Job Description

Role Business Manager - Secondary Reports to Director of Finance and Operations Grade Grade 8 Spinal Point 36 (£31,601) Hours of work 37 hours per week full time

Purpose To provide core Business Management support to up to three secondary schools as part of a cohesive Central Services function within Maiden Erlegh Trust. Scope Main contacts: Trust Staff responsibilities: Financial accountability: Accounting Manager, Trust None at present Some Finance Manager, Site Manager, Trust HR Manager, Local Academy Headteachers Accountabilities Management of all 3rd party contracts to ensure that the Trust can demonstrate best value for money across all secondary school procurement. This includes, but is not limited to:  Telecommunications  ICT Contracts (in association with the Network Manager)  Energy  Administrative  Site, Facilities, Maintenance (in association with the Site Manager)  Curriculum

Development of a robust schedule of 3rd party contracts across the secondary schools

Act as Health and Safety Officer for the secondary schools in conjunction with the Site Compliance Officer and Local Advisory Boards, ensuring H&S compliance at a local level and that all site and curriculum risk assessments are in place, monitored and updated

Monitor incidents and accidents and ensure the reporting of these is robust, and that any issues highlighted are dealt with in an appropriate timeframe

Maintain and review the asset register, facilities and management records for each secondary school

Further develop and maximise sources of additional income through e.g. lettings, services, sponsorship and fundraising to support the overall Trusts strategic financial plan

Ensure that local school policies are aligned to the Trust and are adhered to locally

Support the Director of Finance and Operations, as requested from time to time, in the development of business cases to secure grant funding

Work closely with the Trust Accounting Manager and Trust Finance Manager to help deliver a first class Business Management service to the schools

Any other duties that reasonably fall within the purview of the post which may be allocated by the Director of Finance and Operations after consultation with the post holder

Personal Attributes Knowledge and Experience  Demonstrable experience as a School Business Manager  Demonstrable experience in budget management  Knowledge of a range of computer applications including financial management systems  Knowledge of H&S, facilities and premises management  Experience of undertaking a range of administrative and technical duties Personal Qualities  Excellent interpersonal skills  Able to work on individual endeavour or as part of a team  Able to deal with ambiguity  Mission oriented, able to see the strategic view  A good sense of humour  Excellent organisational skills  Ability to handle sensitive information and issues in an appropriate manner

Skills & Abilities  Contribute effectively to school business planning  Able to develop and maintain efficient record keeping systems with consistency  Able to analyse and interpret complex information and make recommendations  Able to problem solve  The gravitas to negotiate ‘best value’ with suppliers and manage them appropriately  Ability to communicate with a range of audiences including colleagues, governors, and suppliers  Ability to manage own workload, prioritising effectively to meet deadlines whilst ensuring that lower priority work is kept up to date Organisational Chart Director of Finance and Operations
