Job Description and Person Specification for: Senior Lecturer in Medical Sciences

Department: Reports to: Academic Affairs - Faculty Vice Principal Undergraduate Studies

Salary (Grade/Point/Annual/Pro rata): Responsible for: Grade 10 Contributing to the development and delivery of teaching in the clinical sciences and undertaking appropriate scholarship

Hours per week/FTE: Working Hours: 14.5 hours per week (0.4 FTE) e.g. 2 days per week 8:45 to 17:00

Job Purpose/Summary:

The post holder will be responsible to the Vice Principal Undergraduate Studies and Quality and will undertake teaching and scholarship within the clinical sciences (general medicine and diagnosis), as well as, administration and other activities supporting the work of the College and developing and enhancing its reputation both internally and externally.

Main Responsibilities/Key Tasks:

 To develop and deliver high quality clinical sciences teaching at the College and its teaching clinic

 To contribute actively and enthusiastically to the academic administration and management processes of the College

Key Tasks

 To undertake such teaching duties as are appropriate to your area of expertise but in particular to make an influential contribution to the development and delivery of clinical sciences at the College  To contribute to the design and delivery of the curriculum in consultation with colleagues and within the structure and mechanisms established by the College.

 To conduct assessment and ensure that this is rigorous, fair, and clear and undertaken within the policies established by the College.

 To assist with academic administration and management of programmes including for example attending meetings and participating in committees and working groups to which you are elected or appointed.  To contribute to the monitoring of the quality of learning and teaching through course monitoring and to contribute to quality management and enhancement activities across the College.

 To stay abreast of developments in pedagogy and technology enhanced learning and to ensure that these developments are reflected in the evolution of the learning and teaching methods employed.

 To provide support to individual students and groups of students in accordance with the College’s procedures, referring students to further support services as appropriate.

 To undertake scholarly activities relevant to the subject, your teaching responsibilities and professional practice maintaining the level of subject expertise in line with the latest developments in your subject area

 To encourage and promote the generation of income including participation in enterprise activities such as the development of CPD provision.

 To be alert to commercialization opportunities associated with research and to capitalize upon such opportunities where appropriate.
