The Human Resources Division has an opportunity for a motivated individual to fill the challenging position of Occupational Health and Safety Consultant. Utilizing outstanding coaching and communication skills, the successful candidate will influence and motivate line management to integrate occupational health and safety into their everyday operations. The consultant provides advice and guidance in all aspects of OH&S including best practices and leading edge technology, hazard identification and evaluation, hazard control, incident investigation, inspection programs, work related emergency response procedures, health and safety related training, orientation and audits.

Responsibilities include:

 Assisting in leading, developing and implementing modern OH&S concepts within the Edmonton Police Service.  OH&S auditing, program evaluation, action plan development and project management.  Communicating information to Service Divisions, enabling them to determine the best course of action related to OH&S concerns.  Identifying OH&S deficiencies and working in a cooperative fashion to implement corrective actions.  Preparing detailed month end/year end OH&S reports for clients.  Assisting in the review of existing and planned work procedures, providing recommendations to ensure worker safety.  Advising on compliance with Occupational Health & Safety Legislation, Regulations and City Policy and Procedures.  Other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

 Completion of post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety/Industrial Hygiene.  OH&S related professional designation.  Certification or eligibility for certification as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP).  Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the health and safety field, including OH&S consulting.  Experience working in a police or law enforcement environment would be considered an asset.  Strong presentation, report writing, communication and interpersonal skills and proven problem solving ability are required.  Excellent computer skills (MS Office Suite).  Applicants may be tested.  THE EDMONTON POLICE SERVICE WILL CONDUCT AN ENHANCED SECURITY CLEARANCE ON THOSE CANDIDATES WHO HAVE BEEN SHORT-LISTED.

Hours of Work

36.9 hours per week. The hours of work for management employees may vary and may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.

Salary Range:

95M, Salary Grade: PT2, $36.59 - $52.28 (Hourly), $2,700.60 - $3,857.90 (Bi-Weekly), $70,486.63 - $100,691.06 (Annually).
