NATURE OF We are seeking a Zoning Inspector to provide planning, implementation WORK: and oversight of operations of the zoning enforcement function.

Under general supervision performs work of considerable difficulty in enforcement of zoning ordinances, codes, and conditions; performs related work as assigned.

TYPICAL DUTIES: (Illustrative Only) • plans, implements, and oversees the operations of the zoning enforcement function; • supervises and evaluates the work of the Code Enforcement Officers; • acts as departmental liaison with various agencies and officials regarding enforcement issues; • conducts field inspections to ensure compliance with zoning ordinances, plans and conditions; • negotiates compliance with involved parties; • identifies and takes action to resolve non-compliance; • prepares and maintains records and reports; • represents the County in the appeals process; • works with other County departments to enforce ordinances, plans and conditions; • participates in update and revision of County zoning ordinance.

Essential functions include: standing; walking; working with and around others including co-workers, customers and supervisor; dealing with interruptions; repetitive motions (hand/wrist) for computer work; vision acuity (near and far) for computer work; hearing and speech for ordinary communication on telephone and with customers; and touch (finger dexterity) computers, telephones and intake of plans.

MINIMUM Four years experience in code enforcement or related field; or any QUALIFICATIONS: combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

This position is non-exempt from overtime.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in zoning and code enforcement; possess strong customer service skills and have the ability to work with difficult customers.

KNOWLEDGE, Working knowledge of: SKILLS AND • principles and practices related to positive supervision; ABILITIES: • county zoning ordinances and plans; • Principles, practices and techniques of codes enforcement.

Ability to: • effectively supervise and evaluate the work of others; • interpret ordinances and provide accurate information to the public; • conduct research and make effective presentations; • communicate effectively orally and in writing; • establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public; • follow written and verbal instructions.
