Course Description: Whether we realize it or not, each of us makes numerous decisions each day that are influenced by economic principles. In essence, economics is one method for studying human behavior and is a unique method for analyzing how individuals and groups make decisions to best satisfy their wants and needs. Simply put, economics is the study of how choices are made. Through a general introduction of this social science, we will develop a clearer understanding of how economic principles impact you, the nation, and the world as a whole. In this 9 week course, you will be asked to think about and analyze human behavior through a new lens. You will be expected to actively participate to promote your understanding of economic concepts. This will be accomplished through class discussions, large and small group discussions, simulations, articles, and class projects. The emphasis of this class will be to promote critical thinking through our study of economics. Units of Study Unit 1 Personal Finance (8/3 – 8/12) Test & Project Unit 4 Macroeconomics (9/8 – 9/18) Test {SB} Unit 2 Economic Fundamentals (8/13 – 8/21) Test Unit 5 International (9/28 – 10/9) Project Unit 3 Microeconomics (8/24 – 9/4) Test EOC/FINAL (10/12 & 10/13)

Student Work Expectations & Classroom Policies Late Work Policy: All assignments are expected to be turned in on the day in which it is due, all assignments are due at the start of class. Late work will be penalized: late work will be accepted for 80% credit during the current unit and for 50% credit thereafter. It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to check the make-up work folder for all missing assignments. Please consult the board, the make-up folder, and the class blog. Students will receive "zeroes" on missed assignments and tests. One extra day for each day of absence is allotted for make-up work.
Plagiarism: All work completed for this course must be your own work. This includes major and minor assignments. Both (s)he who plagiarizes and (s)he whose work is copied will receive a zero; your parents will be called; you will be referred to the appropriate administrator.
