Recreational Fishing Community Grants Programme Round 4 Successful projects – Queensland

Reference Project title and description Applicant State Amount of Number Grant The 'Gatakers Landing Boat Ramp Facilities' project will replace the existing unsuitable, unsafe and inaccessible boat ramp facilities in Gatakers Bay, Queensland. Access to the existing jetty is R4052 currently prohibited due to the grade of the existing ramp and Bundaberg City Council QLD $100,000 lack of handrails. The funds will make the jetty accessible, provide future sustainability for the embankment and allow residents and visitors involvement in recreational fishing. R4054 The 'Noosa River Entrance Recreational Enhancement Noosa Council QLD $100,000 Project' will create a rocky reef fish habitat to encourage marine animals and plants, provide pedestrian and wheelchair access with sidings along the riverbank for recreational fishing and tourism purposes, educate recreational fishers and tourists on the values of the Noosa River, sustainable fishing practices and key water safety messages. The project will also install Fishing Line Recovery Bins to encourage recreational fishers to practise environmental stewardship of the area, stabilize the Noosa River bank and protect the Noosa Spit from further erosion and monitor the marine environment to gauge success of the artificial rock wall and created reef habitat. The 'CAPREEF: Community Monitoring of the Great Barrier Reef' project will improve community involvement and knowledge in management of the Capricorn part of the Great Barrier Reef ecosystem. CapReef will involve recreational CapReef Steering R4033 fishers and the broader community in monitoring and collecting QLD $99,475 information on the local effects of management changes on the Committee Great Barrier Reef ecosystem. Recreational fishing effort and catch per year will be estimated for the key population centres in the project area. The 'Jerona Township Recreational Fishing Enhancement Project (Stage 1)' project will widen and upgrade the current Jerona Citizens R4034 boat ramp as well as installing a new fishing pontoon at a QLD $99,106 major fishing access point on Barratta Creek in the Burdekin Association Incorporated Shire, Queensland. The 'Sandfly Creek River Trail Fishing Platform, Mackay R4075 QLD' project will construct an equal access fishing platform at Mackay City Council QLD $98,500 Pioneer River and Sandfly Creek at Mackay, Queensland. The 'Upgrade of Military Jetty at Golden Beach, Caloundra' R4115 project will improve the structural condition of Military Jetty in Caloundra City Council QLD $71,000 Caloundra, Queensland. The 'Norman River Bridge Lighting and New Facilities' project will convert an old road bridge (now a pedestrian R4001 bridge) into a recreational fishing platform over the Norman Carpentaria Shire Council QLD $64,200 River at Normanton, Queensland. The 'Development of fishing platforms for people with a disability' project will provide public access for recreational R4099 fishers of all ages and people with a disability to fish off the Redcliffe City Council QLD $61,272 groynes at two locations within Redcliffe, Brisbane, Queensland. The 'Enhancing Recreational Fishing at Passmore Reserve' project, near Clifton in Queensland will improve the fish, R4070 aquatic and riparian habitat and the day use facilities for Condamine Alliance QLD $60,624 recreational fishers and other visitors. The 'Oma Waterhole Infrastructure Development' project will R4057 construct a boat ramp at the Oma Water about 17 kilometres Isisford Shire Council QLD $46,000 from Isisford in Central Western Queensland. The 'Upgrade of facilities at Morris Creek Boat Landing for recreational fishers and their families' project will involve the construction of two fish filleting tables, the construction of two shelters for protection, especially for women and children, from the hot North Queensland sun, the establishment of a gravelled R4053 carpark and the erection of five security solar lights. Morris Burdekin Shire Council QLD $44,000 Creek boat landing is a very popular access point for boating and fishing activities in the Haughton River and associated estuaries, and off-shore fishing in Bowling Green Bay because of its all tide boat ramp. The 'Barramundi Holding Cage and Low Stress Transportation Techniques at Lake Monduran' project will construct a permanently anchored holding cage located Monduran Anglers & R4003 adjacent to the boat ramp in Lake Monduran in Queensland. In Stocking Association QLD $41,483 addition, two 35,000 litre rainwater tanks will be purchased to Incorporated (MASA) complete stage 3 of the Association’s Round 1 funded project. The 'Mount Isa Fish Stocking Group Hatchery Project Recirculation Systems' project will involve the installation of Mount Isa Fish Stocking R4103 three recirculation systems at the hatchery in Mount Isa, QLD $40,887 Queensland, to produce Sooty Grunter and grow out Gulf Group Inc. Strain Barramundi for stocking purposes. The 'Upgrade of Yarrabah Esplanade Boat Access Ramp' project will upgrade an existing boat access ramp used by Yarrabah Aboriginal Shire R4122 QLD $40,750 Yarrabah’s recreational fishing community to launch and Council retrieve their boats at Gribble Point, Yarrabah, Queensland. The 'Lake Macdonald Community Fish Hatchery and Education Centre Redevelopment Project' will redevelop the R4072 community fish hatchery to incorporate a community education Noosa Council QLD $40,092 and awareness facility at the Lake Macdonald Botanical Gardens at Noosa, Queensland. The 'Rosehill Boat Ramp Pontoon' project will provide a safe access platform and walkway to the shore for the loading and R4079 unloading of small craft used for recreational fishing. Rosehill Torres Shire Council QLD $25,180 Boat Ramp is the official boat ramp on Thursday Island, Queensland. The 'Accessible Recreational Fishing - MAKO' project will employ a part-time recreational fishing officer to increase the inclusion of people with disabilities and youth with mental R4114 health conditions into general community activities. The MADEC QLD $24,000 project will take place in Mackay, Queensland and surrounding areas. The 'Increasing fish passage along the Condamine River via a rock ramp fish way at Reilly's Weir, Qld' project will install a rock ramp fishway 32 km south west of Condamine, R4083 Lennie Brae Holdings QLD $16,000 Queensland and thereby improve native fish passage and habitat at Reilly’s Weir. The project will also reintroduce three large woody debris structures for aquatic habitat improvement. The 'Promote safe and sustainable recreational fishing practices on Kowanyama Aboriginal Lands' project will encourage sustainable fishing practices for recreational fishers within the Kowanyama Aboriginal Lands, Queensland, via the development of a brochure and posters outlining sustainable fishing practices and other local information with particular Kowanyama Aboriginal R4047 regard to Kowanyama. It will improve fisher’s safety through QLD $11,550 the design, construction and installation of crocodile warning Shire Council signs at key shore fishing and boat launching areas and will provide a clean, comfortable and environmentally stable camping area for recreational fishers at the Topsy Creek and Surprise Creek fishing camps through the rationalisation of roads, camping areas and boat launching sites. The 'Restock Barcoo River with Golden Perch' project will restock the Barcoo River in Queensland with 88,000 Native Lake Eyre variety Golden Perch (Yellow Belly). The fish will be R4056 purchased for the purpose of assisting maintenance of native Isisford Shire Council QLD $9,900 fish stocks in the river system until they can re-establish a natural breeding season at the end of the current drought. The 'Restocking the local Ward, Warrego and Langlo rivers' project is to replenish the three waterways leading to the Murray Darling River with Golden Perch and Murray cod Charleville Fishing & R4044 QLD $8,290 fingerlings. The three rivers, the Ward, Warrego and Langlo Restocking Club Inc. rivers, are all within the boundaries of the Murweh Shire in Queensland. The 'Wonga/Daintree Sustainable Fishing Education Program' project will develop a community family fishing club centred on the school that will promote sustainable fishing practices.
