The U.S. Geological Survey, California Water Science Center is seeking to fill one student position located at 6000 J Street , Placer Hall, California State University, Sacramento CA.

DUTIES: Enters, manipulates, edits, and retrieves in multiple formats hydrologic data using basic functions of NWIS software programs and databases such as QWDATA, ADAPS, SWUDS, and QWDX. Performs simple quality assurance/quality control tasks on hydrologic data. Assists in assignment and review of metadata. Performs data tracking, database cleanup, QC, and QA as directed by NWIS DBA. Performs various developmental assignments using software programs such as GIS, ACCESS to INGRES, EXCEL, GOOGLE EARTH, and SNAPSHOT. Performs simple measurements of stage and discharge, water levels, and/or water quality parameters such as temperature, specific conductance, and pH. Observes and notes various hydraulic or environmental conditions. Performs routine data compilation and computation assignments designed to prepare material for publication and entry into various databases. Checks measurement for analyses and computation. Operates a motor vehicle.

TITLE and STARTING PAY: Hydrologic Technician (Data Management) GS-1316-03, $12.79 per hour.

WORK SCHEDULE: Part-time work during the school year may work full time during school vacations and summer. May require occasional travel.

QUALIFICATIONS:

For GS-03: Six months of general experience of any kind that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position; OR experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation OR one full year of successfully completed education above the high school level with courses related to the occupation, if required. OTHER FACTORS: Must be a U.S. Citizen. A valid California Driver’s License is required. Program requires half-time enrollment in school. Program requires a 2.0 GPA
