INTRODUCTION The fauna of noctuoid moths (the families Erebidae and Noctuidae) of Kazakhstan is still poorly studied. Only the fauna of West Kazakhstan has been studied satisfactorily (Gorbunov 2011). On the faunas of other parts of the country, only fragmentary data are published (Lederer, 1853; 1855; Aibasov & Zhdanko 1982; Hacker & Peks 1990; Lehmann et al. 1998; Benedek & Bálint 2009; 2013; Korb 2013). In contrast to the West Kazakhstan, the fauna of noctuid moths of East Kazakhstan was studied inadequately. -

Müller Abstract The Lebanon and Anti-Lebanon ridges are located in the middle of a narrow “Mediterranean ecozone” corridor stretching along the Levantine coast. Both ridges are high enough to feature a complete range of altitude zones, which includes an alpine tragacanth belt (> 2000 m a.s.l.). The southernmost part of the Anti-Lebanon ridge is situated in the northernmost part of Israel. Among the 548 Israeli Noctuidae species, 106 species (21%) occur only in this small mountainous area. Among them, 17 are endemic and the populations of the remaining 89 species are at the edge of their distribution range. -

Noctuoidea are the largest superfamily of Lepidoptera which have not yet fully investigated in Iran. In order to inventories such important group, faunistic studies on the families Erebidae, Nolidae and Euteliidae were made by light traps mainly in the three Iranian provinces of Fars, Khuzestan and Khorasan-e-Razavi during 2009-2011. Totally, 42 taxa belonging to 26 genera and 7 subfamilies were collected. Among these, one species – Drasteria kusnezovi (John, 1910) – is newly reported for the Iranian fauna, together with 23 new provincial records. For all species, illustrations of adults and their genitalia are given with remarks. KEY WORDS: fauna, Noctuoidea, new record, Drasteria, distribution. W iltshire The following is an annotated list of a number of Noctuidae recently submitted to me for study. For the most part these moths were captured more recently than those taken by German entomologists which I listed in some of my earlier works about Afghanistan, but as one or two examples taken in the previous decade were reincluded in the material now submitted to me, I have mentioned them again. All subfamilies in the group Quadrifinae are represented except the Plusiinae which were sent elsewhere. Sub-family: JAS PI DIINAE Eublemma arcuinna Hübner ssp. argillacea Tausch. Structurally this species cannot be separated generically from other Porpbyrinia species, but its formal transfer can be left till the whole genus is revised. Porpbyrinia ostrina Hübner As in a previous collection from Afghanistan which I have studied, the series of this wide spread species contains, in addition to normal forms with variable coloration and span of 18—20 mm, other larger forms of rather dull, suffused dark coloration and a span of 24—25 mm, which I have seen from no other country. -

Резюме: В настоящей работе приводятся сведения о 84 видах чешуекрылых ноктуологического комплекса, собранных нашей экспедицией в Таджикистане в 2011 году (Erebidae: 7 видов; Nolidae: 1 вид; Euteliidae: 1 вид; Noctuidae: 75 видов). 28 видов впервые приводятся для этой территории. In 2011 (13th-26th July) my friends, and myself, we participated in an entomological expedition to the Tajik Republic (about this expedition see Atalanta 43: 169-172). Here we report about the Noctuoidea species collected during this trip. The number of articles on the Noctuoidea fauna of Tajikistan is very low: GRUM-GRSHIMAÏLO (1890), FORSTER & ROSEN (1940), SHCHETKIN (1963, 1965, etc.), HACKER & PECks (1990), LEHMANN et al. (1998). Much more papers of the studied region do not exist, so the overall view (including zoogeography) of the Heterocera fauna is still very incomplete. Additional data can be extracted from numerous taxonomic papers (for example, in Esperiana, Atalanta, Nota lepidopterologica, etc.). -

A short preliminary report of the monitoring of the Lepidoptera fauna of the Jabal Moussa biosphere area and adjacent areas in Jaakko Kullberg The research area and methods We monitored the Lepidoptera fauna of Jabal Moussa (see the map) and its neighboring valleys during 24.5. – 9.6.2012. During expedition the weather was rather tricky during nights and in the beginning of the expedition temperature minimum was often less than +10 degrees in the valley sides and we did not have warmer nights (+20C degrees) at all. Therefore the size of the catch was very variable – cold nights only some dozens of specimens came to light and during warmer nights thousands of specimens. As the weather greatly affects to the insect flight, we saw more convenient and efficient to move also secondary places in the hope of more favorable weather conditions by using car, than risk the night by climbing up the mountain with heavy equipment and thus making us vulnerable to changing weather. We several times changed our plans just before dark accordingly to changing weather. Choosing opposite mountain slope or top instead of Jabal Moussa can be seen acceptable as it is fact that most of the species are common between neighboring mountain slopes and that moths are flying up and down between the valleys and mountain tops according to weather. In this state of the study we are only in the starting point of getting to know the fauna of the research area and this way we also spared valuable time for preparing the materials instead of walking. -

Macrolepidoptera from the steppes of Dobrogea (south-eastern Romania) Levente Székely, Vlad Dincă & István Juhász Abstract. Based on material collected during 2007–2009, we report 225 species of macrolepidoptera from the steppes of Dobrogea (south-eastern Romania). Besides numerous rare species with particular ecological preferences, we report Tarachidia candefacta (Hübner, [1831]) (Noctuidae) and Rhodostrophia discopunctata Amsel, 1935 (Geometridae) for the first time in the Romanian entomofauna. Several taxa of high zoogeographical significance for the Romanian and European fauna are commented. The conservation status and interest of the steppe areas from Dobrogea is brought into discussion. Samenvatting. Macrolepidoptera van de Dobrogea steppen (Zuidoost-Roemenië) Gebaseerd op materiaal verzameld tussen 2007 tot 2009, melden we 225 soorten Macrolepidoptera uit de steppen van Dobrogea (Zuidoost-Roemenië). Naast talrijke zeldzame soorten met specifieke ecologische voorkeuren, rapporteren we voor het eerst het voorkomen van Tarachidia candefacta (Hübner, [1831]) (Noctuidae) en Rhodostrophia discopunctata Amsel, 1935 (Geometridae) in de Roemeense entomologische fauna. Verscheidene taxa met belangrijke zoögeografische betekenis voor de Roemeense en Europese fauna worden besproken. De behoudsstatus en betekenis van de steppegebieden in Dobrogea wordt ter discussie gebracht. Résumé. Macrolépidoptères des steppes de Dobrogea (Sud-Est de la Roumanie) Sur base du matériel recueilli entre 2007 et 2009, nous mentionnons 225 espèces de macrolépidoptères des steppes de la Dobroudja (Sud-Est de la Roumanie). En plus de nombreuses espèces rares avec des préférences écologiques particulières, nous rapportons pour la première fois la présence de Tarachidia candefacta (Hübner, [1831]) (Noctuidae) et de Rhodostrophia discopunctata Amsel, 1935 (Geometridae) dans l’entomofaune roumaine. Un commentaire est fait concernant plusieurs taxons d’une grande importance zoogéographique pour la faune roumaine et européenne. -

INTRODUCTION The Russian part of the West Siberian plain includes the main part of the Tyumenskaya oblast’ (without the mountain territories), the entire Kurganskaya 1 oblast', Omskaya oblast', Tomskaya oblast', Novosibirskaya oblast' and the main part of Altaiskii krai. The border between the Altai mountains and piedmont plain of the Altai, which is included in the West Siberian plain, is assumed to be the 500 m above sea level, thus, Krasnoshchekovo, Gornyak and Zmeinogorsk are located on the West Siberian plain. -

TROFIMOVA Abstract Noctuoidea fauna of the Western Kazakhstan was examined by authors from 2003 to 2012. As a result of this study the annotated list includes 200 species. The species Rhabinopteryx turanica (ERSCHOFF, 1874), Heptapotamia eustratii ALPHÉRAKY, 1882, Eugnorisma tamerlana (HAMPSON, 1903) and Margelana versicolor (STAUDINGER, 1888) are noted here as new for Europe. Guselderia lutea HACKER, KUHNA & GROSS, 1986 (nov. syn.) is established as a junior synonym of Heptapotamia eustratii ALPHÉRAKY, 1882. 573 species of Noctuoidea known at present from the Western Kazakhstan are discussed. Key words: Western Kazakhstan, Noctuoidea fauna. Zusammenfassung Die Noctuoidea Fauna von West-Kasachstan wurde von den Autoren in den Jahren 2003 bis 2012 erforscht. Als Ergebnis wird hier eine Liste mit 200 Arten vorgestellt. Rhabinopteryx turanica (ERSCHOFF, 1874), Heptapotamia eustratii ALPHÉRAKY, 1882, Eugnorisma tamerlana (HAMPSON, 1903) und Margelana versicolor (STAUDINGER, 1888) sind Erstnachweise für Europa.
