Do you enjoy singing in four-part harmony? When you go to musical theater do you wish that you were up on the stage rather than in the audience? The Old Mill Singers is getting ready for our spring concert series that will be performed at Ossining High School in June. Our theme this spring is “Hits from Billboard to Broadway.” We are an amateur chorus of men and women singing a mixed repertoire of classical and popular tunes. The Old Mill Singers was founded in 1970 as the Phelps Arts Society to provide music for hospital patients during the holiday season, and, over forty years later, it continues to perform in nursing homes, at Rosary Hill, at community events, and in public concerts twice a year. We welcome all interested singers – sopranos, altos, tenors and basses – and will be accepting new members through February. Formal auditions are not required, only the ability to sing in tune in a group. We rehearse at St. Paul's on The Hill (40 Ganung Drive) in Ossining on Tuesday evenings, starting at 7:30 P.M. Our spring rehearsals will continue every Tuesday evening at 7:30 PM through May. Visit us at www.oldmillsingers.org or call and leave a message at 917-318-8941. (Please mention the Old Mill Singers.)

The Ossining Story: A Bicentennial Celebration 1813–2013 is still available for purchase. This special-edition souvenir journal commemorated Ossining’s 200th birthday, honoring its past and present. Ossining became the first incorporated village in Westchester County in 1813, when it was still known as Sing Sing. The journal is the culmination of the work of many Ossining residents who cherish our village’s history. Its managing editor, Martha Mesiti, Town Historian and a lifelong resident, reached out to the organizations that comprise Ossining’s vibrant community to share their histories. Over 60 groups responded, including the Police and Fire Departments, houses of worship, educational groups, military groups, historical organizations, social and service groups, and more. Mesiti also commissioned articles of historic interest from local authors and historians, covering such topics as the village’s unique architecture, Sing Sing marble, Sing Sing prison, and historic personalities like the Old Leather Man. The 160-page book is only $10 a copy. Copies of the book are available at the Ossining Municipal Building (16 Croton Ave.). Copies may also be purchased online at the Village of Ossining Web site www.villageofossining.org.
