Activity - Find the slope of the roof of your house and the equation of the line on the coordinate plane.

1. Take a digital picture of the roof of your house and import it into iPhoto. 2. From iPhoto, click on - save - and save it to your desktop 3. Double click on the picture (the jpg) on your desktop 4. If necessary, zoom out so it is not too large 5. Under the heading "Edit" choose Copy 6. Open Geometer Sketchpad 7. Under the heading "Edit" choose Paste Picture 8. Place two points on the roof line and construct a line through them. 9. When the line of the roof is highlighted, under Measure, choose Slope. 10. Next, calculate the slope by hand using the two plotted points, and calculate the equation of your line in sketchpad. Type your equation in a text box. 11. Finally, calculate the slope (by hand) of a line perpendicular to your line and type that slope in another text box.
