Romano Fattorossi Sandra Lischi Direttori Mostra INVIDEO 12 ❙ Seductions It may seem a luxury to speak about seductions in uncertain times like the present, in these geographies overwhelmed by wars and natural disasters aggravated by negligence and human irresponsibility. Yet this year’s works, meetings and events speak to us in some way of attractions and desire, they sing and enchant us making us think and offer many different types of seduction. The seduction of the gaze that changes and of the metamorphoses of the forms, is still very much alive and powerful. The seduction exercised by technology on reality and that unstoppable one of change. And, outside the metaphor, the more classic one, of bodies, senses, sexes, encounters, attraction and fascination, including in the form of dance, of gestures, of postures. And the heart-breaking seduction of nostalgia. If all this emerges and clearly prevails in the works of our international selection, in the events it appears like a hidden thread that connects themes and meetings: the seduction exercised by the cinema (Kubrick, Maya Deren) in the video music performances by Matias Guerra and the Karmachina; that of the avant-gardes of yesterday and of today in the Peruvian selection; the section beyond the seduction of gender and negated identity, in the works by Giovanni Coda and Carlos Motta. And love that pervades the very tender, auto-ironic and tragic portrait of Piergiorgio Welby. But also the irresistible call of the many true stories, in the audiovisual reportages of the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (L’Aquila branch); the seductive games with the more observant spectator in artistic videogames (the meeting with Roberto Cappai) and the fascination of the short form in the selection from the glorious festival of Clermont-Ferrand; the bodies seduced by unconsciousnesses, including technological, in the corpus of works of Alessandro Amaducci. And, above all, the seduction with which INVIDEO has always been true to offering each year a programme prepared with love: that of being able to imagine other worlds, in other ways. • Ghent, Belgium) Creates Photos, Drawings, Sculptures, and Video Work
ELKE ANDREAS BOON Elke Andreas Boon (Ghent, Belgium) creates photos, drawings, sculptures, and video work. From these she makes installations, in which she confronts the various works with one another. The base of Boon’s work is formed by her innate fascination with people, their emotions and uncertainties. As an artist, her power lies in locating difficult to define human sensitivities, laying them bare, and raising them to a level of aesthetic awareness. Her work couples a poetic and escapist imagination with a raw vision on our human condition. By assembling her photos, drawings, videos, and sculptures in the same space, Elke Andreas creates an environment where hyper-individualistic feelings are sublimated into a sense of ephemeral beauty. The work thus bears witness to a very personal sensibility. Due to a constant scanning of the conflict zones that lie between individual and community, the artist touches a very painful, sensitive spot with many people. The insights Boon creates through her work are not easily interpreted. Her work is not the illustration of an idea, but the result of multiple and diverse impulses that form an ambiguous whole. For Elke Andreas Boon, artistry is a radical choice for freedom, an attempt to go beyond the tethering of social structures. Thanks to her imagination and rebellious attitude towards life, she succeeds in challenging rusted patterns, generating new insights on what it is to be human.
