Minutes of the meeting held on Monday 10th March, at Bardney Methodist Hall. Present: Elected Committee: K Ruane, K Walker, P Rennie, J Benton, D Letts Members: P Atkins, C Audis Apologies: D Miles, C Wilson 1 Minutes of the last meeting: . The Chairperson read the minutes and after a change to AOB, it should have read: June gave notice of the Bardney Chapel anniversary the speaker is from Epworth, these were signed as a true record. Christine Audis was welcomed into the group. 2 Matters Arising: . J Benton stated that she had nothing to respond to J Meewezen’s correspondence of last month Brother Oswald carving is to be treated with wood preservative another time, at a time to suit D Letts. 5 Websites: . Bardney 523 Southrey 56 BSC 96 6 Projects/Interests: . WWI-Soldiers who served-D Miles has no information on approximately half of the 125 named on the memorial. J Benton stated that Janis Smith’s grandfather had fought in WWI, and was brought back from Ireland. D Letts is to ask her for information. D Letts 7 Any Other Business: . D Miles and D Letts have agreed/offered to represent BHG at Woodhall Show on 18th May 2014 in the Heritage Marquee. D Miles will cover sugar beet factory and D Letts WWI board from the Open Churches display. J Benton showed a photo of Abbey crested ware bought in Bardney many years ago, which belongs to Eileen Smithson. She also produced a newspaper clipping entitled “A Lincolnshire Fairground Album” which showed members of the Denton and Angus families. D Letts will ask Philip Denton if he has any information. D Letts Is John Angus ancestor of fairground Angus family? D Miles and D Letts have readers’ tickets for the archives, so can visit anytime. P Atkins enquired whether or not we could have winter talks by visiting experts. As we have done this in the past with little success, it was decided that it might be discussed again as a future possibility. There is a large mound at the bottom of P Atkins’ garden; does anyone know what it might be? Chestnut homes have purchased another field for building on Horncastle Road. K Ruane will ask if it would be possible to field walk the site before they build. K Ruane Friends of Bardney Abbey 1. Could we do another field walk to try to locate earlier abbey? 2. JCTandBA Trust has given the go ahead for new fencing. 3. The signs are to be updated to look like the BAR ones and face the right direction. 4. A counter will be put on the gate to register number of visitors. 5. Hopefully an upkeep kit, comprising: weed killer, tools, etc. will be purchased. 6. St Oswald’s Day service to take place again this year. 7. Next year will hopefully be a large open day, “A Day at the Abbey”, with spinners and other traditional craftsmen and women taking part. 8.
