The Medical in China costs 554RMB at time of writing and is the responsibility of the Student Teacher. The TEFL-in-China Course

After a few days in Mrs Panda Hostel, we will then arrange for you to do the second part of the TEFL-in-China training, after the online course. If for any reason you haven’t yet completed the online course, you’ll still begin the practical part of the course and will need to catch up later. TEFL-in-China’s website is http://tefl.chinajob.com and has more detailed information about the course.

About the Practical Course

The practical course is split over 7 consecutive days, 9:00-17:00. There will be various modules with an emphasis on practical training, helping to prepare you for your teaching placement. On the last day you will take an exam, testing what you have learned. If for any reason you do not pass the exam, the team in China will arrange an opportunity for you to retake the exam at no cost to you. On the last page is sample timetable for the TEFL-in-China course. The actual timetable may vary, depending on the timetable of your trainer, but this should give you an idea of what to expect:

Online Mandarin Lessons

As part of the Study Programme, Enfly Education will also provide you with some free Mandarin Lessons. The Mandarin Lessons are done online with an online tutor where you can dial in via video/voice chat to an online classroom.

The mandarin lessons will serve as a basic introduction to Mandarin and are mandatory. You will be marked each month by your tutor, and this mark will count towards your Stage Two Scholarship. Money needed for first month

Enfly Education recommend that you bring a minimum of 4000-4500RMB to keep you going until your first bursary payment. This should cover your living expenses until then. Other costs to consider:

● Hotel Deposit (100RMB) refunded when you leave Mrs Panda

● Medical Fee - 554RMB (correct as of April 2016)

● SIM Card - 50RMB (deducted from first month’s bursary)

● Apartment Deposit (1000RMB to be deducted from first month’s bursary, returned at the end of the Apartment term, providing it has been left in good condition.

● Your living cost including food and beddings or other needed household items. These should depend on your own living expectation.

The Teaching Placement

Once you have completed the TEFL-in-China training, the team in China will then begin to allocate you to your Teaching Placement. About the placement:

Enfly Education agrees to provide you with a maximum of 20 teaching hours per week. This is normally spent in one placement school, but Students should also be aware that their placement may be placed across multiple schools.

There are no office hours required for the Study Programme, but Students should also find time in the week to prepare their lesson plans for classes and submit the teaching plan weekly to Enfly Education.

Placement School Location:

Most placement schools will be within walking distance of the Student Teacher’s apartment, but Students should also be willing to travel to their Teaching placements if required.

If the Student Teacher needs to travel via public transport to a placement school, they can claim travel expenses from the team in China. In some cases, Enfly Education will arrange for a driver to pick you up from school.

Most of our placement schools on the Study Programme are within Chengdu or other smaller cities and towns beyond Chengdu city. Enfly will help you rent the apartment as close as to your placed school; for those who may teach in several schools, Enfly will try to help you rent the apartment where easy public transportations can get access to. Getting Placed in the school:

Some schools will require the Student Teacher to do a demonstration lesson before being placed in the school. If this applies to you, you’ll be able to use some of the skills learned in your TEFL- in-China training. If for any reason the school decides they require a different teacher, don’t worry, Enfly Education will find you an alternative placement school with ease.

Your First Day:

Your first day in the placement school can sometimes be daunting, but here are a few handy tips to consider:

● School Contact - You should have a specific contact at the school, who should be able to help you with your timetable and introduce you to the school staff. Please use this person as your primary point of contact. If you have problem with the contact in the school, please inform Enfly office for help. Most of the placement schools will also provide you with a Chinese Language assistant to help you in lessons. If this doesn’t apply to you, please use your school contact if you have any issues. You can also contact the team in China if needed. ● First lesson - Try to remember everything you have learned in your TEFL-in-China training. The chances are you will have learned some different language games to use, so try using one of these as an icebreaker. ● Relax - the key thing is to try and be comfortable, confident and relaxed. Try to enjoy it! Classroom Sizes

Classroom Sizes in China vary from the UK, but typically, you should expect:

● Kindergarten – usually 20/30 pupils per class ● Primary through to High School - 50/60 per class

Larger class sizes bring their own challenges, but one good way of dealing with them is to encourage lots of group work and exercises! Moving to the Apartment

Once the TEFL-in-China training finishes, we will then get to work on moving you to your apartment. The team in China will try their best to place everybody as quickly as possible, though obviously some Student Teachers will be placed earlier than others.

The Apartment will either be provided by the placement school, in which case the rent is paid directly by Enfly, or it will be rented privately. If rented privately, Enfly Education will provide the Student Teacher with a monthly accommodation allowance of 2500RMB and will assist the Student Teacher in finding a suitable apartment. Most typical apartment in Chengdu cost between 1500-1800RMB per month.

If any of the Student Teachers wish to share an apartment with another Student Teacher, this can sometimes be arranged by the team in China and can be a convenient way to save some money each month.

Accommodation Allowance

The Accommodation Allowance where applicable for Student Teachers is 2500RMB. The team in China will help you to find an apartment privately. Typically, there will be three different situations the Student Teacher may encounter.

 Situation One - The placement school will provide the Student Teacher with an apartment, paid for by Enfly Education. In this instance, no Accommodation Allowance will be provided. Deposit of upto 1000RMB for damages will be deducted from first month’s bursary.  Situation Two - Enfly Education will co-operate with one particular Apartment company in the centre of Chengdu, that has around 30 apartments. Typical cost for the apartment here is 2200-2400RMB per month. Student Teacher pays deposit of 300-500RMB. Some of the apartments here can be shared. If you wish to share with another Student Teacher, you may be able to save more money on rent from the Accommodation Allowance. Student Teacher arranges travel to the placement school(s).  Situation Three - If no suitable apartments are available as above, or the Student Teacher wishes to live somewhere else, Enfly Education will assist in finding an Agency to provide an apartment. In this situation, Chinese landlord’s would normally require 1 month’s rent as deposit, as well as 3 month’s rent up front. The Agency may also require a Service Fee of up to one month’s rent. If this is the case, Enfly Education will loan the Student Intern the money, and deduct upto a maximum of 2500RMB per month from the Accommodation allowance.  Situation Four - For anybody who doesn’t need accommodation to be arranged, a house allowance of 2500RMB will be paid monthly. This only really applies to older teachers, or anyone who is already living in Chengdu.

Signature: 签字: b. Make sure that all articles and furnishings on the list are not damaged after your contract ends. c. The utility costs are calculated once the teacher starts living in the apartment and they are paid by the teacher himself/herself. d. Everyone needs to buy for their own bedding like pillows, duvets, bed sheets, etc. The average cost ranges from 100 to 300 RMB. e. The Student Teacher needs to pay a deposit of 1000RMB as well as paying the utility costs. The deposit will be refunded after checking that all furnishings in the inventory are intact and utility costs are paid in full. f. Internet. When the Student Teacher first moves in, they’ll need to ask Enfly to help to set up the internet. Enfly will contact China Telecom, who will arrange an appointment to install the internet, normally within 3 working days. Enfly will pay the installation fee, and the Student Teacher can choose either a monthly payment package (approx 90RMB) , or an upfront payment for 6 months (approx 540RMB). g. Student Teacher will usually be given 3 cards for the apartment, for gas, water and electricity. Teacher can pay for their bills at most Hong Qi Supermarket, or can ask for help from the security or building manager.

Apartment Location

Once the training has finished, you will be moved to an apartment somewhere within Chengdu (City or Satellite Towns). We try our best to place teachers within close proximity to at least 1-2 other teachers, though please be aware sometimes this may not always be possible. We encourage the Student Teachers to make friends during the training week and arrange times to visit each other and have some fun!

Please familiarise yourself with the size of Chengdu on Google Maps, to give you an idea of what to expect. Chengdu is a large city, with lots and lots going on.

We would ask you to try and be flexible with your choice of apartment. Chengdu is a quickly developing city, so there are some areas with fantastic new Skyscraper apartments, and other areas with apartments of a lower standard. The above should be the minimum of what you should expect.

Moving in:

When you move into the apartment, please complete the apartment checklist as above and also check that all taps etc are working.

One thing to be aware of is that sometimes the apartments may need cleaning when you move in. This is a cultural difference, as in the UK rented apartments are normally required to clean when you move out, however this isn’t the case in China. If your apartment needs a clean, please feel free to do this yourself, or contact the team in China if a deeper clean is required.

Another important thing to note would be regarding your utility bills. You are responsible for paying your monthly bills, and these can normally be topped up via card in your local shop.

Support from the team in China:

We are conscious that moving to your apartment is a big step and we will try our best to make things as easy as possible for you. This is a very busy time, both for you and for the girls in the office, so we ask for a little bit of mutual respect to help things run as smoothly as possible. If you have any problems, please contact the girls in the office and they’ll try to help:

● Acceptable things to contact the office about in relation to the apartment - problems with plumbing, dirty apartment that requires deep clean, not sure how to top up electricity, need to set up internet but can’t speak Chinese etc. ○ For these examples, the team in China will work to find the solution (e.g. call plumber, arrange cleaner etc) and a timely manner for you. ● Unacceptable things to contact the office about in relation to the apartment - wanting to be closer to specific friends, being jealous of other apartments. ○ We would ask you to try and be flexible regarding things like this. Though Chengdu is a big city, it is easy to travel around and you may find that people are not as far away from you as you would think. ● For emergencies it is fine to contact one of the girls in the office via WeChat, and they will always do their best to resolve any issues as quickly as possible. ● For any non-emergencies, the best way is to email the office directly and allow them to deal with it formally.

Payment a. We will pay your bursary through China Construction Bank. There is a cost for about 5RMB any payments above 5000RMB. b. If the card is lost, go to the nearest bank branch to report the loss and resubmit on time, and inform Enfly promptly. c. Ensure you inform Enfly if you change cards. d. The teacher will be responsible for any delay in payment if it’s been caused by card loss or card change that hasn’t been shared with Enfly on time.

Payment Dates a. First Payment Date: 15th April. This will be payment for March 1-31st. Every subsequent payment will fall on the 15th of the following month. If the school semester begins earlier than March 1st in 2017, you will also be paid for these days. b. After one month's service, Enfly will refund the Visa fee (as long as the Student Teacher has provided the receipt). b. Teachers will need to apply for all bursary payments through Enfly.

Apart from the weekly teaching plan, the student intern should return these kind of forms to Enfly after finish the work for current month. Please send back the form(s) between 1st to 5th every month which allows Enfly to have enough time to calculate your payment before the payday. For those who have 20 classes per week. You should return the following:
