Dear AVID Parents,

Welcome! As you know, Santiago AVID is committed to high standards of student enrichment, one of those being exposure to college campuses. If a student remains in the program from grades 9 through 12, they will have the opportunity to participate in at least 20 college visits. This is an extremely valuable component of our program, provides exceptional academic motivation, and instrumental in the process of selecting a college during their senior year. In addition, each year our program awards over $4000 in scholarship money to our graduating seniors. Below is an outline of costs so that you understand why your support in our fundraising efforts is critical:

9 th Grade: UCLA and USC, and San Diego College Visits Approximate Cost: $8,000

10 th Grade: 10th grade College Road trip: 2 overnight trips to visit colleges in the Central Coast and Bay Area Approximate Cost: $25,000.

11 th Grade: Junior College Road Trip: 1 overnight trip to visit colleges in the OC and LA Area Approximate Cost: $15,000.

12 th Grade: Graduation Sashes, Medallions, Senior Banquet, Senior Night, AVID Scholarships, and local College Visits Approximate Cost: $15,000. TOTAL Approximate Annual Cost: $63,000

Our program offers a wealth of experiences for our students. We are very proud of this and we believe this is one of the reasons why so many of our AVID kids excel at a high level. We need your help! It takes the collective effort of all students in the program working together in the form of fundraising in order to provide these events. Fundraising for these events is voluntary so if you choose to assist, attached to this letter are a few options for you to decide on how you will support our efforts. In order to continue college visits, it is imperative that we continue to have your support. Once again thank you and we look forward to working with you this year!

______Option 1: My son/daughter will participate in the college visits and he/she will participate in fundraising activities (Candy Sales, sponsorships, etc.) as designated throughout the school year. I understand that while in possession of fundraising material (candy, etc.) we are responsible for the cost of material if something is lost or stolen. ______Option 2: I would like to contribute toward the annual cost towards participation in the trip as outlined below:

 Freshman: due 10/14/2016

 Sophomores: due TBA

 Juniors: due TBA

 Seniors: due 11/14/2016 ______Option 3: My son/daughter will not participate in college visits.

I agree to participate as outlined above. I understand that fieldtrips and extracurricular activities in AVID are optional and not mandatory. My participation in these trips and meeting their cost is completely voluntary. I understand that all program contributions are non-refundable.
