Review Reflect Remember

Lesson 28 Review – Reflect - Remember Applying the book

But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. 2 Peter 3:10-121; Rom 5:8; 1 Peter 2:21; Cor 11:26

If you contemplate yourself, that is sure damnation. But since Christ has been so imparted to you with all his benefits that all that is his is made yours – that you are made a member of him, indeed one with him – his righteousness overwhelms your sins; his salvation wipes out your condemnation; with his worthiness he intercedes that your unworthiness may not come before God’s sight. John Calvin

Preaching the gospel to ourselves every day gives us hope, joy, and courage. The good news that our sins are forgiven because of Christ’s death fills our hearts with joy, gives us courage to face the day, and offers us hope that God’s favor will rest upon us, not because we are good, but because we are in Christ Jerry Bridges

The Christian gospel is that I am so flawed that Jesus had to die for me, yet I am so loved and valued that Jesus was glad to die for me. This leads to deep humility and deep confidence at the same time. It undermines both swaggering and sniveling. I cannot feel superior to anyone, and yet I have nothing to prove to anyone. I do not think more of myself nor less of myself. Instead, I think of myself less. Tim Keller

Introduction: The danger of knowledge

Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. The man who thinks he knows something does not yet know as he ought to know. But the man who loves God is known by God. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 1 Cor 8:1-3; 1 Cor 13:2

1 2 Cor 12:3-4 3 And I know that this man — whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, but God knows— 4 was caught up to paradise. He heard inexpressible things, things that man is not permitted to tell.
