Nea Meeting Minutes

NEA MEETING MINUTES APRIL 26, 2009 – 1PM VERONA ELEMENTARY

Present: Tim Quick, Chris Carper, Kevin Campbell, DJ and Staci Seamster, Tom Shumate, Rick Sutton, Jeff Monroe, Kevin Colvin, Jay Collins, Donna Sheets, Paul Bosserman, Mike Snead, and Chip Wease

The meeting was called to order by DJ Seamster, President.

Minutes: The minutes from the March 8, 2009 meeting were approved unanimously on a motion made by Chris Carper, seconded by Staci Seamster.

Financial Report: Donna Sheets provided the Treasurer’s Report - see attached.

League Fees: The 2009 fees were collected from Fishersville and New Hope. Crimora paid their remaining balance due of $50. Verona still owes $50.

Area Reports:

Barren Ridge – Nothing to report. Cassell – Nothing to report. Crimora – Nothing to report. Fishersville – Nothing to report. New Hope – The fence is up around the second field. They hope to have dugouts within the next 2 months. Verona – They do not have the concession stand open. Please make sure to let all coaches and parents know they need to bring drinks for the players.

All Star Coaches: The group votes on all star coaches. We will be dividing the 9 and 10 year olds into 2 all star teams. DJ will find out if there are any regulations we must follow when we divide these age groups. Area representatives need to find interest in all star coaches and report at the next meeting. The following all star coaches were nominated and approved.

8 year olds - Jeff Monroe 9 year olds – tabled 10 year olds – Chip Wease 11 year olds – Kevin Colvin 12 year olds – Tim Quick

Tournament Books: Regular season scorebooks must be turned into DJ. NEW BUSINESS:

Tball All Stars: They are considering a Tball All Stars team this year. The group discussed the pros and cons to doing this. Mike Snead said he would be interested in coaching this All Star team.

Umpires Test Meeting: DJ Seamster stated that the Umpires Test Meeting held at Wilson High School was very good and recommended everyone attend next year if you’re able. Tom Shumate organized and got the information on the meeting out. The fee was only $35 which included the day long seminar, your meal and fee for taking the umpire test. All the commissioners were there and the seminar was very informative.

2009 Rules: Several discussions were held regarding the 2009 rules. Clarifications were made and recommendations for changes for next year were made. As DJ Seamster recommended at the beginning of this season, it would probably be beneficial for representatives from each league to review and revise the 2010 NEA rules.

All Star Coaching Staff: Chris Carper recommended that All Star coaches be made up of coaches from different areas, instead of all the coaches being from the same area. He feels it gives the opportunity for a different point of view to be represented. A brief discussion with pros and cons was held regarding this.

Scores: DJ Seamster reminded everyone that games scores need to be turned in and posted on the NEA website. If you need assistance you can call or email DJ or Staci Seamster, just get your scores in..

Umpires vs. Coaches: DJ Seamster asked that all areas remind coaches of the importance of not arguing balls/strikes and judgment calls with Umpires. He stated he realizes coaches get caught up in the game, but remind them to “check yourself at the gate.” If an Umpire throws a coach out of a game, DJ will back the Umpire up regardless. Do not call them out. Walk out of the games with respect.

Adjournment: With no further business, the meeting was adjourned by General Consensus. The next meeting will be held in April, date to be announced..
