[4308-2] 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 10 11 TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF 12 TRANSPORTATION NAME THE INTERSECTION LOCATED 13 AT THE JUNCTION OF UNITED STATES HIGHWAY 17A 14 AND THE SANGAREE PARKWAY IN BERKELEY COUNTY 15 “LANCE CORPORAL TODD ALVIN BENJAMIN 16 INTERSECTION” AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS 17 OR SIGNS AT THIS INTERSECTION THAT CONTAIN THE 18 WORDS “LANCE CORPORAL TODD ALVIN BENJAMIN 19 INTERSECTION”. 20 21 Whereas, Lance Corporal Todd Alvin Benjamin was born on May 22 31, 1988, in Corning, New York, the son of Todd and Dana 23 Benjamin of Summerville and his father-in-law and motherinlaw 24 Edward and Nancy Pierce of North Charleston, and tragically died 25 on March 30, 2010; and 26 27 Whereas, Lance Corporal Benjamin was the devoted husband of 28 his wife, Catherine Pierce Benjamin, and was adored by his two 29 siblings, Philip M. Benjamin and Charlotte A. Benjamin; and 30 31 Whereas, he was a 2006 graduate of Northside Christian School 32 and attended Charleston Southern University; and 33 34 Whereas, he was a patient care giver with Nightingale’s Nursing 35 and Attendants and an active member of the Coastal Shores Baptist 36 Church; and 37 38 Whereas, Lance Corporal Benjamin served his country with honor 39 and distinction as a member of the United States Marine Corps and 40 completed a combat tour of duty in Iraq; and 41

[4308] 3 1 Whereas, it is fitting and proper for the members of the General 2 Assembly to forever recognize Lance Corporal Benjamin’s 3 gallantry and bravery by naming a highway intersection in his 4 honor. Now, therefore, 5 6 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate 7 concurring: 8 9 That the members of the General Assembly request that the 10 Department of Transportation name the intersection located at the 11 junction of United States Highway 17A and the Sangaree Parkway 12 in Berkeley County “Lance Corporal Todd Alvin Benjamin 13 Intersection” and erect appropriate markers or signs at this 14 intersection that contain the words “Lance Corporal Todd Alvin 15 Benjamin Intersection”. 16 17 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 18 the Department of Transportation. 19 XX 20
