House of Burgesses 8.3 Explain the founding of the Plymouth Colony, including the Separatists, William Bradford, Mayflower, Mayflower Compact, and Squanto. (C, G, H, P) 8.4 Analyze the reasons for the settlement of the Massachusetts Bay Colony and the events and the key figures of the colonies, including: (C, E, G, H, P ) ! Non-Separatists/Puritans ! Relationship with Indians SPI(s) to be taught: (Write the entire SPI)  Daily practice activity for citing text based evidence in conversation and/or writing:  Bellringer – Practicing research skills to find interesting and/or important that took place on “this day” in history  Group discussions – Think- Pair – Share activity will help the students work together to determine the “right” answer I Can Statements : Student Agenda:  I can properly decipher the language from early  Posted daily but NOT included in Lesson Plan historical documents.  I can take proper notes.  I can more effectively research.  I can evaluate the impact that John Smith had on the success of Jamestown.  I can cite the early settlers “authority” for occupying the James river area. Assessment Strategies (for Stage 1 teachers ONLY): Essential (Exit) question [EQ].The EQ will be a question that will help the students focus on a particular skill or idea from that day/lesson. Daily “Recap” in the middle of each lesson. Think-Pair-Share activities will also take place that will allow assessment.

Instructional Materials (for Stage 1 teachers ONLY): All notes, powerpoints, primary sources, and activities are derived from the common core state standards.
