Course Overview: This course will prepare students for competition in speech and debate events

Course Evaluation:

- Tests/Tournament Performance: 60% - See Back for details

- Daily Work/Research: 40%

Supplies Needed: - Pen and paper (Daily) - Student Notebook (Composition or Spiraled) - Laptop with Microsoft Word and Dropbox installed (For research and debate competitions)

Classroom Rules: - All rules in the student handbook apply and will be enforced. - Treat others with respect, both verbally and physically. - No name calling or verbal abuse. - No personal grooming of yourself or others in class (Includes applying make-up or hair styling). - Participate in class by discussing class topics and completing your work.

Classroom Rewards: - Verbal Praise - Extra Credit - Letter of praise to your parents

Classroom Consequences: 1. Verbal warning. (for normal infractions only) 2. Verbal warning and call/email to parents. (for normal infractions only) 3. After/before school detention in classroom and call/email to parents. 4. Office referral and parent teacher conference.

Your best 2 tournaments per 9 weeks will count as two of your 3 test grades for the 9 weeks.

Any forfeitures or intentional no show is an automatic 0 for the tournament, excluding coach permission or sickness

0/3=65 1/3=75 2/3=90 3/3=100

0/4=60 1/4=70 2/4=80 3/4=90 4/4=100

0/5=60 1/5=68 2/5=78 3/5=87 4/5=95 5/5=100

Novice Scale:

0/3: 75 1/3: 85 2/3: 95 3/3: 100

0/4: 75 1/4: 80 2/4: 87 3/4: 95 4/4: 100

0/5: 75 1/5: 80 2/5: 85 3/5: 90 4/5: 95 5/5: 100
