Outstanding Student Of The Year Award

ELLEN PINTO AWARD

The Ellen Pinto Outstanding Student of the Year Award is named after Mrs. Ellen Pinto to honor her many years' service to Tacoma Community College as a trustee and former

Board Chairperson. A trustee from 1974-1983, Mrs. Pinto long supported recognition of outstanding student achievements. The award serves to showcase the highest academic achievement, outstanding rapport with others, and service to the college and community.

 Member - Tacoma Community College Board of Trustees 1974-83 and Chairman of the Board, 1976-79

 Member of TCC Foundation

 Executive Committee member of Trustees Association of Community Colleges and served as President 1979-80

 President of League of Women Voters, and President of the Advisor Board on Council of Aging

 She personified all of the qualities that the award represents, especially the value of service to others. Ellen Pinto OUTSTANDING STUDENT OF THE YEAR AWARD

I. CRITERIA FOR SELECTION

The student should demonstrate outstanding qualities in the following areas:

A. Academics (A recommended minimum of 3.5 GPA)

B. Relation with other students, faculty and staff

C. Service to the College

D. Service to the community

II. PROCEDURE FOR SELECTION

E. The Student Awards Committee shall be appointed and will consist of:

1. Four Faculty representatives (One from Student Services)

2. Instructional Administrator

3. Student Representative

4. Student Life Manager

F. Open nominations shall be taken from all faculty and staff.

G. The Awards Committee will screen candidates and recommend three (3) finalists to the Tacoma Community College Board of Trustees.

H. Final selection shall be made by the Board of Trustees.

I. The three finalists will be awarded certificates at the annual Student Awards Ceremony.

J. After selection by the Board of Trustees, the Director of Student Life and the Student Life Manager shall be provided the name of the recipients of the Outstanding Student Award. Ellen Pinto OUTSTANDING STUDENT OF THE YEAR Nomination Form
