Í flestum tilfellum voru viðfangsefnin óeiginlegar breytistjörnur, aðallega myrkvatvístirni, en einnig var fylgst með nokkrum fjarreikistjörnum. Í mælingum á myrkvatvístirnum og fjarreikistjörnum er markmiðið að tímasetja myrkva og þvergöngur. Einnig er sagt frá niðurstöðum á nándarstjörnunni Ross 248 og athugunum á lausþyrpingunni NGC 7790 og breytistjörnum í nágrenni hennar. Markmið mælinga á nándarstjörnu og lausþyrpingum er að meta fjarlægðir eða aðra eiginleika fyrirbæranna. Að lokum eru kynntar athuganir á litrófi nokkurra bjartra stjarna. Í samantektinni er sagt frá hverju viðfangsefni í sérköflum. Þessi samantekt er sú þriðja um stjörnuathuganir sem er gefin út af Náttúrustofu Suðausturlands. Niðurstöður hafa verið sendar í alþjóðlegan gagnagrunn þar sem þær, ásamt fjölda sambærilegra mæligagna frá stjörnuáhugamönnum, eru aðgengilegar stjarnvísindasamfélaginu. On leaving the planetarium, turn around and look northwards over the roof of the building. To your right is a group of stars like the outline of a saucepan standing up on it’s handle. This is the Plough (also called the Big Dipper) and is part of the constellation Ursa Major, the Great Bear. The top two stars are called the Pointers. Check with binoculars. Not all stars are white. The colour shows that Dubhe is cooler than Merak in the same way that red-hot is cooler than white-hot. 2. Use the Pointers to guide you to the left, to the next bright star. This is Polaris, the Pole (or North) Star. Note that it is not the brightest star in the sky, a common misconception. Below and to the right are two prominent but fainter stars. These are Kochab and Pherkad, the Guardians of the Pole. Look carefully and you will notice that Kochab is slightly orange when compared to Polaris. This guide will help you find some bright variable stars, measure their brightness and Ci#zenSky is a collaboraon of then submit the measurements to assist the American Associaon of professional astronomers. Variable Star Observers (AAVSO), the University of Denver, the Adler Planetarium, the Johns Hopkins University Par1cipate in one of the oldest ci1zen science and the California Academies projects in history! Light curves are a fundamental tool for variable star astronomy. They are relavely simple and easy to grasp. They are simply a graph of brightness (Y axis) vs. 1me (X axis). Brightness increases as you go up the graph and 1me advances as you move to the right. The brightness of a star is measured in units of “magnitude”. No1ce that the magnitude scale on the graph above shows smaller numbers as the star gets brighter and larger numbers as the star gets fainter. -

Tim writes: This famous triplet of galaxies is known as ‘The Leo Trio,’ a catchy name for a wildly unlikely group of three large galaxies: M65, M66, and NGC 3628. All three are interacting with each other, and are quite close to each other, at least as far as large galaxies go. M65 and 66 are about 160,000 light years apart, about the same as the distance between us and the Magellanic Clouds. Imagine the view of each other these two galaxies enjoy! NGC 3628 is a bit farther from the two, about 300,000 years. If we think our view of M31 is unbelievable, suitably positioned astronomers in these galaxies enjoy a vastly superior view of their neighbors! M66 has been deeply disrupted by the interactions with its two neighbors. -
