<p> ELLEN PINTO AWARD</p><p>The Ellen Pinto Outstanding Student of the Year Award is named after Mrs. Ellen Pinto to honor her many years' service to Tacoma Community College as a trustee and former </p><p>Board Chairperson. A trustee from 1974-1983, Mrs. Pinto long supported recognition of outstanding student achievements. The award serves to showcase the highest academic achievement, outstanding rapport with others, and service to the college and community.</p><p>ELLEN PINTO</p><p> Member - Tacoma Community College Board of Trustees 1974-83 and Chairman of the Board, 1976-79</p><p> Member of TCC Foundation</p><p> Executive Committee member of Trustees Association of Community Colleges and served as President 1979-80</p><p> President of League of Women Voters, and President of the Advisor Board on Council of Aging</p><p> She personified all of the qualities that the award represents, especially the value of service to others. Ellen Pinto OUTSTANDING STUDENT OF THE YEAR AWARD</p><p>I. CRITERIA FOR SELECTION</p><p>The student should demonstrate outstanding qualities in the following areas:</p><p>A. Academics (A recommended minimum of 3.5 GPA)</p><p>B. Relation with other students, faculty and staff</p><p>C. Service to the College</p><p>D. Service to the community</p><p>II. PROCEDURE FOR SELECTION</p><p>E. The Student Awards Committee shall be appointed and will consist of:</p><p>1. Four Faculty representatives (One from Student Services)</p><p>2. Instructional Administrator</p><p>3. Student Representative</p><p>4. Student Life Manager</p><p>F. Open nominations shall be taken from all faculty and staff.</p><p>G. The Awards Committee will screen candidates and recommend three (3) finalists to the Tacoma Community College Board of Trustees.</p><p>H. Final selection shall be made by the Board of Trustees.</p><p>I. The three finalists will be awarded certificates at the annual Student Awards Ceremony.</p><p>J. After selection by the Board of Trustees, the Director of Student Life and the Student Life Manager shall be provided the name of the recipients of the Outstanding Student Award.
