“Headline News” Round Table Discussion American Government

The following rubric will help you make the best grade possible for this assignment. Remember, this is a Summative Grade (Test).

Anyone absent on the day of the discussion will have to attend a make-up discussion that is scheduled for: Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at 3:00pm in room 2407.

Anyone unable to attend the Tuesday 11/1 make-up, will be required to turn in a research paper. The student will receive an “I” (incomplete) until research paper is graded.

Rubric:

1. Preparation-30/100 points FOR EACH HEADLINE, up to 60 points total. a. Materials: i. 4 articles total (2 per headline) 5 points each for 20 points total ii. Articles must be annotated (highlighted, underlined, use margins to comment) worth 7.5 points each for 30 points total iii. MLA formatted Works Cited Page (1 page is sufficient) worth 10 points total

2. Participation- 15/100 FOR EACH HEADLINE, up to 30 points total. a. Discussion: i. Be prepared to speak 3 TIMES for each HEADLINE. 5 points each, 30 points total. ii. Contribution to the discussion MUST be based on what you annotated PRIOR to the event. iii. Contribution should be clear, concise and an INTELLIGENT addition to the overall discussion.
