Subject: Smith Brothers / Nick Taylor Scholarship

In 2012 the Smith Brothers family was deeply moved by the news that former employee, Nick Taylor, was killed while serving the United States in Afghanistan. Nick was a member of the Indiana National Guard, planning to attend college upon his return from active duty. In honor of Nick and the extended Taylor family, Smith Brothers has established the Smith Brothers/Nick Taylor Scholarship.

In 2014, Smith Brothers Furniture awarded scholarships to local students with association to Smith Brothers Furniture: These were: Scholars H.S. College major Collin Affolder, SA Bethel College Accounting Erica Bluhm AC Huntington University Elementary Education

Announcement for 2014-2015 seniors: This scholarship is for graduating high school students who will be attending a post-secondary college in the fall. Multiple scholarships will be awarded in the amount of (up to) $1,000 each. Students of Smith Brothers employees will be given priority in awarding these scholarships. In the event that no children of Smith Brothers employees meet eligibility requirements for this scholarship, the order of preference will be 1) South Adams students 2) Adams County students.

This scholarship is based on students who exhibit good citizenship, are active volunteers in the community they reside, show participation and leadership in organizations they are involved in, such as school activities, church, 4-H, FFA, school clubs, sports, etc. A minimum of grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.

Smith Brothers is partnering with the Adams County Community Foundation (ACCF) on the administration of this scholarship. They will be handling scholarship application, distribution, collection, evaluation and notification of awards. This will allow an unbiased view of applications.

Scholarship applications are now available in the Smith Brothers Human Resources Office or you can request an electronic copy by emailing [email protected] or [email protected] .

Applications must be completed and submitted to the ACCF offices by Thursday, Feb 5, 2015 by 4PM. This due date coincides with the due date of all ACCF Scholarship applications. Students who wish to be considered will need to submit Proof of Association with Smith Brothers Furniture. (added: Feb 12, 2015 Note: An essay is required with this scholarship process.
