6 Old City Core Public Realm Scoping Project – next steps

by Vicky Welchman, BCC

Main recommendations of BCC Public Realm Scoping Project related to Traffic, Clutter and Waste

Traffic:

 Corn Street: - Problems with proposed trial pedestrianisation of Corn Street. Info - Reason: recently approved planning application for Old Magistrates Court in Nelson Street requires closure of Christmas Street during construction period of about 2 years. - Christmas Street is part of traffic re-routing plan in proposed pedestrianisation scheme – particularly relevant to serve Law Courts in Small Street. - Alternative options currently being explored. One option is pedestrianisation of Corn Street initially only on weekends (when Law BCC asap Courts are closed) until completion of Old Magistrates Court construction work. - Animation programme for Corn Street important and under discussion. BCC asap - More info to follow from BCC. BCC asap  Other traffic/road improvements going ahead to plan: - The Pithay to be made one way down. BCC tbc - Broad Street/Corn Street junction, speed table. BCC tbc - St Stephen’s Street gateway improvements. BCC tbc De-cluttering:

 De-cluttering work has started by BCC, removing info points and other Info structures.  Further discussions to be held with Markets Manager and businesses re BCC asap best group approach.

Trade waste:

 Policy to be developed by BCC BCC tbc
