Persuasive Writing: What S It All About?

Persuasive Writing: what’s it all about?

In a persuasive essay, the writer takes a position FOR or AGAINST an issue and writes to convince the reader to believe or do something. So in order to convince the reader you need more than opinion; you need facts or examples to ‘back up’ your opinion. So be sure to use your research! There are many techniques which you can use to persuade your reader that your opinion is correct.

Persuasive Essay Format

In the same way a critical essay has a particular format, so does a persuasive piece of writing. It has an introduction, a body, and a conclusion

Introduction

Make a bold first sentence.

Try a more unusual approach. So, if I was arguing someone like Jordan should be put out of our misery, I might start my argument like this...

The countless lurid pictures of the oversized comedy breasts. The break-ups and the breakdowns. The rather sad and pathetic need for acceptance which is overshadowed by a demonic greed for the lion's share of the limelight. This is the nation's favourite 'bad girl'-Jordan. What I don't understand is why people cannot see that Price is merely bad. Bad for the soul, bad for the image of all that is female and heaven forbid, 'girly', bad as someone who is adored by countless young 'Katie' clones.

Techniques:

So, here, I have used repetition to show how over-exposed I think she is.

Here is the 'Rule of Three'-repeating the word 'bad' truly emphases how terrible I feel she is.

I use incomplete sentences that are mere statements. It makes the reader wonder who I am writing about...and gives a more individual feel to the piece.

Emotive language- I don't 'sit on the fence' here- it's clear from the word choice highlighted that I do not like Price.

Body:

First argument or reason to support your position: Remember to use P.E.E.

Second argument or reason to support your position: Remember to use P.E.E.

Third argument or reason to support your position: Remember to use P.E.E.

Fourth Argument or reason to support your position: Remember to use P.E.E.

Opposing Viewpoint: or rebuttal. You have to consider the opposite viewpoint. So, going back to Katie then...

Some would argue that Price has many sound qualities. There's the inescapable fact that she has shown a keen business acumen, that she has managed to create a business empire which sells everything a teenage girl would want. Price donates regularly to charity and she also organises and takes part in fund raisers. And then there are her children. It is clear that she sees herself as a devoted mother, always taking care of Harvey, her eldest child who has severe difficulties.

Yet when you stop to think about all of this, and I urge you do so, such angelic activities are not so. The businesses merely serve to promote items with Price's plastic mug all over them, and are nothing more than a way of brainwashing the young fans. To give to charity, well that's a nice thing to do, but it does mean it's harder to have a go at someone who is being compassionate. This does not, however, change that fact that the money going to some orphan charity comes from a woman, a mother, who takes her clothes off to pose for pictures that are to be pawed at by many sweaty hands. The children? Well, first and foremost, the names are surely a crime, Junior Savva Andreas Andre and Princess Tiaamii Crystal Esther Andre? Such titles will bring about a wave of teenage angst one would have thought. And as for Harvey, there was much made of Price's alleged partying whilst heavily pregnant with her first child. An underground cult magazine published pictures of the star taking cocaine whilst expecting.

Conclusion

Summary of main reasons or points. You may also reinstate your opinion.

Katie Price, the next generation 'Barbie' doll or merely 'Barbie 's' ugly sister? I feel that Price is a form of bad medicine for what plagues our young people. She is brash, demanding and false. The celebrity is consumed with an unhealthily desire to be loved and goes about it in a manner which is crude, demoralising and damaging. Price has often stated that she tries to help other young girls build on their lack of self esteem and it is clear that it just isn't so. Indeed, Jordan is more poison than she is a solution to the crippling lack of self confidence the teenage nation suffers from.
