3) Teacher will hold up the six vegetables, one at a time, and then pass each vegetable around the circle for students to touch, smell, see and taste. We will discuss the names of the vegetables and talk about how they look, feel, smell, etc.

4) Teacher will read the book, “Planting a Rainbow.” While reading, teacher will point out the vegetables that are being discussed and ask the children to name them.

5) Teacher will split the students into two small groups. Group 1 will stay on the carpet and work together to sort the six vegetables by color. Group 2 will move to the tables. They will each be given a piece of white paint paper and some paint. They will use the vegetables we discussed to make a creative painting. A teacher will be with each group to assist whenever needed.

6) The groups will then switch. Group 2 will sort and Group 1 will paint.

Assessment/Closure:

When both groups are finished, the students will all return to the carpet for a game of vegetable bingo. Each child will be given a vegetable bingo card and six bingo markers. As the teacher names each vegetable, students will place a marker on the picture of that vegetable. The teacher will walk around and observe as the children play, making notes of which children may be having difficulty.
