Camp Card Sale- Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)
What discounts are available in my community? The one time break-off coupons for Buy One Get One Hungry Howie’s medium pizza and $1 off a KFC Classic Combo are fixed discounts available as part of every card purchase. Additional discounts are activated by registering the card online. You may view a non-working sample website of the discounts currently available at www.saversguide.com. This will allow you to search for discounts by city or zip code. It will also allow you to become familiar with the process of selecting and printing your 10 Premium Discounts for each month and viewing the available Repeat Savings and Online Deals. Are the discounts limited to Michigan? No, discounts are available throughout the United States. Cards can be sold to friends and relatives in other states. Monthly premium discounts can be used while on vacation or traveling to other areas of the country.
Does the unit commission from Camp Cards have to be used for Camp? Camp Cards sales are successful because we are selling the idea of sending a Scout to Camp. All commissions from the sale are handled at the unit level. Each unit must decide how it plans to allocate the funding. It is the intent of the Great Lakes Field Service Council that each Scout will benefit for the full value of the commission earned for each card sale. 400
Out unit is not planning to go to an MCC Camp. Can I still sell Camp Cards? Yes, the commission is earned by the Scout and administered by their unit. The funds may be directed as approved by the unit leadership.
How does a unit get its commission? Each unit orders the number of camp cards it anticipates it can sell to help its Scouts attend camp. No money is due when cards are delivered. Units collect money as cards are sold. The 50% unit commission ($2.50 per card) is immediately available to pay camp fees and the cost of the card is not due to the Great Lakes Field Service Council until the units June roundtable. Units may also choose to pay for their Camp Cards at their local Field Service Council office by June 9, 2016.
Can I return unsold Camp Cards? Yes, Units can return 100% of camp cards checked out. The last day for returns is June 2, 2016. Although the suggested time frame for the Camp Card sale is April 21, 2016 through June Roundtable, units may continue to sell cards until they are gone. The only stipulation is that the $2.50 cost for each card be paid by June 9, 2016 in order to earn the 50% commission on each card.
How many cards should I order for my unit? History from sales in other Councils in the BSA show that approximately 50% of a units Scouts will sell Camp Cards and each Scout sells an average of 20 cards each. You should adjust this estimate based upon the enthusiasm and commitment of your Scouts and their parents.

What happens to the other $2.50? The Great Lakes Field Service Council pays Entertainment (card sponsor) in advance for each card ordered. This cost is covered by the Council portion of each sale. Any additional funds are used by the Great Lakes Field Service Council to help offset their costs of operation.
Are there any “Top Seller” prizes? No, all funds that could have been used to create “Top Seller” recognitions are being put into the unit commissions to make them as high as possible to enable as many Scouts as possible to attend camp.
What if my unit does not place an order for Camp Cards prior to June 2, 2016. Camp Cards will continue to be available on a first come, first served basis until the initial limited order has been exhausted
Can my unit get additional cards if we sell the ones we ordered? Yes, units can order additional cards online up until June 2, 2016. Additional cards may be available on a first come, first served basis after June 2, 2016 based on unit returns. Units that want additional cards may obtain additional cards in the same quantity as those sold and settled with the council. Units can ask for additional cards from my local Field Service Council once I have paid the GLFSC $2.50 for each card already sold. This policy is in effect to help ensure cards remain available for all units and so that units do not have a larger than needed inventory of unsold cards. Exceptions to this policy can only be made by Field Service Council Program and Development Directors.
How do I redeem my discounts? The break off coupons are handed to either Hungry Howie’s or KFC at the time of purchase. Other discounts can be either printed from a computer or accessed using the Entertainment application on your smart phone.
What type of payment will the council take to settle my account? The council will take cash or unit check. If you receive checks when selling cards, please have them made out to your unit and deposit them into your unit account so that you can write one check to Great Lakes Field Service Council to settle your account.
We have a Scout who lost his camp cards. Who is responsible for the money due? Each card has a value of $5.00. The unit must pay the cost of each card accepted for sale. This cost depends on the date the unit account is settled with the council. The cost of the card is $2.50 each if settled by June 9, 2016. Each unit must determine how it will collect for the cost of lost cards.
Can I sell Camp Cards in my Scout uniform? Yes, Camp Cards are a Council sponsored fundraiser and Scouts may wear their uniform when selling cards.

Yes, with exceptions. Sales booths may not be set up on front of Hungry Howie’s or KFC locations. Permission must be obtained from the store in advance for Show and Sell booths. Please be considerate and follow the guidelines in the Camp Cards guide if using the Show and Sell method.
Is the cost of the Camp Card considered a tax deductible donation? No, the value of the card discounts exceeds the cost of the card. Only donations in excess of the value of the benefit can be considered for deduction.
