Job Title: Dive Facilities Manager

GENERAL DESCRIPTION Dive Facilities Manager is responsible for the dive locker, Public Safety Annex, including the equipment and systems contained within, and the Underwater Training Area (UTA). This position is also responsible for the college owned diving equipment for the Diving Business and Technology degree courses and Diving Safety non-credit and contract courses. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director, Dive Program.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: 1. Maintains strict inventory control of all life support and training equipment in the dive locker. 2. Orders diving equipment as needed. Obtains applicable repair manuals for maintenance of FKCC diving equipment, ensures repairs to diving systems and equipment are maintained in appropriate logs as required by FKCC diving regulations. 3. Maintains a current working knowledge of equipment repair, air system testing, and current diving procedures. Keeps the Director informed of their implications to the program. 4. Conducts quarterly air analysis on high and low pressure compressors and maintains air quality to ANSI CGA 7.1-1989 for Grade E. 5. Inspects high pressure scuba cylinders annually both visually and by eddy current in accordance with CGA 6 and 6.1 guidelines and ensures all flasks are hydro tested every 5 years. 6. Overhauls all Thermo type valves for scuba cylinders every five years. 7. Responsible for the oxygen system operation, supply ordering, maintenance as well as ensuring the filling and analysis of oxygen and nitrox cylinders used for training. Ensures that all equipment that is exposed to 100% oxygen is cleaned for oxygen service. 8. Conducts monthly, quarterly and annual maintenance & repair on Surface-Air-Supplied (SAS) masks and helmets. 9. Conducts periodic maintenance and repair of full-face mask equipment. 10. Inspects and repairs side block assemblies for SAS and full-face mask scuba bailout systems. 11. Conducts annual hydro test of SAS breathing air umbilicals and maintains appropriate logs. 12. Calibrates gauges on SAS rack boxes and recompression chamber every six months. 13. Conducts daily, monthly and annual maintenance on high and low air compressors. Monitors and changes oil and breathing air filters on systems as required. 14. Ensures all cylinders and banks are filled for all anticipated courses. 15. Maintains oxygen, medical kit and AED emergency medical response equipment in accordance with 29CFR1910 Subpart T and EM 385-1-1 and ensures any expired or depleted items are refilled. 16. Maintains and conducts communication troubleshooting on communication tether lines and umbilicals, AMRON & OTS communication control boxes, microphones and headphones for both wireless and wired communications. 17. Completely overhauls & ultrasound cleans scuba regulators annually and verifies performance using magnehelic and intermediate pressure gauges. Inspects each unit weekly and replaces hoses and gauges as necessary. 18. Inspects buoyancy compensators weekly and overhauls dump valves and low pressure inflator mechanisms as needed. 19. Maintains wet and dry suits and conducts repairs to include torn fabric repair and neck and wrist seal replacement on dry suits. 20. Conducts routine operation and maintenance on the remote operated vehicle (ROV) and the side scan sonar. 21. Inspects high and low pressure lines, control panels and volume tanks for leaks and replaces lines, gauges or valves as required. Page 2 22. Performs underwater maintenance of the UTA. Installs educational equipment as needed and oversees outside repairs or installation. 23. Maintains current certifications in diving equipment repair with major diving equipment manufacturers. 24. Coordinates the use of the UTA for personnel conducting the “Atocha Experience”. 25. At the direction of the Director, implements FKCC Diving Safety policies and maintains close liaison with other departments requiring diving services for research projects and training, as well as contractors utilizing the schools diving facilities. 26. Required to attend spring Graduation/Commencement ceremony and staff conference days. 27. Attends training as required. 28. Other related duties as assigned. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:  Some formal dive training required. An Associate’s degree in Diving Business and Technology or equivalent from an accredited institution preferred.  Formal training in SAS diving required.  Three years experience in diving equipment and air system repair and operation required, five years preferred.  Three years commercial work diving experience required, five years preferred.  High degree of ability and skill in the repair and maintenance of SCUBA and surface-air-supplied diving equipment and its supporting technology, including underwater communications, underwater tools and research devices, etc. Experience and knowledge of Kriby Morgan and Intersperio dive systems preferred.  Ability to supervise student work/study and lab technicians working in the dive facility.  Knowledge of applicable regulations to diving to include: Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 29 CFR 1910 Subpart T, Association of Diving Contractors (ADC) Consensus Standards for Commercial Diving and Underwater Operations, Department of Transportation (DOT) 49 CFR 180, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers EM 385-1-1 Safety and Health Requirements Manual, Compresses Gas Association (CGA) Guidelines: C-1, C-6, C-6.1, C-6.2, C-5, C-10, P-5 and G-4.1 and HAZMAT training requirements.  Knowledge of oxygen, air high and low pressure fittings, valves and plumbing.  Knowledge of scuba repair work stations and flow bench operation as well as common scuba equipment repair tools.  Ability to organize functional spaces in an orderly manner and to determine the proper storage requirements for training equipment.  Skills in working with individuals and groups in a tactful and courteous manner.  Ability to deal with a stressful environment involving life support equipment.  Knowledge of procedures, reports, and various data required by the Director and FKCC.  Skills in verbal and written communication on all levels for diverse groups.  Knowledge of Microsoft Office computer applications. (A comparable amount of training, education or experience may be substituted for the above minimum qualifications)

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS  Current Dive Master certification required, Instructor certification in by a nationally recognized agency preferred.  Certified as an enriched air gas blender.  Factory certified to repair scuba equipment, Oceanic certification preferred.  Factory certified to repair SAS masks and helmets, Kirby Morgan certification preferred.  Factory certified to repair full-face masks and regulators, Interspiro certification preferred.
