Database application development, implementation and management using primarily Filemaker Pro, SAS and Access for a cancer screening program of former nuclear workers funded by the DOE. Statistical analysis using SAS for epidemiological and other medical research. Environmental research on air transport of toxic pollutants, including dioxin, pesticides and PCBs. Environmental and economic research on the maquiladora factories in the Mexico-US border region.

Design and construction of a database system for Argentine economic and population data. Development of a menu-driven user interface in EXCEL for both IBM and MAC PCs. Conducted statistical analysis in SAS in order to assess government policies affecting the competitiveness of the Argentine economy.

Conducted research on the Argentine economy and MERCOSUR, analyzing the implementation of neoliberal economic policies during the Menem administration. The main focus was on trade liberalization in the context of MERCOSUR, financial deregulation and privatizations.

Department of International Economic and Social Analysis. Development of an international macroeconomic database system in C for PC users. Processing and cleaning of industrial, energy and population data for the Secretariat database. Conducted research on the impact of worldwide industrial shifts on energy consumption and production and subsequent impact on greenhouse gases. Development of a UNDP database in DBASE for evaluation and information extraction from Latin American project reports.

7/84-9/89 Research Assistant
Design and development of a multi-year industrial database for the U.S. used for the book Measuring the Wealth of Nations by Shaikh and Tonak (see Appendix A). Tasks involved processing of BEA, NIPA and BLS data and extensive manipulations were carried out in Fortran, GAUSS and Excel in order to make the Input-Output tables compatible with Capital Stock and Depreciation data as well as NIPA data. Statistical and econometric analysis was conducted in several programs: SAS, SPSS, RATS and TSP.

Consultant for several projects researching labor, race and gender issues. Conducted analysis of income, wage, and employment trends among different demographic groups in New York City using Census data from 1960, 1970 and 1980. Empirical testing was conducted in order to examine the theoretical plausibility of Human Capital Theory as compared to Labor Segmentation Theory. (SPSS, SPSSX, SAS, JCL, VMS on mainframes and mini-computers).

FIELDS OF CONCENTRATION Political Economy, Econometrics
DISSERTATION: COMPETITION vs. MONOPOLY: AN INPUT-OUTPUT ANALYSIS OF THE U.S.: 1958-1977. An assessment of various theories of competition and monopoly was carried out followed by an analysis of previous empirical research. Employing Input-Output tables and other data sources at the 3-digit level, industrial profit rates and markups for the U.S. economy were calculated for the period 1958-77. An econometric analysis of the relationships between profitability, concentration, and entry barriers was then conducted across industries and time.
