Precalculus/Honors Precalculus MRS. ADKINS 2013-2014

Welcome to Precalculus!

I look forward to being your teacher and getting to know each of you. I am willing to help you in any way that I can to ensure your success in Precalculus. It is your responsibility to let me know if you are struggling and need some extra help. I am available 2 days a week after school until 4:30, if you would like to stay; I have a sign up sheet on my desk. Typically I stay on Wednesday and Friday afternoons, however these days may vary due to mandatory meetings etc. If you are unable to stay after school, we can try to work out a different plan on an individual basis. After school tutoring will begin in approximately 2 weeks, I will pass on that information when the days are set.

Food and drink are not allowed in the classroom with the exception of water. Cell phones are to be turned off and put away. (no texting during class) Please show respect for your peers, your teacher, and yourself.

NINE WEEKS GRADE

Assignments: 5-15 points each based on effort and the following To receive full credit each assignment will need to include: Date Bellringer (unless you were absent ) All work shown

Open Response: 25 points each (usually one each nine weeks)

Bell Ringers: to be included on assignments

Mini Quizzes: 20 - 30 points each

Quizzes: 50 points each

Tests: 100 points each Students will have the opportunity to rework problems, like the ones missed on the test, for half credit.

Writing Assignments: 5 points/ one per chapter / points applied as bonus on chapter tests

9 week average: 90 % Assessments ( Tests, Quizzes, Open Responses ) 10% Assignments

Grading Scale: A: 92 – 100 B: 84 – 91 C: 76-83 D: 68 – 75 PROCEDURES

1. Bring paper, pen / pencil, calculator, textbook and hall passes to class everyday. 2. Raise your hand and be recognized before asking a question. 3. Remain in your seat during instruction. 4. For the benefit of all, talking during instruction is limited to procedure # 2. 5. Check your answers daily. 6. Listen to all announcements quietly 7. Please refrain from using cell phones during class.

HALL PASSES

Each student will receive 4 hall passes each nine weeks. You must use one of your hall passes to leave the room unless called by your counselor, principal or another teacher. Any unused hall passes may be turned in at the end of the nine weeks for bonus points.

IF YOU ARE ABSENT

1. Place your note on my desk when you return. 2. Refer to the assignment board and/or my online classroom for missed assignment(s). The assignment board is located in the front right corner of the classroom. 3. Place assignment from day prior to absence in the make-up tray. 4. Place make-up work in the make-up work tray within twice the number of days missed.

Calculator apps on cell phones are not allowed to be used during quizzes and tests.

If obtaining a calculator is going to be a hardship, see me before or after class by August 31st.
