Board of Education Update – July 25, 2016

Infinite Campus & Registration Update We have made significant upgrades to the registration process through the implementation of OnLine Registration (OLR) in Infinite Campus. Families are able to complete the registration process entirely online, including updating demographic information, signing forms, and paying school fees. In addition, families are able to deposit money into lunch accounts, as we have migrated from MySchool Bucks to the Infinite Campus lunch fees program. Families who qualify for free or reduced lunch are now able to complete their applications online. Registration on July 28 and August 2 will be used to assist families who still have not completed their OLR, to have photos taken, and to pick up student schedules. Due to a generous donation from the Sheboygan Firefighters, American Football Coaches Association, and the Green Bay Packers, the district will be able to provide Child ID Kits for every child in our district.

Academic Standards Later in the agenda for tonight’s meeting, I will be asking the board to formalize the adoption of the Wisconsin Model Academic Standards in order for the District to be in compliance with Wis. Stat. 120.12 (13) (a) and 120.12 (13) (b). This will then allow me to provide notice to parents/guardians of the academic standards that will be in effect for this school year per Wis. Stat. 118.30 (1g)(a)1. The following pages reference the lists of the standards as sited on the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction website. Summer Learning Opportunities  June 21-22 District Leadership Team (DLT) The District Leadership team made up of nine administrators and six teachers met to review the professional development work completed during the school year, engage in new learning around Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and plan the professional development schedule for the upcoming school year.  August 1-5 Bemis Externships Nine teachers have been selected to take part in the Bemis externship this summer. What is an externship? Due to the short duration, the externships can be easily completed during a just five days during the summer. Externships can be viewed as job shadowing, since externs are closely supervised by employee volunteers who agree to walk them through day-to-day routines at the company or organization. The experience allows teachers to apply their coursework learning to a real life setting. Externships are not only conducted for the benefit of the extern, but for the host as well. Both parties get a chance to observe one another. Successful externships could lead to some many possibilities for our teachers, as well as our students.  July 25-27 Tech Ex All staff have been encouraged to attend the summer Tech Ex, which this summer includes SMART Board training. Staff will have an opportunity to extend their use of iPads, putting the new Google to use in their classrooms, and implementing other technology to enhance student learning. Presenters for the Extravaganza are all district staff members.  July 28, August 2, and August 18 Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Both initial and refresher training will take place for both teaching and support staff how to de-escalate students and respond to situations that may involve the use of student restraints.  July 20-21 and August 10-11 Lucy Calkins Writers’ Workshop Teachers will take part in a two- day training to learn about increasing students’ writing skills. The event is being facilitated by teachers from Kaukauna.  Ongoing Summer curriculum work Over 1000 hours in summer curriculum work has been approved for the summer. Below are a sample of the projects that teachers will be working on with their colleagues.
