What You Need to Pack

ALBANY SHS 2017 Country Week What to Bring

For the students attending CW for the first time, here is a quick guide referring to “What to Bring”, “appropriate snacks” and tips for new beginners:

WHAT YOU NEED TO PACK  ALL students are required to bring their own drink bottle on the bus upon our departure on Sunday morning.  Snacks for the ride to Perth – please see list below of appropriate snacks for young athletes.  Country Week playing uniform including, socks, shorts, boots, joggers, playing shirt/ jumper/ blazer/ tie, mouth guards, shin pads, sticks and stick bag (in the case of hockey). Bring what you need to PLAY YOUR SPORT.  Toiletries  Sports Bag you take with you each day  Spending Money SUNDAY – money for a snack at Caltex Williams on route to Perth TUESDAY/ WEDNESDAY – Gold coins ($3.00) for the use of the washing machines at the hotel. Students are responsible for washing their own uniforms (individually or as a team) THURSDAY – Dinner at Garden City Booragoon food court. Shopping for personal items. FRIDAY – Lunch at Armadale (or earlier at playing fields as there is no lunch tent open on Friday)  Bathers and towel plus a warm jumper for recovery sessions  Minimal clothing. Most of our activities require students to be in their ASHS CW tracksuit for identification purposes.  Clean underwear for at least 6 days  Wet weather gear - jacket  Plastic water proof bag in case of inclement weather to store wet clothes.  PJ’s

WHAT YOU DON’T NEED TO BRING

 Your ‘life savings’ – although having access to spending money for food is a necessity on two occasions, I would strongly discourage students bringing large amounts of cash with them. Their key card is usually safer (if they have one).  Excessive amounts of electronic equipment – there are TV’s in every room along with a DVD player. In the past students have brought along their XBOX, WII or PS3 for evening down time. This is not discouraged, but please note you do so at your own risk.  Excessive make-up. This is sporting competition not a modelling audition.  Bedding – These are fully furnished apartments.  Your whole wardrobe! – Just one set of alternative clothing should be sufficient

WHAT EXTRA FOOD YOU CAN SEND ALONG WITH YOUR CHILD

 As adolescents tend to eat a lot, I would recommend sending along some little extras with your child. Excessive amounts of lollies are not considered an appropriate snack, although small quantities immediately following a game of sport, is acceptable and useful in this context for recovery. Large amounts are not!  Foods that are nutritious, quick and easy: Bananas Fruit Up and Go Liquid food Sustagen drinks Powerade/ Gatorade Muffins Sports Bars (not generic muesli bars)  Choose healthy food options to snack on as the wrong fuel will decrease your overall performance  Remember to GET PLENTY OF SLEEP, this is NOT a holiday!!
