For additional information about the RadiSys COM Express embedded computing modules and the CR100 carrier boards, refer to the Procelerant COM Express Reference Manual available in the COM Express pages of the RadiSys Web site. If you are designing a custom carrier board for your product, you may request a copy of the Procelerant Carrier Board Design Guidelines from your RadiSys account representative. Safety Notices Electrostatic Discharge WARNING This product contains static-sensitive components and should be handled with care. Failure to employ adequate anti-static measures can cause irreparable damage to components. Electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage can result in partial or complete device failure, performance degradation, or reduced operating life. To avoid ESD damage, the following precautions are strongly recommended. • Keep each module/PCB in its ESD shielding bag until you are ready to install it. • Before touching a module, attach an ESD wrist strap to your wrist and connect its other end to a known ground. • Handle the module only in an area that has its working surfaces, floor coverings, and chairs connected to a known ground. • Hold modules only by their edges and mounting hardware. Avoid touching PCB components and connector pins. For further information on ESD, visit www.esda.org. 5 COM Express Preface Q UICK START GUIDE Safety and information alerts Please pay attention to the following safety and information alerts in the manual. Failure to employ adequate anti-static measures can cause irreparable damage to components. Handle this product only when wearing a grounded wrist strap at a grounded work area. Additional precautions and ESD information are provided at www.radisys.com/esd. Step 1: Verify product model Check the RadiSys product codes on the Procelerant COM Express module, CR100 carrier board, and accessories to make sure you received the correct products for your application. Examples: CE760-1G, CE370-512, etc. ** The heat spreader functions as an interface between the COM Express module and an implementation-specific thermal solution. Heat spreaders have been found to decrease thermal performance compared to one-piece heatsinks, such as the CE-PHS, CE-PHS17, and CE-AHS. 7 Step 2: Prepare accessory components ATX power supply Use only an ATX12V-compliant power supply with the CR100 Flex ATX carrier board. An ATX P4 power supply with a 24-pin cable is recommended. A 20-pin cable can also be used. Tip Power supplies with 24-pin cables are labeled “BTX.” The power supply should be rated above 200 Watts with at least 12A output on the +12V rail. When multiple fans are used, additional amperage
