Our Juniors’ was a different story. Numbers were boosted this year with an influx of players from St Joseph’s Riverwood which enabled us to field two teams in Under 14C competition. Both teams played great cricket to finish one-two on the ladder. The ‘Blues’ went through undefeated in preliminary rounds; the ‘Whites’ lost just two games (each to their fellow club team). Semi-final time and the Whites reversed earlier season results to defeat the Blues, and proved this was no upset by repeating the win in the Grand Final two weeks later. The Club’s 12C team provided the upset result though. Consisting mainly of boys under 10 years of age, pre-season thoughts were that to win two games through the season would be a great result. However, the side gelled well, played well, and went on to defeat the previously undefeated minor premiers Kingsgrove Cricket Club in a dramatic final in which Kingsgrove almost snatched victory with a nail-biting last wicket stand. An excellent year for the Mortdale Heights Club and one that would not have been achieved without the dedicated efforts of the team coaches and managers to whom the Club, teams, and parents are indebted. Of course in these difficult financial times, our Club would struggle to survive without the help of its key sponsors. Particularly the St George Masos Club and our Junior Cricketer of the Year sponsor Neil Thompson Smash Repairs. Matt Boland, President/Secretary, MHCC

PENSHURST WEST CRICKET CLUB INC Penshurst West Cricket Club's numbers were down a little in the 2012/13 season, however, we did field 12 junior teams from Under 8's through to 16's, 2 senior teams and 2 teams in the new T30 competition. Penshurst West was well represented in the finals series with five teams making the semi finals and three teams, 16A, 16B and 10A playing in the grand final. Congratulations to our 16A team and their coaches Steve Gray and Wayne Foster on being undefeated Premiers this season. Well done also to CLUB REPORTS the 16B's and 10A's who finished runners-up. For all of our 16's who are finishing this season, it was a pleasing way to go out. Penshurst West were again great supporters of the McGrath Foundations Pink Stumps Day. Our 16A’s proudly used the pink stumps and keeping pads and swapped their maroon caps for hot pink ones. Some of our junior teams sported pink zinc and celebrated the day with fantastic morning teas. Our efforts were hampered this year by the wet weather, however we did still manage to raise $500. Our congratulations go to the following players on being selected in representative teams: Under 10 Foster Shield Jack Gibson Under 11 Creak Shield Matthew Messner Under 13 Gee Shield Cooper Cheney, James Muggeridge, Michael West Under 14 Moore Shield Jason Quach, Michael Watson Under 15 Weblin Shield Mitchell Gray, Ben Pullen Under 16 Watson Shield Lachlan Cheney, Ryan Rawlings, Dhanesh Wadhwana Special mention must also be made of Mariam Bank (12A) who was selected in the NSWPSSA Girls Cricket team. She successfully competed in the School Sport Australia Championships in the Barossa Valley in December last year, where NSW were named national champions. Thanks to all the coaches, managers, scorers and supporters who give up their time each week so that their kids could play cricket. We appreciate everything you do to contribute to our great club. To the Association Committee, thank you for organising another successful cricket season. Congratulations to all other clubs, premiership teams and award winners. Leanne Gray Honorary Secretary

RAMSGATE RSL YCC Ramsgate RSL Cricket Club again fielded a large number of teams this season. All our junior teams made the finals and our 14A team were crowned premiers. Thanks to all the coaches, managers and scorers for giving up their time for training and match day duties. I would like to acknowledge the importance of the generous financial assistance provided by Ramsgate RSL, which enables us not only provide our players with gear, but also keep our fees to a reasonable level and provide many of the youth our community to play cricket.

SOUTH HURSTVILLE RSL CARSS PARK ROYALS SENIORS Season 2012-13 proved to be the most successful season in a long time for “Southpark” winning both 2nd and 4th grades and also the limited T30 competitions. It was definitely the best “club” effort as players from both grades mixed well with plenty of 4th graders needing to back up week after week in 2nd grade. CLUB REPORTS

2nd grade stars were our gun fast bowler Liam Baillie with 27 wickets @ 10.1 including 10 in a match, Daniel O’Keeffe 173 runs @ 28.80 and 12 wickets @ 14.90, batting guru Bradley Parkes 242 runs @ 34.57 4th graders who impressed with some standout performances included David Sutton (491 runs at 61.38 including a score of 132 no) Thomas Chapman (409 runs at 40.9 with a score of 160no) and Patrick Berrigan (402 runs at 44.67 In the bowling department the key players were Thomas Chapman (30wickets at 13.53 – 3 x 5wicket innings and 1x10wicket match) and Declan Walpole 22 wickets at 10.14, 2 x 5wicket innings). A number of wickets were also taken by Nick Moore (20), David Collins (18) and Matt Penglase (16). CS WATSON SHIELD REPORT (Under 16)

Squad: Brent Atherton, Justin Barrett, Luke Bartier (c), Lachlan Cheney, Daniel Crowder, Rob Liley, Rhys McWhinney, Ryan Rawlings, Daniel Sciacca, Jake Talevski, Dhanesh Wadhwana, Eldrin Zhou A very enjoyable year for the boys in their final season of junior reps. Perhaps less enjoyable for the parents. Watching this squad was like seeing Neil Diamond at the Greek Theatre on a hot August night – we experienced the whole range of human emotions. First up, melancholia: two dismal defeats in games 1 and 2. Next, the joy of sport: three cracking wins, including a run at an outright win in the last game in an effort to snare a spot in the finals, only to come up just short, and miss a final 6 spot. A deflated squad headed to St George Rowers after game 5, to reflect on what might have been. Then, the Monday morning news from the Association: “Don’t leave town, you might sneak into the Finals.” Then, elation: sneak in we did, in controversial circumstances, when it emerged that higher finishing teams had fielded ineligible players and had their ‘finalist’ status revoked. Faster than you can say “Stephen Bradbury”, we were told that we were one of the few who had not broken the eligibility rules, and were now proud finalists. Deservedly so, said we. Sadly, we met a strong Camden side in the qualifying final and fell 50 runs short chasing their 258 score. Some really strong performances throughout the year:  Daniel Sciacca 6 – 14 off 12 overs v North Shore, figures not seen since Gus Gilmour skittled the Poms at Headingley in the 1975 World Cup semi  Brent Atherton a great unbeaten 111 against Central Coast, average 48 with the bat and 18.9 with the ball  Luke Bartier 76 v Fairfield Liverpool and 55 v Camden in game 1, a tournament average 34.3 with the bat and 19.55 with the ball  Rob Liley facing the new ball, peeled off 46, 31 and 55 in the first 3 games (preceded by a 50 in the trial)  Rhys McWhinney 48 in the final REPRESENTATIVE TEAM REPORTS

 Daniel Crowder in his first season of reps, bowled with great vigour and little luck throughout, but jagged 3-34 to rout a strong Fairfield team, and took the one handed catch of the season off Central Coast’s superstar, running backwards towards the long on boundary - panache is everything  Jake Talevski, like a garaged Ferrari, unable to bowl because of rotator cuff problems, nevertheless fielded like a demon, the best boundary rider since Thisara Perera (Google it) - saved runs every innings  Justin Barrett blazed a great 21 not out in fading light to steer us home, with Brent, against Central Coast, and followed it with 26 in the final  Eldrin Zhou bowled with heat every spell, removed at least one top order bat in most games and belted 16 not out in the final  Ryan Rawlings hit a gutsy 37 v Fairfield when we needed someone to step up, and 28 in the final  Dhanesh Wadhwana bowled long, controlled spells of miserly offspin in most games – sadly, Dhanesh was unfit for the final  Lachlan Cheney helped his dad tie the BBQ onto the ute for the trip to Penrith – terrific rope work, son. MATCH SCORES Game 1 v Camden at Cahill Park 21 Oct 2012 All out 195 (Bartier 55, Liley 46, Atherton 39) lost to Camden 239 Game 2 v Penrith at Rance Oval 28 Oct 2012 All out 135 (Liley 31) lost to Penrith 248 Game 3 v Central Coast at Olds #2 4 Nov 2012 5 – 215 (Liley 55, Atherton 111*) beat Central Coast 214 (Atherton 3 – 64) Game 4 v Fairfield Liverpool at Don Dawson Reserve 11 Nov 2012 All out 194 (Bartier 76, Atherton 39, Rawlings 37) beat Fairfield 151 (Atherton 3-27, Crowder 3 – 34) Game 5 v North Shore at Cahill Park 18 Nov 2012 7 - 129 (Bartier 43, Atherton 30) beat Nth Shore 76 (Sciacca 6-14) and 2-71 Qualifying Final v Camden at Raby #3 1 Dec 2012 All out 208 (McWhinney 48*, Cheney 33) lost to Camden 258 (Bartier 3-59). All up, a terrific final year in reps. Many thanks to:  Ryan’s dad Chris, for doing most of the scoring all tournament. The scorebook is a masterpiece.  Eldrin’s mum Fe, for organising catering, ably assisted by Chandresh (“Get in Line”) Wadhwana.  Mitch Gray from the Weblin Shield team, for filling in for an injured Dhanesh in the Final.  Luke’s mum Julia, for co-ordinating all off field events and keeping Supercoach Bartier calm when lesser men would have folded like a cheap suit. Big thanks too to Ken Liley and Sam Sciacca who shared the coaching and management of the rep squad from Foster Shield days all the way through reps, and who continued to be a great help in the final season.

EG WEBLIN SHIELD REPORT (Under 15)

After several selection trials the following players were chosen to represent the Association in the Weblin Shield competition for season 2012: Mitchell Gray (Captain) Karvan Silva Ben Pullen Kieran Wyld Blake Kenworthy Matthew Lecce REPRESENTATIVE TEAM REPORTS

Colin D’Arcy Peter Francis Jackson Shaw Peter Mamatsis Jacob Williams Saahil Parekh There were 2 changes to the strong Moore Shield side from 2011 - Jacob Williams who joined us from Sutherland and a well deserved return to the team for Kieran Wyld. The October school holidays again saw the boys head up to Cessnock to play against a Central North Invitational team which included six Under 16 players. Unfortunately we were put in to bat on a rather underdone wicket and managed to score 56 runs after having been 5-5 in the 7th over. In the field we took 5 wickets but our opposition scored the required runs in fairly quick time, however the real value was the experience of playing on turf under difficult conditions Our trial form was variable as we defeated Moore Shield Joint Premiers Sutherland and were soundly beaten by Bankstown. Our draw was not an easy one with away games against Central Coast and ACT (for the second year running), so we could not afford to take any of the opposition teams for granted. Round 1 vs North Shore at Beauchamp Oval – 21/10/12 Georges River-St George 8-245 S Parekh 52no, C D’Arcy 47, M Gray 37, B Kenworthy 35 Defeated on the 1st innings North Shore 7-244 C D’Arcy 3-40, B Pullen 2-52 It wasn’t an ideal start to the season when we arrived at the ground to find not only that that the sprinklers had been left on overnight, but that Saahil had injured his back and would be unable to bowl. Play got underway at 10.40am and, within 40 minutes, we were another bowler down with an injury to Jacob as the North Shore batsmen settled in on a wicket with few terrors. Colin was introduced and had immediate success, removing both openers before the strong opposition batting lineup first steadied and then went on the attack. They scored freely until Colin (courtesy of an excellent outfield catch from Karvan) and Ben took 3 wickets in quick succession and managed to slow the scoring during the middle overs. Unfortunately we then missed a chance or two and they got away from us late in the innings as they took 43 runs from the final 6 overs to reach a total of 244 from the maximum of 55 overs bowled. Mitch and Colin got away to a bright start with a partnership of 79 before we lost 3-11 to find ourselves in a spot of bother. A patient innings from Jackson and a brisk 35 from Blake started to turn the game back in our favour, but the real game changer was the elevation of the injured Saahil to 6. He was obviously hampered by his injury but he took the attack to the North Shore bowlers and, while they managed to pick up wickets at the other end, they had no answer to Saahil’s clean striking. When we lost our eighth wicket on 203 in the 47th over it looked as though we would struggle to reach our target…but then Karvan strode to the crease. He and Saahil batted magnificently and the momentum of the game changed completely as they plundered the attack at a run a ball. Karvan hit the winning runs with 10 balls to spare and we knew we had got out of jail, particularly as North Shore had conceded 10 penalty runs with the ball twice striking the keeper’s helmet which he had left on the ground behind him! Round 2 vs Newcastle at Cahill Park – 28/10/12 Georges River St George 8-211 C D’Arcy 101, P Mamatsis 28, P Francis 20 Defeated on the 1st innings Newcastle 9-205 C D’Arcy 5-33 Grant Degouviea replaced Jacob who succumbed to a side strain and Saahil was still recovering from his back injury so we were again unable to field the team originally selected. Mitch won the toss and had no hesitation in batting. We lost a wicket early but then Colin and Peter F shared an 83 run partnership and this was followed by a 68 run stand between Colin and Peter M. Colin was in sparking form and he brought up his century in the 52nd over. Unfortunately, there was another disturbing mid order collapse where we went from a healthy 3-187 to a quotient-destroying 8-197 in four overs. Given the position we had been in at the 53rd over, a total of 8-211 was disappointing. Following the pleasant surprise of his game one performance with the ball, Colin opened the bowling with Grant, but a healthy opening stand of 69 kept Newcastle in the hunt. We then lost the very unlucky Peter Mamatsis in a bizarre fielding mishap when a booming cover drive took a bad bounce and crashed into his cheekbone. The first wicket fell when their opener was neatly by Blake off Karvan, but wasn’t until the 34th over that their second wicket fell with the other opener well caught by Grant off the first ball in Colin’s second spell. Momentum shifted in his next over when he took wickets off consecutive balls to leave the visitors at 4-114, but the task of scoring 98 runs in 24 overs was not beyond them. They continued to score at the required rate before two run outs in two overs by Karvan stalled their innings, and they were further REPRESENTATIVE TEAM REPORTS hampered in the 53rd over with Colin finding himself on a hatrick for the 2nd time in the match. With 51 runs needed in just six overs and with nine wickets down, the boys probably thought they had the game in the bag, and this mindset was nearly our undoing as the Newcastle tail took to our attack. They eventually ran out of overs and finished just six runs short of the required total. Another very tight finish but we were two from two and looking forward to an easier 3rd round clash against Central Coast. Round 3 vs Central Coast at Duffy’s Reserve – 4/11/12 Georges River-St George 166 P Francis 31, M Lecce 28, J Shaw 20, B Pullen 20no Lost on the 1st innings to Central Coast 8-170 G Degouveia 3-45, M Gray 2-21 We travelled up to the Central Coast to face a team who had lost their first two games and were probably not unreasonably considered to be underdogs. We won the toss and batted and were looking to put a big score on the board on what looked to be a quick outfield. Unfortunately the persistent Central Coast attack never really let us into the game and wickets fell at regular intervals. Peter F and Jackson put together a handy partnership of 49 for the 3rd wicket and Matt (who batted beautifully) and Ben contributed 41 for the 8th wicket, but it was in the end a pretty average effort at the crease and we were disappointingly all out in the 54th over for a below par 166. Needing less than 3 runs per over, Central Coast were in the box seat, but they were made to work hard for their runs as they too struggled to build partnerships. Grant struck in his first over and again in his fifth, and Mitch and Colin also chimed in with timely wickets after periods of very tight bowling. Central Coast battled through the middle overs as all of our bowlers proved difficult to get away. At one stage we bowled 11 overs for as many runs and it appeared as though we might be able to manufacture another unlikely win but their lower order got them across the line in the 59th over. Our inability to bat for 60 overs in this game would certainly come back to haunt us later in the season. Round 4 vs Fairfield Liverpool at Cahill Park – 11/11/12 Georges River St George Georges7-205 River-StC GeorgeD’Arcy 110, S Parekh 35, M Gray 30 Lost on the 1st innings to Fairfield Liverpool 3-207 S Parekh 1-29 We were back at home for the important clash with Fairfield Liverpool who had just one win from the first three rounds. They won the toss and asked us to bat and we started solidly, going at around 3 runs / over until Mitch was dismissed with the score at 71. Colin was looking very good, but we again lost wickets at the other end until he and Saahil shared an excellent 79 run 5th wicket partnership. Once more we struggled at the death as we lost 3 wickets in the final over to finish on a defendable 205. Saahil and Jacob were very difficult to get away early and the Fairfield batsmen found themselves behind the required run rate, particularly after losing both openers inside 15 overs for only 21 runs. Saahil and Colin took the wickets but the opposition batsmen put their heads down and, despite a great run out by Kieran and the fact that they needed to score at nearly 7 runs per over, they did it easily in the end and won with 2 overs to spare. We had no answer to their No. 4 batsman who scored a wonderful 124 n.o., and our comprehensive loss meant that all five teams in our division were on 12 points going into the last round - and we were placed third. Round 5 vs ACT at Radford College – 18/11/12 Georges River St George 6-184 C D’Arcy 80, J Shaw 31 no, M Gray 23 Defeated on the 1st innings ACT 6-180 C D’Arcy 3-38 As our quotient was considerably lower than several other teams in our division, the prospect of us making the semis would hinge upon either inclement weather in Sydney or a massive win over the previously undefeated ACT. Although neither was looking particularly likely, we were intent on putting in a big performance in the final round and were hoping that other results might enable us to squeeze through. We arrived at Radford College to find a seemingly under-prepared pitch which was green and unusually soft, so we were keen to bowl after Mitch won his fourth toss for the season. Accurate bowling from Saahil and Jacob saw the home team on 1-13 off 10 overs with Jacob snaring a handy caught & bowled and Saahil bowling 5 consecutive maidens. Mitch and Colin maintained this pressure, and by the 24th over the ACT had slumped to 4-35 as Colin once again tore through the top order. Their opener and No 6 then steadied the innings and took the score to 141 before Blake and Peter M combined to run out the opener for 96 when a century was beckoning. Peter M, Mitch and Saahil then closed out the innings with some very clever bowling to a strong batting lineup who had wickets in hand. Peter Mamatsis was particularly unlucky and deserved better than his 0-30 off 12. REPRESENTATIVE TEAM REPORTS

The ACT attack featured the number 2 & 3 ranked bowlers in the competition plus an opening pair reputed to be the fastest. Colin and Mitch however had no problems and comfortably put 50 on the scoreboard by the 15th over. Unfortunately, we then lost our by now customary 3-10 while Colin watched from the other end. When Peter M was run out in the 31st over we were 4-92 and looking for someone to stick with Colin who was once again in great form. Saahil came to the crease and they added a vital 50 runs in 10 overs to put us back on top before Colin was out LBW for 80. The game could easily have swung back in ACT’s favour but firstly Saahil and Jackson and then Jackson and Matt batted magnificently to get us home with 5 overs to spare. Jackson’s innings was one of great maturity and it combined resolute defence with some very clean hitting to take the game away from the eventual Weblin Shield runners-up. We finished the regular season on 17 points but missed out on the finals on quotient. Summary In this age group we have always had the luxury of having more than 25 boys turn up for trials and we had hopes of fielding a President’s Cup team (as we did last year). Unfortunately with a turnout of only 18 this was not to be. This was a difficult year where our boys, for the most part, would agree that they would like to have performed more consistently than they did. Playing on turf was obviously an adjustment and I think that by season’s end everyone had learned something about their game which they can put into play next year. Our struggle to win games was probably reflected fairly accurately in our statistics where only 4 batsmen averaged more than 20. Fortunately, Weblin Shield Player of the Year Colin D’Arcy had a stunning season and he won games for us with both the bat and ball. He was the competition’s leading run scorer (355) and wicket taker (13). Even though Colin’s efforts were a standout, everyone in the team had the opportunity to contribute during the season, and given the closeness of most of our games, these contributions obviously kept us in the hunt right to the death. Looking back on the season, it is obvious where we could have done better. In years past, we tended not to have to bat any further than 6 or 7 and, combined with our ability to take wickets, this resulted in quite a few wins and a strong quotient. This year we struggled to bowl teams out and we lost cheap wickets in almost every game. These elements combined not only to lose us 2 games, but to slash our quotient. I think the Weblin Shield season can be a challenge for many cricketers, and it can also present some unique coaching challenges. Our Coach Steve Gray has looked after his fair share of representative teams over the years and his knowledge and experience was again invaluable to the team. The boys are encouraged to think for themselves, and sometimes mistakes are made, but this environment enables them to actually learn about the game. I’m hoping the lessons can continue in 2013. Each year I thank all the families of the boys for their support as it is incredibly important. Since Foster Shield we have been blessed with the most wonderful group of parents and grandparents and the brothers and sisters, and we know what a big deal it is to lose your Sundays for 9 weeks. Fortunately, our families seem not to see rep cricket as a waste of Sundays and for that we are most grateful! Rick Francis again took on the sometimes onerous task of scoring, so a huge thank you to him and to Dawson and Tony who shared the job in Canberra. Rick’s efforts in the Round 1 win (with 4 balls to spare) at Beauchamp Oval where he shared scoring duties with a variety of North Shore parents, children and small animals was something to behold. He gained a few grey hairs and an ulcer or two, but the books balanced! One area where our performance has been consistently outstanding for a number of years is the catering department. The standard of our afternoon teas was again spectacular, so many thanks to all the parents for their unwavering support and to Lisa for undertaking the very large job of co-ordinating the entire effort. There were many good things to be taken out of this season and I hope all of our boys are keen to saddle up again next year to successfully complete their junior representative careers in Watson Shield. HAROLD MOORE SHIELD REPORT (under 14)

After two selection trials the following players were chosen by coach Andrew Pye to represent the Association in the Harold Moore Shield competition for 2012: REPRESENTATIVE TEAM REPORTS

Selected players - Ben Montedoro (c), Adrian Bosanac, Arnav Bhardwaj, Cameron Chalker*, Benjamin Ferreira, Sebastian Ferreira, Costan Griziotis, Ryan Puckett, Jason Quach, Mitchell Talevski, Michael Watson, Liam Wilson * - Replaced Tyler Frazer-Rigg in selected squad due to injury There were 6 new faces in the squad this season and 1 returning face, along with 5 backing up from last season, so it was a big ask for the boys to gel and be ready to face a higher standard of cricket than they were used to at short notice. Our first trial game was an enjoyable road trip to Cessnock to play on a turf pitch that turned out to be a bit of a minefield and saw both teams rolled cheaply but a narrow win to us. We followed that up with traditional tough practice games against Sutherland (very tough) and Bankstown (very close). It was a tough season for the boys. They didn’t win a game during the series and were consistently unable to score enough runs to trouble opposition bowling attacks. Our bowling was steady most of the time, and very threatening some of the time, but missed a few chances that robbed us of the opportunity to get into the lower order. Our front line spinners were consistently bowling to the top order, rather than being able to build pressure after early wickets. Our fielding was good but catches were dropped that should have been taken and hurt us quite a bit at times. Off the field the boys seemed to mix well, especially considering the number of new faces in the team. As a new manager I was impressed by the attitude of the boys, even when they were losing, and I think their parents can be proud of their maturity and courtesy. The new players all had their moments and will hopefully be stronger for the experience. Game 1 v Camden at Olds 1. 21 October 2012 Georges River St George 131 (50) Arnav Bhardwaj 47, Ben Montedoro 23 def by Camden 4/135 (40) Mitchell Talevski 10/2/1/20, Michael Watson 9/1/1/23 Our season started with a home game against Camden. We lost the toss and were sent in. We lost two early wickets after a bright start from Costan, and while Arnav and Ben were able to steady the ship with a good long partnership, the scoring rate never reached the heights we had hoped for. While we managed to bat out our 50 overs, 131 seemed to be 20-30 runs short and so it was to prove. Arnav went on to reach 47 before he was run out in the last over trying to push the run rate along. Our bowling was steady, but only Mitchell and Michael were able to keep Camden scoring below the required rate. Ultimately we did not have enough runs to defend and Camden were able to reach their target with plenty of overs to spare. Game 2 v ACT at Radford College, Belconnen. 28 October 2012 Georges River St George 96 (33.3) Ben Montedoro 21, Cameron Chalker 19 def by ACT 5/270(50) Mitchell Talevski 7/1/2/34, Benjamin Ferreira 8/0/2/39 This was the one game where we were completely outplayed from beginning to end in all facets of the game. In other matches we had periods of parity and competitiveness with our opposition, but not during this one. There were no real highlights to discuss other than the beauty of the venue we played at and the fun evening some of us had the night before the match over dinner. Mitchell bowled well and took 2 good outfield catches too. Game 3 v Northern Districts 1 at Olds 1. 4 November 2012 Georges River St George 75 (38.5) Ben Montedoro 44 def by Northern District 1 6/224 (50) Michael Watson 9/1/3/33, Benjamin Ferreira 5/0/2/26 Three early wickets and we were looking quite good with Northern District at 1/13 after 10 and 3/53 after 20. Our bowling innings in this match was undone by simple missed chances against 2 batsmen, who both scored 80, when they were on low scores. Both should have been out for less than 20 and it looked as though what was to come after them was not as strong. Good bowling by Benjamin and Michael, in particular, held the scoring rate back but the pressure was released in the second half of the innings. Three late wickets showed what might have been. Jason also bowled a fine opening spell. Our batting was poor again, other than a defiant 44 from Ben, but it must be said that the bowling we faced from Northern District 1 was the strongest in the rep season by a considerable margin. REPRESENTATIVE TEAM REPORTS

Game 4 v Northern Districts 2 at Olds 1. 11 November 2012 Georges River St George 9/134 (50) Benjamin Ferreira 23, Jason Quach 18 def by Northern District 2 3/138 (47) Arnav Bhardwaj 10/0/1/27, Jason Quach 5/0/1/14 Our closest match. Although the opposition only lost 3 wickets, they were struggling to score runs all the way through against some very tight bowling and fielding. Had we scored another 20 it would have been very interesting indeed. In this innings a lot of batsmen got starts, we had 6 into double figures, but no one scored more than Benjamin’s 23, which meant the innings continually lost momentum. Our bowling was very good, led by Michael’s ten miserly overs and two superb catches. Arnav and Jason also bowled tightly and took a wicket each. Game 5 v Penrith at The Kingsway. 18 November 2012 Georges River St George 108 (49.4) Costan Griziotis 31, Adrian Bosanac 24 def by Penrith 5/109 (37.3) Michael Watson 10/4/3/20, Ben Montedoro 7/0/2/27 An early batting collapse saw things looking very grim but a great partnership between Costan and Adrian saw us approach a score that was semi-competitive on a very lush outfield. The two boys showed great patience and application to both bat out overs and score runs and help us save face after being 6/35. The bowling was generally good, highlighted by an excellent display of spin bowling from Michael. He was backed up by Ben and Jason in particular however the total we were defending was just too small. Summary A tough but enjoyable season. The boys gave their all and never dropped their heads. Liam kept wicket very well all season too. Hopefully they’ll learn from the experience and come back tougher, more experienced players next season. I’d like to thank everyone who gave their time and effort to help this season. The afternoon teas were wonderful and all those involved deserve a lot of credit. To those who helped at training, with the scorebook, with setting boundary markers, and with driving the boys to Canberra, thank you very much! The attendance of spectators and members of the extended family of the team were all appreciated by Andrew and myself as well as the boys. Tony Watson Manager

ARCH CAWSEY SHIELD REPORT (Under 12)

After two selection trials, the following team was selected to represent the Association in the Creak Shield Competition: Bradley Uglow(Capt) Cooper Miles Matthew Turner (Vice Capt) Rory Russo Jim Baillie. Marcus Zouroudis Matthew Iemma Shaun Shah Michael Kennedy Kurt Chalker Lachlan Bogar Josh Wilson Jai Deep Singh. This seasons’ Cawsey Shield team contained 11 players from last seasons’ Premiership winning Creak Shield team and 2 newcomers. Most of the players were aiming for their third consecutive DCA premiership, having also been members of the premiership Foster Shield team in 2010-2011. Unfortunately, despite a courageous effort, the team fell short in the semi final to eventual premiers Sutherland. Round 1 vs MANLY at PLATEAU PARK, COLLAROY. 21 OCTOBER, 2012. Georges River St George 4/180 Matthew Iemma 51, Brad Uglow 27, Michael Kennedy 39no; Cooper Miles 19no Won By 6 Wickets Manly 7/179 Rory Russo 4/26. A much closer and tougher game than indicated by the scores. Georges River St. George won the toss and sent Manly in to bat. Their openers began confidently and set about building a big total with a stand of 87. Manly were coasting at 1/140 and with 10 overs left looked set for a total beyond the 200 mark. However, a spirited fight-back by the bowlers, in particular spinner Rory Russo, saw Manly finish with a strong 179 instead. The run chase started nervously and with early wickets the team was struggling at 2/39. However, opener Matthew Iemma 51 and Captain Brad Uglow 27 steadied the innings and their partnership of 56 put the team back on track for victory. At 4/119 after 35 overs the game still hung in the balance. But a wonderful match winning partnership of 61 in 11 overs between Michael Kennedy and Cooper Miles saw the team home with overs to spare. Clean hitting and copy book running between the wickets broke the resistance of a determined and worthy opponent. Round 2 vs INNER WEST HARBOUR at SCARBOROUGH PARK, KOGARAH. 28 OCTOBER 2012. Georges River St George. 7/189 Matthew Iemma 64, Bradley Uglow 43, Kurt Chalker 19. Won By 116 Runs. Inner West Harbour. 9/74 Rory Russo 3/11, Cooper Miles 2/5, Matthew Iemma 2/18. REPRESENTATIVE TEAM REPORTS

A comprehensive win against an outgunned opponent. A watchful start, under grey clouds and light drizzle, saw the team progress to 2/32 after 14 overs. Then a brilliant 89 run partnership between Matthew Iemma and Brad Uglow built the platform for victory. With Matthew continuing to hold the innings together for a career best 64, the middle order of Michael Kennedy and Kurt Chalker carved up the bowling as the total raced towards 200. Inner West never seriously threatened the victory target of 190, slumping to 5/26 after 22 overs. Leading the bowling honours was Cooper Miles, whose superb spells of swing bowling saw him finish with a stunning 2/5 off 8 overs, including 5 maidens. He received great support from Matthew Turner 1/7 off 8 overs, including 6 maidens, and spinners Rory Russo 3/11 and Matthew Iemma 2/18. Round 3 vs NORTHERN DISTRICTS at CURTIS OVAL, DUNDAS. – 4 NOVEMBER, 2012. Georges River St George 3/78 Matthew Turner 32no, Matthew Iemma 17, Michael Kennedy 10no. Won By 7 Wickets Northern Districts 10/76 Michael Kennedy 2/5, Brad Uglow 2/6, Josh Wilson 3/7, Rory Russo 2/15. Another fine all round performance as the team was untroubled in defeating Northern Districts. Batting first our opponents managed a modest 76. A fiery opening spell from Michael Kennedy claimed the wickets of the top two batters for ducks. From then on the opposition really struggled against the line and length of the medium pacers. The spinners also caused no end of trouble claiming a combined 6/25 off 14 overs. Michael Kennedy led the pace attack superbly with 2/5 off 6 overs. He was ably supported by Brad Uglow, Matthew Turner and Cooper Miles. The spinning honours went to Josh Wilson who mopped up the tail by claiming the last 3 wickets. At one stage Northern Districts lost 8/29 in 25 overs after Michael Kennedy’s initial onslaught. The team’s batters were untroubled in passing the target with only 3 wickets down. At the top of the order Matthew Turner returned to form with a fine 31 not out and Matthew Iemma continued his great start to the season with 17 in an opening stand of 43 which set up the victory chase. Round 4 vs CAMDEN at CUTHILL OVAL, CAMDEN. 11 NOVEMBER, 2012. Georges River St George 8/107 Brad Uglow 27, Lachlan Bogar 23. Won By 2 Wickets. Camden 8/106 Rory Russo 3/18 What a difference a year makes. In the corresponding match last season, Camden lost by a massive 145 runs. This time they almost pulled off a stunning upset with our team only just prevailing in a nail biting finish. Camden batted first on a typically lush and slow field. The top order batters looked untroubled as they compiled a painstaking 63 in 32 overs for the loss of only one wicket. However, a strong fight back by the bowlers, led by spinner Rory Russo 3/18, saw Camden collapse to lose 7/43 in their final 18 overs. The small victory target almost proved beyond the team. The batsmen never looked settled during a tense run chase. This was mainly due to outstanding swing bowling and fielding from a vastly improved Camden team. Nevertheless, at 2/71 victory seemed assured until a sensational collapse of 6/28 in 13 overs, sent the team spiralling towards defeat. However, fortunes swung back our way when tailenders Russo and Bailie nervously squeezed out the winning runs as the overs began to run out. Round 5 vs A.C.T at BEVERLY HILLS PARK – 18/11/2011 Georges River St George 2/158 Matthew Iemma 65no, Brad Uglow 56no Won By 61 Runs. A.C.T. 10/97 Jai Deep Singh 4/16. Brad Uglow 3/12. The last of the competition rounds saw the team win the toss and bat first on a dreadfully slow field. A disastrous start saw the team slump to 2/18 after 14 overs. However, Matthew Iemma and Brad Uglow combined for a magnificent unbroken partnership of 138 which took the game away from A.C.T. In usual fashion, Matthew Iemma kept his composure and technique to bat through the innings for a career best 65 not out. Captain Brad Uglow compiled a typically pugnacious innings, brought to an end by a freakish accident that caused his retirement. When the innings came to a close the team had posted an imposing total 2/158. A.C.T commenced their innings as if playing a T20, slamming 15 runs off the first 2 overs. However, as soon as the first breakthrough came, the rest followed quickly without much resistance. Most of the damage was done by a brilliant spell of swing bowling from Jai Deep Singh, who crashed through the ACT top order claiming 4/5 in his first 4 overs. Captain Uglow recovered from his injury to provide strong support with 3/12, capping a fine all round performance. Unfortunately, a spirited last wicket stand of 26 from the A.C.T tail enders was enough to deny our team top spot on quotient. This ensured a Preliminary Final clash with the highly fancied North Shore. REPRESENTATIVE TEAM REPORTS

PRELIMINARY FINAL vs NORTH SHORE at OLDS PARK 25/11/2011. Georges River St George 4/175 Matthew Iemma 46, Matthew Turner 39no, Michael Kennedy 32, Lost By 2 Wickets North Shore 8/181 Cooper Miles. 3/16. An extraordinary loss and one that should never have occurred. The team was in control for almost the entire match, but crucial lapses in concentration in the dying moments saw North Shore snatch an amazing comeback victory. Batting first in oppressive heat and stifling humidity, the openers Matthew Iemma and Lachlan Bogar, were untroubled in an excellent partnership of 55. The momentum continued with Matthew Iemma, Matthew Turner and Michael Kennedy scoring at will. When the innings closed our team had posted an impressive 175 against the much heralded North Shore attack. Adding to North Shore’s difficulties was a 3 over penalty for slow play, leaving them with a tough run rate of almost 4 runs an over for victory. North Shore started nervously and struggled against tight bowling and committed fielding. At the half way mark they had posted only 43 runs and the required rate had jumped to almost 6 an over. As the match entered the last 10 overs, the pressure on North Shore intensified with the run rate required climbing to 6.5. However, at this point it was our team’s discipline that began to break. Tight bowling gave way to short, way ward deliveries. In the field dropped chances, missed run outs and fumbles brought North Shore back into the match. This combined with swashbuckling hitting, saw North Shore thrash 69 runs in 7 overs, with 38 runs coming in the last 3 overs. It was a brilliant counter attack by the North Shore batters, highlighted by the fact that they achieved their remarkable victory with 2 overs to spare. SEMI FINAL vs SUTHERLAND at THE RIDGE, MENAI. 2/12/2012. Georges River St George 10/119 Matthew Turner 33. Brad Uglow 29. Michael Kennedy 18. Lost By 37 Runs Sutherland 2/155 Matthew Iemma. 1/19. A rematch of last season’s Creak Shield semi saw Sutherland gain revenge in an impressive all round performance. Georges River St. George fought courageously but were no match for a significantly improved Sutherland. Our team won the toss and sent Sutherland in to bat, with fine conditions prevailing. The writing was on the wall when at least 3 “sitters“ were put down early on. This coupled with numerous fumbles saw run out opportunities missed and easy runs given away. With these let offs, the Sutherland openers set about building a platform for victory with an accomplished stand of 82. This impressive batting continued throughout the remainder of the innings, as Sutherland finished with a strong 155 for the loss of just two wickets. Of the bowlers, only Matthew Iemma posed any difficulties with 1/19 off 10 overs. Our team struggled in the chase for victory against a tight fielding and a disciplined Sutherland attack. Matthew Turner and Brad Uglow combined for a fighting partnership of 41, which briefly raised hopes of reaching the target. There was still a chance at 3/92 with Michael Kennedy providing valuable support to Brad Uglow. However, once that partnership was broken, the loss of 7/27 in just 13 overs put paid to any prospects of victory. In the field, Sutherland were just too well drilled.

J H CREAK SHIELD REPORT (Under 11)

The team was represented by Eric Serra, Michael Karahalias, Mathew Messner, Jackson Lenzo, Mark Mardini, Alex Lacorcia, Josh Vella, Lachlan Forrest, Nicholas McKenzie, Tavish Humphreys-Jones, Lachlan Scott, Bill Salameh and Jack Kleem. The Under 11 Creak Shield team started off the season with mixed results in the trials, playing against Sutherland and Bankstown. We won convincingly against Sutherland but had a batting collapse against Bankstown. Having a tough pool with North Shore (who went onto make the semis) and Central Coast (who won the competition), the boys were going to have to put in a strong performance to make the finals. Our season started well, winning against Sutherland, but then suffered a loss away against Central Coast. Our task was made more difficult when we lost one of our strongest batters before the third round when he had his appendix out, after having impressed in the trials by top scoring in both games. We were in need of a win against North Shore to confirm a position into the finals. Unfortunately we narrowly lost, unable to get REPRESENTATIVE TEAM REPORTS the ninth batsman out, who topped scored for their team with 43 not out. The boys won the remaining two matches against Blacktown and Camden, however we needed other results to go our way for us to progress, but this was not to be. We thank Jack Kleem who filled in for the injured player with a great performance in the field. The fielding and bowling performance was definitely the biggest strength for St George. With the boys amazingly conceding less than half the sundries of the other teams in the competition, it was a whole team effort. Adam Scott (first time representative coach) noted this, repeatedly telling the boys “I’m proud of being your coach; you did all I could ask from you in the field. It was a whole team effort”. Josh Vella was solid throughout the season opening the batting and top scoring with 98, having to on more than one occasion steady the innings and stay at the crease for the majority of the game. As the keeper he was also impressive behind the stumps, only conceding 8 byes in 5 games. This did not go unnoticed, as he was voted the clear winner by his peers for “players’ player”. Although not progressing to the finals, the season overall was an enjoyable one and this was noted by parents and evidenced in the enthusiasm of the players in their training and on-field performance. We finished off the season with a father son match, manager V coach, with the manager’s team winning, of course. There were great shows of athleticism by the players and sometimes by the parents, with only two pulled hamstrings, a sore back and bad memories of a one piece suit, all backed up by the courage of the mums to take to the wicket with bare feet. The day was enjoyed by everyone and progressed into the night and will become a permanent fixture for seasons to come. Thanks to all the parents especially for the outstanding lunches. Adam and I would also like to thank the boys for making it such a great season and wish you all well for the upcoming season. Results for the season are as follows St George 3/97 def Sutherland 10/93 Mathew Messner 39 . Lachlan Forrest 10 overs 1 wicket for 15 runs. Michael Karahalias 5 overs 2 maidens 3/6

Central Coast 6/168 def St George 10/85 in the 41 st over Josh Vella 18. Alex Lacorcia 8 overs 1/15

North Shore 7/132 def St George 9/104 Josh Vella 39. Lachlan Forrest 10 overs 4 maidens 3/15

St George 4/117 def Blacktown 5/114 in the 40th over Josh Vella 27. Lachlan Scott 8 overs 3 maidens 2/11

St George 6/103 def Camden 10/102 in the 41 st over Jackson Lenzo 23 with 2 sixes. Bill Salameh 8 overs 3 maidens 4/10

FOSTER SHIELD REPORT ( Under 10 )

After two trial sessions and with the help of Dan Sieley the following team was selected to represent the association for the upcoming season. Matthew Uglow (Captain) George Kazakonis Nicholas Bosanac (VC) Darcy Mooney Keiran Beadon Joel Murphy Tomas Breen Billy Psiahos Benjamin Cole Lachlan Shoemaker Jack Gibson James Touma We had two trial games organised by the association and against South Eastern and Bankstown. This enabled us to set up a competitive team for the challenges ahead. Returning players Nicholas (second season) and Matthew (third season) showed their abilities and set a good example to the rest of the boys of what is expected. All players excelled during the trials and we were looking forward to the upcoming season. REPRESENTATIVE TEAM REPORTS

Round 1 – 21/10/2012 at Tonbridge Park Georges River St George 8/164 N Bosanac 55, M Uglow 27 Defeated on 1st innings Blacktown (Black) 75 D Mooney 4/23, B Cole 3/18, M Uglow 2/13 Matthew got us off to a good start in our first real game as a team by winning the toss and electing to bat. Our openers did very well and we were only one down for 29 at the first break. Even better batting had us at 86 at the half way mark but for the loss of 4 wickets. Time to consolidate our innings and this job fell to Nicholas who top scored and Lachlan, our only left hander in the team. He anchored the next 20 overs to walk off with 19no. next to his name and the team total at a respectable 164 off 40 overs. Blacktown couldn’t manage our opening bowlers and were at 5/28 at the first break. 7/51 saw in the half time break after an exceptionally tight 10 overs. All players gave 100% and the result of this effort showed in the scorebook. Runs and wickets were both hard to come by for the next 10 overs. We stuck at the task at hand to have Blacktown 9/63 at 30 overs. Blacktown all out in the 33rd over for a great team win and a real confidence builder for the rest of the season. Round 2 28/10/2012 at Les Shore 2 Georges River St George 9/109 M Uglow 37, J Gibson 24 And 0/62 N Bosanac 31, M Uglow 28 Lost on 1st Innings to Hornsby and Ku Ring Gai Hills 5/149(Dec.) J Touma 2/15 Hornsby won the toss and sent us in. Jack and Kieran survived the first 10 overs for 22 runs against good bowling and fielding. Kieran was run out in the 12th and Jack stumped in the 19th to see us at 73 at the half way break. A steady fall of wickets followed for the next 20 overs despite stoic defence by all batsmen. We claimed a minor victory in being not all out after our allotted overs. A wicket maiden to Benjamin in the first over lifted our spirits. One wicket to Darcy in his fourth had Hornsby at 2/49 at the first break. The next 10 overs saw no wickets fall and Hornsby only 1 run behind our total. They passed our total the next over and to the surprise of everyone batted on for another 9 overs. With an outright win in mind Hornsby sent us back in. Given instructions to not get out we opened with Matthew and Nicholas. Our second innings of 8 overs, 4 of which were really good spin, yielded 62 runs for no wickets and good batting practice for the openers who bludgeoned the Hornsby attack. We lost to a better team on the day but take some positives out of this game. Our batting survived 40 overs of quality bowling. Our fielding never let up and our attitude was exceptional for the whole game. Round 3 4/11/2012 at Tonbridge Park Georges River St George 9/124 M Uglow 53, J Gibson 15 Defeated on 1st innings Canterbury West 104 D Mooney 2/15, B Cole 2/17 Matthew returned to his winning way at the toss and elected to bat. Kieran fell early and Jack and Matthew came together for a 69 run partnership over 15 overs. All other batsmen put in for a competitive total of 124 off our allocated 40 overs with a wicket still in hand. An early wicket to Darcy in the 6th over saw Canterbury dig in. 1/31 at 10 overs and 2/67 20 had the game slightly in Canterbury’s favour. 4 wickets for 13 runs over the next 10 overs put us back to an even position at the third break. An exciting last 10 overs saw the last wicket fall to Kieran’s first ball in the last over. This game saw Joel try his spin for the first time to good effect and introduced better options to our attack. Once again the concentration and attitude of this young team saw them victorious. Everyone put in to come from a poor position for a great win. Round 4 11/11/2012 at Tonbridge Park Georges River St George 5/114 M Uglow 42no, N Bosanac 27, K Beadon 27 Lost on 1st innings to North Shore1 1/115 Matthew won the toss and elected to bat which was the first thing to go right for us today. Jack could not play due to a severe case of gastro that he has already shared around his family. A quick call on the day saw Blake Landy called in as 12th man, a roll he did exceptionally well at to the gratitude of his new team mates. REPRESENTATIVE TEAM REPORTS

With an opener down Nicholas was called up to fill this important role. A 53 run in 28 overs partnership followed to get us off to a great start. Then in came Matthew. His cameo of 52no set up our innings. We were happy with 114 on a slow Tonbridge outfield. Out we went to field and where no one bowled badly we could not take a wicket. Matthew had to do it himself with a great caught and bowled. North Shore’s openers steadily accumulated runs to pass our score 1 down in the 23rd over for an emphatic victory and an early finish. We still have not been all out after batting and tried for the whole 23 overs. At 2 wins and 2 losses next game is really important for our semi-finals aspirations. Round 5 18/11/2012 at Liverpool Catholic Club Georges River St George 2/138 K Beadon 50no, N Bosanac 49no Defeated on 1st innings Fairfield Liverpool 7/75 K Beadon 2/4 For the second week in a row we got the phone call to dread, so we called on Blake Landy again to fill the 12th man duties. Matthew continued his run of good calling at the toss and elected to bat on a good looking picket fenced oval. Just before the first drinks break Jack was run out and Matthew went to a good catch to have us at 2/34 at 10 overs. For the next 30 overs we were treated to the wonderful sight of two batsmen at the top of their game. Nicholas was unlucky not to get his second 50 of the tournament and Keiran proved to all his ability to carry his bat for the 40 overs. Fairfield Liverpool came out and steadily accumulated runs but never threatened to reach our total. 9 maidens and as many overs with only 1 run taken off proved the level of competitiveness our boys have, they never reduced intensity over the whole Fairfield Liverpool innings. Even the boys who had to watch the batting did not give up or complain about their reduced involvement in the game. A good win that should ensure a semi final spot. Semi Final 25/11/2012 at Pottery Green Georges River St George 31 J Gibson 11 Lost on 1st innings to North Shore 1 2/33 B Cole 1/2 Three wins and two losses was enough to get us into the finals series. We drew the formidable North Shore 1 who had already defeated us once in the earlier rounds. Pottery Green had a patchwork surface but otherwise a really nice looking oval. Playing with the we opened with our two highest scoring batsmen who fell in overs 4 and 5. At 10 overs we were 2/24 with our usual openers at the crease, we did not make 20 overs losing our last 7 wickets for 1 run. North Shore’s spinner returned the amazing figures of 5/0, having four of our batters caught and a stumping too. With not enough runs on the board but an abundance of attitude and confidence we went out to win. Our opening bowlers were equal to the task and were almost unplayable returning the combined figures of 1/5 for the first eight overs. Everyone put in for the team and the first break saw North Shore 2/7 off 10 with Matthew getting the other wicket. They passed our score in the 16th over without further loss for a good win. Their spinner proved to be the difference. To our credit Georges River St George players played the game in the correct spirit and never gave up, the fight. This young team of very talented cricketers represented the association exceptionally well. All played the game to the best of their abilities and in the right spirit. All boys will have a great future in cricket. Thanks go to Paul Mooney who volunteered to manage the team. His calm approach to organising game days earned him the respect of all who had dealings with him. Paul, I particularly enjoyed our midweek strategy chats and your insights into the game and players. I cannot thank Mat Schoemaker and Peter Murphy enough for scoring and a very neat scorebook. Thanks to all the mums and dads for the quality lunch supplied at each home game, special mention to the BBQ dads too. Further thanks due to the parents for bringing the boys to training and the games all across Sydney. I feel the dads enjoyed the little competitions against the boys at training too. Thanks to all the siblings and Grandparents who came to support the team, giving an unbeatable atmosphere to the games. Thanks to Killer from Ramsgate RSL AFL for the use of their canteen and BBQ. Thanks to Dan Sieley for his assistance as a selector. Thanks to Riley Orr for his assistance at training and on game day, he could quite possibly be the tallest Foster Shield player ever. Thanks to Jeff Evans and his committee for allowing me to coach this wonderful team. And mostly thanks to the team for a great season of cricket, played in good spirit and with great skills.
