The Thematic Section shows their tree species composition in two different ways. The legend is placed at the beginning of each set of maps. If you are looking for an area near a town or village Go to the Index on page 153 and find the alphabetical list of settlements by English name. The Cyrillic name is also given along with the map page number and coordinates (latitude and longitude) where it can be found.     Master Program in Economic Growth, Innovation and Spatial Dynamics Russian Monotowns Delgir Maksimova [email protected] Abstract: Monofunctional towns of Russia represent the extreme case of specialized settlements where the socio-economic development mostly or fully depends on the performance of one or a few town-forming enterprises. This phenomenon obtained attention after the Soviet Union collapse, which has resulted in worsening of the socio-economic situation in monotowns. However, since the 2000s the differentiation in the development among monofunctional towns was observed. What can condition such differentiation? In this study an attempt to provide a new perspective, through which monotowns can be studied. The analysis is done in the step- wise manner and based on the developed data matrix and taxonomy of monotowns. Kemerovo Region, with the city of Kemerovo as the seat of regional government, is also known as Kuzbass, which in Russian stands for Kuznetsk [Coal] Basin (Kuznetsky ugolny bassein) – one of the world’s largest coalfields. Kemerovo Region and Kuzbass are mostly interchangeable in Russian, and are used so throughout this report. In some official references or documents cited in this report both names are used. This paper aims at providing a synthetic (semantic, social, cultural, historic) survey on the names used for the tourist and catering business entities in Kuzbass, with an attempt to discover the reason for naming trends in the region. Naming is one of the most ubiquitous and important activities in business sphere, pursuing a number of goals: (1) identifying and promoting the brand / image of a business entity; (2) making sure the business will function well because its name is alluring for clients, or the name is targeted efficiently; (3) the name renders the values and ideology of the company. Linguistically, the main ways to produce business or brand names are the following: abbreviations, shortenings and/or blends, associations, allusions / associations, rhyming, transonimization (using proper names of real or imaginary people for business names), using foreign words, significant numbers, quotations / allusions / alliterations / mythological elements. “Traditional” naming may exploit ancient elements (old-fashioned and outdated words, spelling, grammar, etc.). Naming in Kuzbass in tourist sphere does not rely heavily on mining concept, but rather exploits its regional exotics and a competitive differentiator. Recreational tourism in its naming promotes the concept of vast taiga spaces and pristine Siberian nature. 1 Introduction Kemerovo Region-Kuzbass is a classic example of the resource curse of modern civilization. Omelchenko The present paper is a sequel to a series of publications [1{5] devoted to issues of planning and analysis of networks of seismic observations. To this series, one can refer [2, 4], in which the basic definitions and concepts of the theory of planning of seismic networks needed in this paper are briefly discussed. Seismic observations in the Altai{Sayansk region, one of seismic-prone zones in Russia, are a part of the federal observations over natural and man-caused factors. The territory of the region in question makes more than 1:5 · 106 km2 includes 13 subjects of the Russian Federation and three border areas of the neighboring countries: Kazakhstan, China, Mongolia. Annually, instruments record a few thousands of seismic events from which approximately for one thousand earthquakes and for one and a half thousand industrial explosions. Coordinates, origin time, and energy are determined for these events. The quality of the information received depends on the instrumental equipment of points of observations, hardware and software of the center of gathering and processing data in Novosibirsk, as well as on the number and disposition of network stations. The beginning of the 21st century became a starting point for the Altai{ Sayansk region seismic network as concerns the work with the new instru- ments: in 2000, all the stations of the network became digital, equipped with Baikal-11 local product. Digital recording, as well as updating with new stations have demanded to estimate anew the capabilities of the network in terms of representativeness and the accuracy of definition of hypocenters parameters.
