news For Immediate Release Media Contact: Angela Breer 316-518-7117, [email protected] 2016 Wichita Heart Ball Volunteer Leadership and Sweetheart Class Announced Annual event to be held February 20, 2016 at Drury Plaza Hotel Broadview WICHITA, KS, Tuesday, August 11, 2015 – The American Heart Association is pleased to announce the selection of volunteer leadership and the incoming class of high school sophomores participating in the highly regarded Sweetheart Program for the 2016 Wichita Heart Ball. The annual black-tie event celebrates the energy, passion and commitment of donors, healthcare providers, community leaders, sponsors, volunteers and survivors to raise funds for lifesaving research and education. Funds raised during the event support the fight against cardiovascular diseases – the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States each year. Over the past five years, the American Heart Association has invested more than $2.6 million in 21 studies in Kansas. Last year in Kansas alone, $1.1 million was given for seven new and continuing studies. “The Heart Ball would not be possible without our volunteer leadership and Sweethearts that raise important funds to support our lifesaving mission. The Sweethearts learn important life skills during the program and we’re excited for this year’s class to begin,” said Metro Executive Director, Nancy Duling. 2016 Volunteer Leadership The 2016 Wichita Heart Ball is chaired by Mr. Brian Heinrichs (INTRUST Bank) and Mrs. Joy Heinrichs. 2016 Sweethearts Class The American Heart Association’s Sweetheart Program provides an opportunity for young women entering their sophomore year of high school to experience volunteering while learning more about advocacy, fundraising and how to prevent and fight heart disease and stroke by participating in activities focused on these areas. -

The K-Pop Wave: an Economic Analysis
The K-pop Wave: An Economic Analysis Patrick A. Messerlin1 Wonkyu Shin2 (new revision October 6, 2013) ABSTRACT This paper first shows the key role of the Korean entertainment firms in the K-pop wave: they have found the right niche in which to operate— the ‘dance-intensive’ segment—and worked out a very innovative mix of old and new technologies for developing the Korean comparative advantages in this segment. Secondly, the paper focuses on the most significant features of the Korean market which have contributed to the K-pop success in the world: the relative smallness of this market, its high level of competition, its lower prices than in any other large developed country, and its innovative ways to cope with intellectual property rights issues. Thirdly, the paper discusses the many ways the K-pop wave could ensure its sustainability, in particular by developing and channeling the huge pool of skills and resources of the current K- pop stars to new entertainment and art activities. Last but not least, the paper addresses the key issue of the ‘Koreanness’ of the K-pop wave: does K-pop send some deep messages from and about Korea to the world? It argues that it does. V Olomouci dne Podpis Anotace Práce se zabývá hudebním žánrem k-pop, historií jeho vzniku, umělci, jejich rozvojem, a celkovým vlivem žánru na společnost. Snaží se přiblížit tento styl, který obsahuje řadu hudebních, tanečních a kulturních směrů, široké veřejnosti. Mimo samotnou podobu a historii k-popu se práce věnuje i temným stránkám tohoto fenoménu. V závislosti na dostupnosti literárních a internetových zdrojů zpracovává historii žánru od jeho vzniku až do roku 2020, spolu s tvorbou a úspěchy jihokorejských umělců. Součástí práce je i zpracování dvou dotazníků. Jeden zpracovává názor české veřejnosti na k-pop, druhý byl mířený na českou k-pop komunitu a její myšlenky ohledně tohoto žánru. Abstract This master´s thesis is describing music genre k-pop, its history, artists and their own evolution, and impact of the genre on society. It is also trying to introduce this genre, full of diverse music, dance and culture movements, to the public. -

This research focused on how three agencies – the government, public broadcasting, and the culture industry – have negotiated their relationships in the process of globalization, and how the power dynamics of these three production sectors have been influenced by Korean society’s politics, economy, geography, and culture. The importance of the national media system was identified in the (re)production of the Korean Wave phenomenon by examining how public broadcasting-centered media ecology has control over the development of the popular music culture within Korean society. The Korean Broadcasting System (KBS)’s weekly show, Music Bank, was the subject of analysis regarding changes in the culture of media production in the phase of globalization. In-depth interviews with media professionals and consumers who became involved in the show production were conducted in order to grasp the patterns that Korean television has generated in the global expansion of local cultural practices. -

Concurrent Session 1 并行会议一 Research on West-East Reciprocal Learning in Classroom & Curriculum 课堂与课程设置中的互惠学习 Concurrent 1A: Students’ Mathematics Learning 分组会议 1A: 数学学习 Juan Yu Hubei University of Education, China A Research on Learning Difficulties and Coping Strategies in Mathematics for Taiwan and Mainland Middle School Students This is a reciprocal learning research from Taiwan to solve Mathematics learning difficulties for mainland students in China. Based on the learning difficulties and the corresponding coping strategies in mathematics for middle-school students in Taiwan and analyzed the variations with different demographic variables. The research was conducted through questionnaire survey totally 1,020 middle school students participated in the survey, and 999 valid questionnaires were collected. The major findings of research are as follows: 1. The level of learning difficulties of mathematics for students of middle schools was close to mediocre level. The students’ scores on “personal factors” respond the highest, but students’ scores on “school factors” respond the lowest. 2. There were significant differences in learning difficulties of mathematics of middle school students with different demographic variables. 3. When students encounter learning difficulties in mathematics, they adopt “active coping” as coping strategy, followed by “seeking supports” and “emotional coping”; however, “avoidance” is adopted less than others. 4. There were significant differences in the coping strategies used by the students who have learning difficulties in math with different demographic variables. 5. Learning difficulties and coping strategies have significant correlation. The research findings show the overall learning difficulties of middle school students is medium (mean= 2.42). Among these factors, the mean score of personal factors shows the highest (mean= 2.67), while the mean score of school factors show the lowest (mean= 2.24). -
