MAN Efficientline - Maximum Transport Efficiency Even with Euro VI

MAN EfficientLine - maximum transport efficiency Munich even with Euro VI 04/06/2013

Rising diesel prices, increased pressure from the competition and stricter en- vironmental regulations pose major challenges to fleet operators. Customers MAN Truck & Bus must increase their commercial viability and reduce the Total Cost of Owner- Dachauer Straße 667 ship (TCO). MAN has responded to customer needs and is offering the Effi- 80995 Munich cientLine models for long-distance, as they are designed for fuel efficiency. Head of The particularly environmentally-friendly trucks have convinced both the in- Corporate Communications ternational trade press and customers. Thus the TGX EfficientLine already Dominique Nadelhofer has numerous international awards to its credit. The market success is high- Tel. +49 89 1580-2001 lighted by the impressive sales figures: a total of more than 15,000 MAN Effi- [email protected] www.mantruckandbus.com cientLine vehicles in Euro V and Euro VI versions have been sold.

Efficient long-haul transport solutions save up to three litres of diesel fuel

MAN EfficientLine now provides substantial fuel savings even with Euro VI and reduces CO2 emissions. All efficiency-boosting features have been in- corporated, so that the fuel consumption advantage will be retained in full. This means, for example, a reduction in consumption of up to 3 litres per 100 kilometres even for the TGX EfficientLine compliant with Euro VI, compared to a standard truck. Each TGX EfficientLine which replaces a conventional long-distance haulage truck, therefore saves up to 4,500 litres of diesel or 12 tonnes of CO2 per year. In addition to the basic model, a two-axle semi-trailer tractor with an XLX sized cab, there are TGS and TGX versions available with three axles, larger or smaller cabs and different suspension variants with EfficientLine packages. MAN also offers EfficientLine packages for use of the TGS in long-distance transport. From July 2013 onwards, the emergency braking assistance system, MAN Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), will also be available for the new EfficientLine models.

The new TGX EfficientLine compliant with Euro 6 is also equipped with MAN TeleMatics®, the efficient solution for fleet control, fleet management and lo- gistics. The hardware is pre-installed. Customers can try out the Telematics software free of charge for four months and convince themselves of the ad-

More efficient transport by means of optimum vehicle configuration

MAN EfficientLine stands for particularly efficient transportation, irrespective of whether the long haul truck TGX EfficientLine 4x2 is selected, or a vehicle is equipped with an EfficientLine package.

Since aerodynamic drag plays a significant role in fuel consumption, special attention was paid to optimal aerodynamic configuration of the vehicle. Ac- cessories such as sun visors and compressed-air horns were omitted. Cor- rect setting of the spoiler and the aerodynamic chassis cladding provide ad- ditional help in saving fuel. Setting the driving speed limiter to 85 km/h in- stead of 89 km/h reduces the rolling resistance by approx. 10%. In addition energy tires are used. These tires reduce rolling resistance and fuel con- sumption by virtue of their special material composition and type of structure.

The high increase in efficiency cannot however be obtained merely by im- proving individual components. It is rather the result of MAN's development competence when it comes to optimising the entire power train. The various components such as common-rail diesel engines, low-loss power train com- ponents and the intelligent gear-change strategy of the MAN TipMatic® are all matched to one another to form a perfectly coordinated unit. The alternat- or with 120 A has a four per cent higher energy efficiency and has a longer service life. Daytime driving lights require only about a quarter of the power of halogen dipped beams. The MAN Air-Pressure -Management (APM) turns the air compressor off automatically when it is not required, and thus de- creases the loss of power in the compression of air. Compressed-air tank, fuel tank and wheel rims of aluminium all contribute to downscaling vehicle weight. However, an efficient driving style will also help to significantly re- duce fuel consumption. This is why customers are given a MAN ProfiDrive® coupon upon purchasing a vehicle: Experienced MAN-specialists provide training in particularly economic and fuel efficient driving in one theory mod- ule and one practical module.

The Transport Efficiency Program by MAN Truck & Bus

The amount of transport and traffic on Europe's roads continues to rise. At the same time, the long-term dwindling of energy resources is making transport increasingly more expensive. As one of the world’s leading manufacturers of buses and trucks, MAN Truck & Bus makes an important contribution to the con- tinued improvement of transport efficiency. MAN offers a comprehensive efficiency program to reduce total cost of ownership. Transport efficiency, consolidated in the fields of technology, service, the driver and future expertise, protects the environment and represents added value for our customers. www.blog.transport-efficiency.com

The MAN Group is one of Europe's leading industrial players in transport-related engineering, with annual revenues of approximately €15.8 billion in 2012. MAN is a supplier of trucks, buses, diesel engines, turbo machinery and special transmissions and has around 54,300 employ - ees worldwide. MAN's business areas are all leaders in their markets.
