No cell phones or other electronic devices without teacher permission. Cell phones should be out of side during class. See attached cell phone policy. 3. Failure to follow the rules will result in a teacher issued detention which must be served within five days. Gross violation of the rules will result in parent contact and an administrator referral. Any Lab Safety violations will result in a grade of 0 for the assignment and an immediate referral.

Students are still required to abide by all rules in the student handbook.

Procedures

For instruction:

01. All students are required to keep a 3 ring binder (or folder) to keep up with documents and assignments. Notebooks will be checked at the end of each six weeks. 02. Notes and examples will be given for the lessons / skills being taught. All students should copy the notes legibly. They should also be actively listening, questioning, and participating in the lesson. 03. All assignments must be turned in on time to receive credit. 04. If you do not have all the required materials for class, please let Mrs. Bartel know before the bell rings! Some items may be available on a first come first serve basis.

Grades

Breakdown:

50% Tests and Projects 50% Labs/Quizzes/Daily

*All lab quiz grades will count twice!! Students are expected to do their own assignments and neatly show all work. Work that is to be completed should be turned in by the end of class. Students who do not turn in work will automatically receive a 0 for that assignment. The student will be able to make up the assignment for one week without penalty. The exception to this will be the last week of the six weeks, in which the student will receive a 0 and will not have the ability to make up the assignment. Students are expected to behave in a professional manner and observe all safety rules. Students who do not follow safety rules will be asked to leave the project until remediation of safety rules is complete.

Grades on Skyward (the Grade Portal) will be updated every Monday.

Reassessment Policy (Summative Assessments):

Students who fail an assessment will be provided an opportunity to retest and may earn a maximum grade of 70 on the retest. The student may retest one time per six weeks grading period.

The student will indicate the desire to retake the test to the teacher. The student must attend one tutorial session prior to retesting. Additional class work/homework, peer assistance, etc.) may be required to determine the student’s readiness for the retest.

Once the student has completed the required instructional reteach activities to prepare for the test, the student will be given a retest.

Absences

If a student is absent, it is the student’s responsibility to get the notes and work missed while absent from Mrs. Bartel either before or after class, before or after school, or during the lunch block. I keep a makeup work box where students may pick up copies of what they missed. If a student was absent on a day that a quiz or test was given, they are to speak with Mrs. Bartel before the bell rings and we will figure out a time to make it up. Any labs missed MUST be made up in tutorials or an alternative assignment must be completed.

The district grading policy is as follows (revised March 2016):

Students who are absent from class will be allowed one day more than the number of days missed to complete make-up work for full credit. This includes tests, quizzes, homework, class work, daily work, labs, etc. Students may receive a grade penalty on assignments not returned on time after an absence, if not turned in to the teacher after make-up time has expired. After the allotted time, the teacher’s late work policy will be in effect. Students who miss class for any reason will be expected to complete make up work. Assignments of a long-term nature such as a research paper or major project are not subject to the same make up policies as daily work, test, assignments or quizzes. Assignments with a completion date of more than one week from the date of assignment are considered a long-term assignment and shall be turned in on the prescribed day. Due to the long term nature of these assignments, students shall make arrangements to present the assignments on the due date. These long-term assignments and due dates shall be clearly communicated to students and parents. Should an extended illness occur during a long-term assignment the teacher, parent, counselor and/or administrator will have a conference to determine the date the assignment is due to the teacher. This conference shall occur before the assigned due date. Only in extreme circumstances will any long- term project be accepted after the due date. In case of absence on the due date, it will be the student’s responsibility to make arrangements to have the project or paper brought to school on or before the due date, before the end of the school day. Students who know in advance that they will not be in class on the date a project or paper is due must make sure that the project or paper is turned in before the absence. Effective teacher/student/parent communication during the term of a long-term assignment should reduce significantly the possibility of miscommunication about the due dates and procedures for long term assignments.

Tutoring

Tutorials will be offered during mega lunch. Tutoring times will be posted in the classroom.

Keys to Success

. Be prepared and actively participate. Ask questions. . Be organized. Don’t get zeros for losing or missing work. . Finish every assignment. . Take notes. . Study for quizzes and tests. . See me the second you feel you are falling behind, I will be glad to help. . If you have a question – get the answer. Consult me, a friend, or even the internet.

CELL PHONE POLICY Cell phones present a distraction in the classroom and will not be allowed. Students will be provided a place to “turn off and turn in all electronic devices” upon entering the classroom. It is the expectation that every student will place their cell phone in the designated location upon entering the classroom. Failure to do so will result in a disciplinary referral. CONFIRMATION
