STAGE I – DESIRED RESULTS LESSON TOPIC: BIG IDEAS: Data Analysis M11.E.1.1 Appropriately display and/or use data in problem-solving settings.
M11.E.2.1 Use measures of central tendency to describe a set of data.
M11.E.3.1 Apply probability and/or odds to practical situations.
M11.E.3.2 Apply counting techniques in problem- solving settings.
M11.E.4.1 Make predictions using data displays and probability.
UNDERSTANDING GOALS (CONCEPTS): ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS: Students will understand: What does each measure of central tendency mean? How to interpret a set of data. When is each measure of central tendency most appropriate? What information can I obtain from a graph? How to interpret different types of graphs. What information can I predict from a graph? The difference between mean, median, and How will probability help me find information? mode. How to calculate central tendency. How to accurately make predictions based on available data.
VOCABULARY: STUDENT OBJECTIVES (COMPETENCIES/OUTCOMES): Central tendency, mean, median, mode, quartile, IQR, . SWBAT: probability, extrapolation 1. Accurately interpret data. 2. Read different types of graphs. 3. Calculate mean, median, and mode. 4. Make accurate predictions base on available information. 5. Use probability to make predictions. STAGE II – ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE PERFORMANCE TASK: OTHER EVIDENCE: Students will participate in class discussions, guided practice, in class examples, discussion, classwork, board work, open computer work, and activities ended assessments, graphic organizers, daily warm ups, homework, A+ and, unit tests, quizzes, and other formative assessments.
