WI Child Support Update  Immediate Past President Claire Wojtak gave the group an update on changes the Wisconsin Child Support Agency has made in how they calculate child support. o If you pay your employees on a semi-monthly or bi-weekly basis the agency is taking the monthly amount and dividing it by 2. o If you pay your employees on a weekly basis the agency is taking the monthly amount and dividing it by 4. o If there are 3 bi-weekly pay periods in a month or 5 weekly pay periods the agency is telling employees that their company should not be withholding child support on the extra pay period. o Briggs & Stratton is just starting to get child support orders in with this new calculation. This applies to existing orders as well as new orders. o Briggs & Stratton had an employee who talked to WISCTF and was told that if the company withheld child support on the additional pay period the money would go to the custodial parent but it would not put the employee in a negative arrears. If the employee had a week when they were not paid they would go into arrears and have penalties accessed regardless of the additional child support payments they had made. o Claire has contacted the Federal Office of Child Support Enforcement regarding this change in Wisconsin. o Claire will update the group when she has more information.
